~ More Screening on the Cantaloupe Cage ~
~ Another Try at Baking Rye Bread ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ New Screening on the Cage but needed More ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Sunday morning... 8 a.m. Sunny but still nice and cool out back, started putting more finer Screening on the Cantaloupe Cage
But I ran out quickly, only had about 1/3 of what I needed, so that meant a trip to Lowes for more
And after tilting up the Cage to start I saw four more Melons that just might make it, so it's worth a try

~ Can we keep the Varmints off these nice Melons? ~

And I headed up to the Price Chopper on the way to Lowes, stopped in to get my Lottos, no go, only won $5
Walked all the way to the back of Lowes for my Screening, they only had 3 feet wide and 1/2 inch Mesh
I wanted 4 feet wide and 1 inch Mesh... no go again, they had it online but not in the Store

So I headed out back again after Noon, had some Chicken Wire, see if that would work... Got up the Stairs
Took a look out there... Sunny and just too hot at 85 Degrees for any more of that, try later in the Day
So what else for the Afternoon, another try at Rye Bread?, thought some would go good with my German Cooking
I mixed up a batch on Saturday and something I did went wrong, halfway through baking, the Loaf was all crumbly
So I dumped that try, thought I would try again, I think I know what I did wrong, mixed it up again and set the Machine going

I saw a few (?) more Tomatoes out back when I checked first thing, I headed back out about 2 p.m. to pick them
I am getting a tableful now, have to decide what to do with them, have a couple Ideas... One 'REAL' Tomato Ketchup

~ Better Boys Harvest for Sunday ~

And the other? I am getting quite a few Poblamo Peppers of some size now, what to do with them?
Most recipes I see for Poblanos call for roasting and peeling the Skins, I don't want to bother with that
I did find a Stuffed Poblano Recipe that didn't call for peeling but I was thinking of some Poblano Pwpper Salsa
For that, I'll just chop them up in the Food Processor and make up a Recipe of what I have here on hand

On through the long Afternoon and about 5 p.m. I headed out back to work on that Cage Netting
I had just about enough to cover the Sides of the Cage about 3/4 of the way up, maybe that will be enough
But a Squirrel could get on top but wonder if it would drop down inside to mess with my Meloms? Well give it a try

Back inside to see my Bread was finished, dumped it out on the Rack to cool, later tried some with Dinner
It will pass the Test quite well, I wrapped the rest, will Slice and store the rest on Monday

~ Latest Loaf of Home Baked Rye Bread ~

But... after I run out back and finish that netting Job on the Cantaloupe Cage

~ A Cantaloupe Catastrophy ~
~ Picked Cucumbers ~ Made Dill Pickles ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Cantaloupes on Thursday ~ And on Saturday ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And so Saturday Morning, did my runaround for loser Lottos and then decided to check the Crops out back
I didn't make it back there on that dreary rainy Day Friday, took a bag, wasn't expecting much to pick
Took a look along the front of the beds, saw several Tomatoes had colored up, picked those, and a few little Golden ones
On to take a peek at my Cantaloupes... OH MY GAWD! What happened to my biggest Melon! Something ate a hole in it
And had nibbles on the greener one next to it, totally ruined that Melon, I am betting it was a Squirrel
The Mesh on that Cage is fine for Deer and a few other Rodents but I think a squirrel might wiggle through
This late in the Season I don't know if it is worth it to put some of that finer Mesh on there I have

~ Tomatoes and Cucumbers Harvest for Saturday ~

So I picked all the colored Tomatoes and then several nice looking Cucumbers, Two had tried to poke through the Screening and got stuck<
Then I had a Table top full of Tomatoes in various stages of ripeness and all those Cucumbers... Looks like Pickles to me
I have plenty of Bread and Butter Pickles, what other kind can I make, looked up Refrigerator Dills online
Found a Recipe I had all the ingredients for and looked easy enough so I started in, mixed the Brine and set it to simmer
This recipe just said to put the Spices and Seeds in the Jar, put in the Cucumbers and pour in the Hot Brine
So I sliced up just enough to fill three Pint Jars, poured in the hot Brine, on with the Lids and PRESTO! Dill Pickles!

