~ Delightful Cool Morning Sunday ~
~ And then the Rains Came! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Poblano in the Pot at 29 Inches! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Very nice Morning... Cool and Cloudy and I headed out back first thing to water the Gardens
I wanted the Transplanted Tomatoes to get a good start on the Day, they survived pretty well on Saturday
I didn't cover them at all on Saturday but it was a pop in and out Sun most all Day
And I see there are some nice little Tomatoes on them, little Green ones on two Plants and a Golden one on the third

Still cloudy at 8 a.m. and 75 Degrees when I headed out to find my Fortune... and did not
The Forecast was sayng partly Sunny, maybe I can get off with no Tomato cover again... I'll have to watch

And another peek at the Poblano out front in the Pot, that move seemed to work great, it was going nowhere inside
Now it has Four nice