~ Three Pints of El Pato's Dill Pickles ~

Again that was it for the Day, back to the TV for my Margarita, then I made a Salad of just One of my own Tomatoes
Just a little Salt and home grown Basil... so tasty! Then later some warm-ups for Dinner and that was the end for Saturday
Now, a cool Sunday morning, just might run out back and add some netting to my Cantaloupe Cage

~ And then the Rains Came ~
~ Made Chili and Cheese Enchiladas ~

~ Another Rainy Morning ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Friday Morning, another Weekend looming and a brief T-Storm and light Rain to start the Day
I watered good out back on Thursday Morning, good thing as this light Rain Friday wasn't of much help
I trotted up to the Minit Mart for a couple Lottos, then back by the Price Chopper for a couple more
Only won $15 from those four so I headed back to trade that in at the Fast Stop and won another $15
Sure not enough to write home about but you win some and lose most... at least that's been my luck

And it brightened up some around 10 a.m. but looked like an uneventful Day ahead, just no plans at all
I did get another Windows 10 Insider update but that's becoming a non-news thing, coming about once a week
They usually start after downloading and saying 'Restart Required', If I don't do that then it Restarts in 'off hours'
That happens when I am not using the Computer, only way to know it happened is it starts the install when I fire up again

And then the Clouds and raindrops came creeping back in, a really dreary looking Day out there
So what to do in that dreary Afternoon? Nothing outside for sure, can we find something special to Cook?
Well now, thinking of those Corn Tortillas in the Fridge just sitting there, how about some Enchiladas?

I had some other leftovers to use up that could be used for that... So some creative Cooking ensued
I usually make Enchiladas with Cheese and Onion Filling, this time how about Chili filling with Cheese on top?
Started on making some 'Use it up Chili'... I had some Frozen Roast Beef in the Freezer, half a Polish Sausage
Half of a Chicken and Bacon Burger... I thawed it out, then minced it all up as fine as I could with a sharp Knife
Then into the Pot with a couple of my own Jalapenos, Chopped Onions, Olive Oil, some of my Own Salsa Picante
Chopped up one of my ripe Tomatoes, then let that simmer a bit then added Cilantro, Cumin, and Chili Powder

Had a Taste Test and decided it need some more Tomato flavor, some Ketchup maybe?... But all out of that
Well I needed some Enchilada Sauce anyway so off the Price Chopper... Got Enchilada Sauce, Ketchup and Mexican style Cheese
Back at el Ranchito, added some Ketchup, yeah that did it... Time to mix a Margarita and catch up on the Non-News

Sitting there in front of the TV, decided to check out my Laptop on the TV Sceen, have it connected with an HDMI Cable
Sometimes it is handy to show Pat some things on my Computer that way, decided to try out Yahoo Messenger
I saw Sigi was online so I gave him a call and the Message showed up big and bright on the Screen
A comfy way to Message, sitting there on my Sofa with a Wireless Keyboard my Lap, talking to someone in Germany

~ Talking to Sigi on Yahoo Messenger ~

Then it was time to assemble the Enchiladas, there is not a non messy way to do that, first softened the Tortillas in Oil
When I had that stack done, took one at a time, dipped in Enchilada Sauce, then filled with Chili, wrapped and into the Pyrex
It took Eleven Enchiladas to fill the Dish, used up all the Chili, then topped with shredded Cheddar/Jack Cheese
Into the Oven and then back to the TV until the Timer beeped, back out to take the Dinner out of the Oven to cool a bit

~ Some 'Throw it all In' Chili ~ Latest Try at Enchiladas ~

Then to finish off the Day with a sample of my latest attempt at Enchiladas, that Chili was really different and really Tasty
The Tortillas were just a bit dry from too long in the Oven but would pass the average Taste Test... a bit more Cheese might help
I would say better than my last two tries but not my best so far... am I losing my Mexican Chef Touch! Oh No!

¿Y entonces Adiós al Viernes y a un mejor el Sábado? ...Well I can always hope so!

~ Watered out Back First Thing ~
~ Then some more nice Lotto Wins ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Another nice $50 Lotto Win Thursday ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Hooked up the Hose and headed out back at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, the back Gardens looking awful Thirsty on Wednesday
Especially the Cantaloupe Plants, laying over and looking all wilty... But looked all pepped up on Thursday
I started with the Cucumber Bed and worked across... Soaking the Beds really well, more than usual for the Hot Day ahead

~ Cantaloupes Looking Better Thursday Morning ~

Then I got a couple Photos of the Cantaloupes... Just two looking like they would produce a Melon
There were lots of Blossoms earlier and several Melons started but didn't develop, Melons can be touchy

~ The Two Biggest Ones ~ Another New One on the Way ~

Then I did the Harvest for the Day, a little better than the latest usual harvest, a few Cukes, a couple Tomatoes
Four Cucumbers, might be enough for another Pint of Pickles... Several more Tomatoes to Redden up and some Peppers for whatever

~ More Cucumbers ~ More Tomatoes ~ More Peppers ~

Then back inside around 7:30 a.m. to finish out my Morning Routine and set out for my Fortune
And as usual I needed several more Items from the Price Chopper, first chose my Lottos carefully
I don't usually repeat a Win from one Machine for a certain Ticket, I switch around... this time for the Better
Got my Lettuce, Triple Sec, Marischino Cherries, and Chocolates and headed back to scratch, with success
I spent $20 on Lottos, then scratched off a $5, $5, $20 and another $50! Nice going, $60 profit

And on again into the Afternoon, Oh my GOSH! 97 Degrees at 1 p.m. Poor plants sweltering out there again
But nice and cool inside, the best place to be on a Day like that... What is there to do next?
Where there were those Cucumbers, looked like enough to make another Pint, so on with the Pickle routine
I already had enough Pickle Brine left over for another Jar so I sliced up the Cucumbers, added salt and Ice
Into the Big Bowl with a Plate on top, a Gallon of Water in a Picher on top for weight and wait a couple hours
Then drained the Cukes, hotted up the Brine to boiling, then in with the Cuke slices, just to bring to the boiling Point
Then off with the heat and into the Jar and the last slice just topped it off... exactly!

~ Just enough Cucumbers to fill the Jar ~ One more Pint of El Pato's Pickles ~

That was all for the Day... Just anther Good Dinner, more wilted Lettuce and BBQ and off to Bed
Another pretty nice Day overall, even if just a bit too hot!

~ Back to the Heat ~
~ Back to the Lottos ~

~ A Rerun of my Garden Visit ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another slow start on the Day Wednesday... Chatted with Sigi and Swamp, did my Morning Computer stuff
Finished off Pat's Coco Chip Cookies, pretty Tasty bites, then off to the Day, already hot at 9 a.m.
I got a Phillips 66 Promotion Card to scratch, scratched off $5... Good for anything in the Store
I headed out to the Price Chopper for Lottos and Vino Tinto, only won $5, back to trade and buy more, won $15
The I went to the Minit Mart to try out ny Gas Card, got $5 worth of free Gas, doing OK there
Then went inside to trade my $15 Win for $15 more lottos and won back $20, that was enough for the Day

It was 91, bright Sun and high Humidity at Noon, was thinking I better Water out front later
And thought I would brave the heat and go out to check the Crops out back again
Hot? Did I say Hot? It said 92 Degrees when I got back in but it felt like 100 plus to me out there
And so, the Crops? Everything looked Wilty, I would have to get out there later and give everything some Water
Expecially the Cantaloupes, the Plants were mostly all laying over, could see the meager Crop in there
I thought there were more Melons earlier but you couldn't see them, only the biggest and doesn't look like much now
So there is one large nice looking one, a smaller one next it and a couple more I don't think will go anywhere

The the Tomatoes, might be Four or Five ready tomorrow, and maybe Three more Cucumbers
The Green Onions I planted from nubbins didn't look like they were going anywhere fast lately so I decided to pull them
There should be enough there to make a serving of 'Wilted Lettuce' with them, anyway, they were 'Free'

~ The Green Onion Harvest from the Nubbins ~

Afternoon, some TV Time, a cooling Cocktail and then out in the waning afternoon to water everything out front
The plants did need some water but seemed to be holding up rather well considering the Heat
The stuff around back needed watering more but I thought that could wait until Thursday morning early in the Cool

And then back in to finish out the Day, some Dinner to go with those harvested Green Onions
So I still had some of the last BBQ Ribs, that big slab sure lasted a long while, put them in the Oven to hot up nicely
I had some Mashed Taters to warm up too, that would go good... On to Dinner Time... Mixed up the Dressing for the Lettuce
Time to eat, put the Ribs and Mashed Potatoes into the MicroWave, set the Dressing on to boil
When the entree plate good and Hot, poured the hot Dressing over the Lettuce and Green Onions and set about my Feast
And everything just worked fine together, Poek Tasty, Mased Pitatoes creamy and smooth, Lettuce and Onions fresh and tangy
What a dandy Dish to set before the King... Well I ain't King but I am head man around here... and I eat good
Now what for Thursday... Just can't wait for another Thrilling Day!

~ A Nothing Much except Lotto Day ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Another nice One but still NOT Big Enough ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And Tuesday was a nice enough Day but back to the Heat, didn't care much for that... looks like 91 for Wednesday
Then more 90s on Thursday and then back down to the 80s for about a Week, 80s just don't feel as bad as 90s
And then it was just running around chasing Lottos most of the Day until Afternoon, hit my three favorite places
I would win one at one place then run off to another to trade for more, nicest one was another $40 Win, Second of the Month
I started off with $105 of Wins in my Pocket, then won a $5, $5, $5, $15, $25, $40... A nice sounding total of $95
But after scratching all those Tickets and running all over this end of Town, that's a loss of $5 for the Day...

Didn't get out back at all to check the Gardens, the Morers came early and I wasn't expecting anything new to be ready yet
So the rest of the Afternoon was all inside stuff and no Cooking Projects and really kind of boring
I did have an idea for Dinner, I had one of those Lotto Prize Bratwust left, and a ton of that German style Red Cabbage
So I thawed out and grilled the Sausage, heated up the Red Cabbage, some fried Taters with Onions and Bacon
With a hunk of buttered Corn Bread, a super way to end up the day... But imagine... no new Garden Photos!

So a nothing much Day and now off to see if this one will be any better... CHARGE!

~ Mexibell Peppers Monday Morning ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another nice Day for Monday? 73 Degrees at 9 a.m. and saying a top of 81.. I can handle that nicely
First a catch up peek at the new Mexibell Seedlings, pulled the extras out of one Pod, both looking good
Planted Six seeds, so far Three popped up in one Pod, only one in the other, only need one in each pod

So out and out back to check the Gardens, didn't check out back on Sunday, well a few things to pick
I found Three Tomatoes about ready and Two Cucumbers for Vinaigrette and one Nubbin, it will make a couple slices

~ Bumper Harvest for Monday ~

The Cucumbers in the Cucumber Bed seem to be slowing down now and the ones in the Pepper Bed haven't done much yet
Not that it doesn't look like they are not trying, Vines reaching the top and now climbing over to the Tomato Trellis

~ Cuke Vine Finding another Place to Climb ~

Well I did pretty well on Lottos on this last Weekend, $150 on Saturday and $50 on Sunday, not all profit of course
Headed off at 10 a.m. down the Hill to the Fast Stop, hadn't been there for a while
Bought $20 worth of Lottos and won $20 back... Even up... Well I needed some Gas so I went back to the Minit Mart
Got my Gas there and then inside for some more Lottos... Won a $5 Ticket there... Then headed back to the Price Chopper
Traded in my $5 Winner, bought $20 more and hit another nice $50 Win... $75.00 for the Day!

~ Nice Way to Start off a Rainy Sunday ~

Back then and wondering what to do the rest of the Afternoon... Got a phone Call, 'Are you receiving visitors today'?
So I says 'Depends on who it is'... 'Well me'.. So I says 'Come on ahead'... Pat, my neighbor from the Mansion up on the Hill
And she showed up around 2 p.m. bringing me Chocolate Chip Cookies, on to a Pleasant Afternoon chat then
We always have plenty to talk about and had the TV going in the background to bring up new subjects
She sipped a 'Corona Extras' Cervesa and I sipped my Margarita, chat finally ran down close to 6 p.m.
I packed up a Sampler for her of Tomato, Cucumber, Frozen Enchilada and a Pint of B&B Pickles
She headed out walking up that Hill and my attention turned to 'What's for Dinner?'

And that turned out to be a fresh sliced Cucumber in Italian Dressing, then a Sandwich of that Mexican Pork Shoulder
Sliced off a Bun sized hunk, added Salsa on top, quite a tasty weay to use up some of my Carne de Cerdo Picante

That wound up another better than average Day, three lucky Days in a row, won $150 Sunday, $50 Saturday and $75 on Monday
Will today be the end of this lucky Roll or will I possibly get another good one? ...Off we go to find out

~ Made my Mexican Specialty Dish ~

~ Mexibell Peppers Saturday and Sunday Morning ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Sunday Morning... 69 Degrees at 7 a.m. and saying a top of 76 for the Day... Hey... back to Springtime!
And it turned out to be another busy day Saturday, but not doing all that much of anything, just simple pleasures
Took a peek first thing at those new Mexibell Seedlings, doing OK, will need to pinch off that Second one there

And I have a small Fortune in my Pocket from Saturday's Lotto Winnings, where to go to add to it?
I'm thinking the 'Minit Mart', didn't win anything there for a couple Days, I like to switch around places
And I did OK at the Minit Mart, won a $5 and a nice $40 Scratch

~ Nice Way to Start off a Rainy Sunday ~

And then I started of thinking what's for Dinner early, not that I don't already have a stuffed Fridge and Freezer
But I love to Cook, one of my favorite Hobbies and I cant eat enough to keep up with the Feasts I prepare
Anyway, I was talking online about my own Prize Dish I invented and thought I would give that a try, needed Pork Steak
Off to the Price Chopper for a few things and the Pork Steak didn't look like such a good deal
But they had a nice looking Pork Shoulder at a pretty nice Price, that looked like it would do it
I will have to slice it though and change the Name, instead of 'Filette de Cerdo con Salsa Picante'
I will have to call it 'Paletilla de Cerdo con Salsa Picante', but actually it will be the same thing

~ Pork Shoulder from the Price Chopper ~

And out to la Cocina around Noon Forty-Five to start on the Specialty of the House, 'Carne de Cerdo'
Sliced up the Pork Shoulder, into the Pyrex Dish with Garlic Salt and Black Pepper and into the Oven
Thirty Minutes later... BEEP! Time to take it out and flip over the Slices, Back in for 45 Minutes
BEEP! Out again to add some Onions, Diced Tomatoes and my own Salsa Picante, back in the Oven
Twenty Minutes later a check on the Progress, tilted up the Dish to use a Baster to spread the Sauce around
And that looked good to me, Covered with Foil to rest until Dinner Time

~ Pork Shoulder Ready for the Oven ~ Ahora... Carne de Cerdo Picante! ~

That pretty well finished up the big Project for the day except for baking up the Cornbread
So I mixed that up, into the Oven and back to the TV with a glass of Vino Tinto... Time creeped toward Dinner time
Then a big hunk of that Cerdo Picante and Cornbread... back to the TV for the Feast, and some good chompins
Good stuff but different than my Usual, comes out a little different every time, really have no Recipe
But it's always good, sometimes better and this sample will pass the taste Test for sure and lots left

So on to the New Day and still looking for the BIG ONE!

~ Ever Onward and Upward! ~

~ Harvest Saturday Morning ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

71 Degrees at 8 a.m. Saturday Morning, headed out to check the Crops, most everything looking OK
A few more dinky Cucumbers, one Better Boy Tomato getting some Color, and picked the little Gold Cherries
The Cucumbers lately have been small and odd looking, what do they need? More Water and Miracle-Gro?
The Better Boys Tomatoes seem to be taking a rest, now more nice ones coming on, picked a few things and headed back

Back inside a peek at the Aerogardens, in Garden 5... is that a spot of Green? Planted Mexibells in there July 26
I've been checking that for Germination, all I have seen until Saturday is some Mold on the top of the Grow Pods
Well, they say that doesn't hurt anything and now I see three Seedlings popping up, took longer than the first Mexibells

~ Been Waiting 15 Days to see This ~

It says 'Romain' on the Pod Labels but those are Pods I had used and then cleaned out to reuse
Now I'll have to watch and remove any more than one Plant that Pops up, only one plant per Pod ya know

Was cloudy and cool to start, the Sun came out strong at 9 a.m. and I hooked up the Hose and my Miracle-Gro Sprayer
Headed back out to spray everything out front, out back and then stuff at the next Building that I planted
That should do for the Day, back in the Clouds again, and hopefully another tolerable Day

It was still 75 Degrees when I headed out for my Lottos and the Sun was shining again, looked like a nice Day
Hit the ATM at the Price Chopper, bought my $20 worth of Lottos and then won $25 back, starting the Day right
So then I had a $5 and $25 Win to trade, going to the Station where Rion works at 2 p.m. so will trade there
What until then? Maybe start on some Pickles, getting too many cukes all over again

OK... Cucumbers sliced and into the big Bowl with Salt and Ice at Noon, after two hours, drain and into the Jars
Pour in the Brine, on with the Caps and... VOILA!... Two more Pints of Bread and Butter Pickles

~ Two more Pints of Pickles to Enjoy ~

And then off at 2:15 p.m. to the I-435 Station to trade my Lottos to Rion... and win more? (shall we see?)

Well that's about five Miles there and I thought he was supposed to be there at 2 p.m. but was not
And the Gal at the Counter said he would be in at 4 p.m. Well I would not be, so I traded in my $35 of Wins for more
So the Five Miles back to Parkville, mixed me a Margarita to work my new Lottos... first one a loser
But the second! Lookee that, a 10 times $10 scratch... Love it! Second $100 Win this month
The third one was a Dud but the Fourth was a $15 Win, total $150 in Wins for the Day

~ Second $100 Win of the Month! ~

Well I had gone to that far off Gas Station to collect a Payment on the Computer I got for Rion
I didn't get to see him but the trip was worthwhile, he'll catch up on the Payment sometime and I got that $100 in my Pocket
So that was all the excitement for a nice Saturday, on to sip my Margarita, then whup up some Chow
Had a Salad of Cucumber, Green Pepper, Onion and those three little Golden Tomatoes
And finished that Stuffed Pepper I had Friday with more Mashed Taters and Beef Gravy, sure tasty

So a pretty nice Saturday, and profitable at that too... Got $130 of that Loot in my Pocket
Saying maybe some Rain on Sunday, the Gardens would welcome that... anyway.. off to the Day

~ Cloudier and Cooler Friday ~
~ Did a Little Gadening Maintenance ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Poblano Pepper in the Pot now at 32 Inches ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And again a very slow morning, nothing planned so no hurry for anything
I took a drive to the Price Chopper, needed a few stock Items, sure didn't need more Food
I try to convince myself not to cook so much so often but I do not listen, so.. all those leftovers
I did pick up my Lottos for the Day and only won a dinky $5 again, took that back to Minit Mart
Traded in my $5 and more and then only won Five back again... Oh well, I did have a couple good Days

And they were promising Thunder Showers and Ran but all we got were haze and clouds
I wanted to water out back but was holding out for the Showers, went out back to Fertilize the moved Tomatoes
I put Two gallons of Water and Two TBS of MiracleGro in my Sprinkler Can, doused the Tomatoes good
They have some small branches dying back but do look like they are going to survive and I saw a few more Tomatoes

~ Some Tiny Tomatoes on the Tomato Transplants ~

Back around front I saw the Poblano Pepper in the Pot was spreading out, needed a prop maybe
I took out a 1 X 2 Stake and stuck it in the Pot, tied the Branches to the stake, looks a little tidier

And the Better Boys Tomato Plant in the Pot was outgrowing the Trellis, needed to stake that too
So I got my Saw, headed back to the Jungle to find a little Tree to cut a Stake for that Project
Looked around, not finding just what I wanted except way off in the Weeds, didn't want any Chiggers

So I headed back in, saw one of the neighbor Girls from Upstairs out picking Grass for her Guinea Pig
She asked how my Garden was doing, Great I said and do you like Pickles... Bread abd Butters?
Oh yes, I said I'll get you some, I hadn't tasted them but I had a sample Jar, took a bite and WOW!
I think the best ones I have ever made, I picked out a Pint and took them out to her

And then back inside I took a look in the Wash Room... HAH! A nice little 1 X 1 that just might do for a Stake
Took that back out and wired it to the Trellis, got the Tomato tied on and heading up, Project done

~ A Stake for the Tomato Plant in the Pot ~

And that was it for the Day, a lot more doing that I thought I would do, Margarita time
I took out a hunk of that Stacked Enchilada Dish I made last week, put a slice of Cheese on top
Went out back and picked Pepper... Then made a Salad with my Pepper, Cucumber and Some Sweet Onion

~ A Big Bertha Pepper Picked ~ And into a Cucumber Onion Pepper Salad !

Stuck the Enchiladas in the Oven, hotted them up, had my Salad and Enchiladas with the TV
That wound up the Day with no plans that kept me busy all day

Now it's Saturday? What to do to waste this Weekend, off we go...

~ And it WAS Hot! ~

~ Harvest for Thursday Morning ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another slow Morning just chatting with Sigi and Swamp and poking around on the Computer
Saying another Hot Day but a cooler one tomorrow and Saturday, going to get hot today though
Morning started out Sunny and then kinda Hazy and then back to Sun again, need to Water out back and Front
Headed to the Minit Mart first for lottos, traded in some of my Winnings, won back just $5
So then back down to the Fast Stop to trade more Winnings and again only won $5
OK, that just will not do, so where to go to try for a better Deal?

Decided to take a peek out back before I went Lottoing again... 11 a.m. and HOT! 94 then
Anyway I picked Five Cucumbers and a 'Big Bertha' Sweet Pepper, long but not fat like it's supposed to grow
I have been watching that one several Days, didn't look like it would fatten up so I picked it and Five Cucumbers
But there are only Four Cukes in that Photo, I saw the next Door Gal on the way back in, offered her the best one
Thinking I would thaw out a Sausage and stuff that Pepper with Sausage and Onions and Picante Sauce

And then out again to the Price Chopper for a third try... Doggone... only another $5 Win

On through a Hot Afternoon, stayed inside and tried to keep busy, mostly TV but some Laundry too
I did start on my Dinner early, Slit that Pepper down one side and into a pot to simmer a bit
I removed the casing and chopped up the Sausage, then a half a sweet Onion, into the pot with a little Olive Oil
Let that simmer a bit then added some of my Home Made Salsa Picante, stirred that in to meld
When the Pepper had cooled I opened it a bit to scrape out the Seeds, then filled it full of Sausage
Then a little Parmesan Cheese on top and into Casserole then into the Oven for a Half Hour

~ My First 'Big Bertha Pepper' ~ Stuffed with Italian Sausage ~

Next I made up some Beef Gravy, Butter, Flour, Salt, Pepper and Beef Stock, peeled and boiled some Taters
Mashed the Taters, added Butter and Milk, Salt and Pepper, and all ready for Dinner
The result? More good stuff there Maynard! Pepper roasted nicely, Sausage juicy and spicy and lots of Onions
The creamy Mashed Potatoes with just the right amount of Beef Gravy on a pile of Mashed Taters
Yeah, I hit a Home Run on this try... now what can I whup up for today (Friday)

~ 'Down Home Cookin' Hash for Dinner ~

~ Cukes for Wednesday ~ Bottom One just about Perfect ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Slow Wednesday Morning, too much chat and Computering, didn't post my BLOG until after 9 a.m.
But I don't expect anyone is really eager to see more Drivel anyway... So out to check the Crops
One just about perfect size Cucumber ready and a shorter one... That's a Seven Inch 'Straight Eight'
The perfect size for that type is just at Eight Inches and that one is close enough

And off to another 'not much going on' Day, Weather getting hot again, another Ten Daya of Hot coming now
Did my usual running around seeking my Fortune again. winning some little ones
I won a $5, $5, $10 and then a nicer $20 and $25... Still have $20 to trade in this Morning, a little Profit there

Just nothing going on, started early afternoon on something for Dinner, what for Wednesday then?
Well I had the last of those smoked Spareribs in the Fridge, how about some Hash, not done that for awhile
So I cut the Meat off the Bones, cut it up, into the Skillet with Taters, Onions, Green Pepper
Let that all simmer down and meld together, set it aside to hold warm until Dinner

~ Good ole Down Home Hash ~

Then sipping my Margarita and I saw the Gal next door pull in, I had promised her a Cucumber
So I took over that nice Cucumber I had picked that morning, she said thank you...
Then she had seen my Hose was out front, asked to use it, sure, I went in to hook it up and turn it on for her
She sure is a sweet and good looking Girl, too bad I am 60 Years older, might ask her out to dinner... Yeah!

And back in to set out Dinner and finish up the Day... The Hash was OK but not exceptional...
Well all my Cooking can't be super Special, sometimes I just luck out

~ Dull Day ~ No Big Winners ~
~ Made a German Dinner ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Bratwurst, Rotkohl und Kartoffel-Salat ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

What? Need a translation? That's Bratwurst, Red Cabbage and Potato Salad (Hot German Style)
I was chatting with Sigi online and somehow got to talking about Food and I started thinking of German food
Hadn't done that in quite a while, that would be something different so I spent most of the Afternoon on that
Nothing much going on, a slow Morning except losing on Lottos, and I did too much of that

No Gardenng except for a walk out back to check things... And nothing to Harvest or work on back there
So, I put out a huge Bratwurst to thaw, needed some stuff for my German Meal so headed to the Price Chopper
Mainly some more Onions and a head of Red Cabbage and a few other stock up things... and saw some Bacon on Sale

So then back into that long afternoon, that stuff takes time to do right, I checked recipes online to refresh 'how to'
I started on the Cabbage first, Butter in the large Skillet, chopped Onions, added Sugar and Vinegar
Then started slicing and adding that big head of Red Cabbage, added a sliced Apple, finally all simmering in the Skillet
Next I started on the hot German Potato Salad... Peeled and sliced the Potatoes and simmer in water in a Pot
Then I needed that large Skillet to do my Potatoes, dumped the Cabbage into a large Pot to finish
Added some Bacon and Bacon grease to the Skillet, added Sliced Onions and then the simmered Potatoes, Sugar and Vinegar
And after that simmered a bit I added that big Sausage in the middle of everything, now everything cooking slowly

Margarita and TV News Time, finally a Movie and more Colombo with Dinner... Big Plateful, Sausage, Cabbage and Potatoes
And in my not so humble opinion, a pretty successful try, of course Sigi would find fault with it, not like his Mamma made
But on both Dishes there are many variations and I kinda like the one I came up with, but I have way too much Cabbage left over

So, not much going on on Tuesday but I passed the time pleasantly for the most part... Now what for Wednesday?

~ A New Month ~ New Week ~ New Day ~
~ Won a Couple Nice Lottos ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ First Golden Harvest Tomato ~ And a Little Fat Cuke ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Monday, another Cool Morning, and a Cloudy Day on the way they say... But back into the Heat later
And then hot 90s for the next Ten Days... Oh poor Gardens... and all that Watering... Not today though
Some Chat on the Net, some BLOG writing, and finally headed out for my Lottos, had started to walk out... Raining again
Just a nice steady light rain Shower, tapered off as I headed to the Fast Stop... Got my Lottos
Back then to scratch off Two duds then a $5 win, then the Crossword, looking good... hit a Double pay Word
Kept on to win Six Words for $50, the Double Word making it a $100 Win... very nice!

So I took those Wins back to the Price Chopper and traded for more, back to scratch off another $5 win
And then another nice Win, five words fr $25 then the Bonus Word for another $25...a $50 total Win<
That made the Total Win for the Day $160... of course it cost $40 to win it, but a nice profit

~ Two Great Wins on the First Day of August ~

The weather stayed Cloudy and hazy Sunny and Cool, was only up to 80 Degrees at 2 p.m.
Headed out back earlier to pick one tiny Golden Harvest Tomato and another Fat Cucumber, not a large Harvest
Then about 3 p.m. the Sun came out and it was supposed to go to 90, didn't look like it would make it
On to put something out to thaw for Dinner, and mix a Margarita and get bored by more Politics

So, Dinner turned out to be one more of those big Lotto Prize Burgers, and Tater Salad... good stuff
Well then... I had TWO Margaritas in the long afternoon, then a few Glasses of Vino Tinto then a Movie
Then another Episode of the Old Colombo TV show and finished with an Andrew Rieu Concert
Pretty nice Day but not really much going on but nice to win a couple nice Lottos, have a pocket full to buy more
Off now to see what Tuesday can do... CHARGE!

~ Delightful Cool Morning Sunday ~
~ And then the Rains Came! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Poblano in the Pot at 29 Inches! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Very nice Morning... Cool and Cloudy and I headed out back first thing to water the Gardens
I wanted the Transplanted Tomatoes to get a good start on the Day, they survived pretty well on Saturday
I didn't cover them at all on Saturday but it was a pop in and out Sun most all Day
And I see there are some nice little Tomatoes on them, little Green ones on two Plants and a Golden one on the third

Still cloudy at 8 a.m. and 75 Degrees when I headed out to find my Fortune... and did not
The Forecast was sayng partly Sunny, maybe I can get off with no Tomato cover again... I'll have to watch

And another peek at the Poblano out front in the Pot, that move seemed to work great, it was going nowhere inside
Now it has Four nice Peppers on it and at 29 Inches, taller than the one inside at 24 Inches
But the one inside has Eight Peppers on it and they are larger, but it got a better start

And so the Morning beginning to slip by, I started on this BLOG for Sunday, heard drips and looked out the Window
Hey! Looked dark as Night out there! And then I heard more pitter patter and the Rains Came and Heavy
And continued with some Thunder and then got all quiet, but still raining... And I had just watered real good out back

~ A Downpour at 9 a.m. on Sunday ~

And so the day moves on and slowly, no projects in sight, cooking or otherwise... Ho Hum...
The Rain stopped, the Sky brightened up, nothing to do outside on this damp Day
Ok lets take a Photo of my Pickle Products so far... Three Pints in that large Jar the others One Pint each
Going to have to find something else to do with my Cucumbers, that's enough Pickles to last me a long time

~ Nine Pints of Bread and Butter Pickles ~

And that Cloudy Day kept on most all Day with some occasional short periods of hazy Sun, those Tomatoes should like that
And thinking of Pickles again... I did make some earlier and used some Brine I had in the Fridge
So I took out a small Jar of those and had a taste... They Taste like DILL PICKLES! Wonder what that Brine was used for?

~ The First Pickles I made this Season ~

I did make some Pickled Beets but they don't taste like Dill, I looked through my old BLOGS to see what
But I can't find what I used that Brine for.. unless it was the Pickled Beets back in May
Anyway those 'Dill' Pickles taste good and will go good on Burgers

I can't remember anything special the rest of the Day to bother anyone with so I guess this is all she wrote
And now off to another Monday.. How many more do I have left?
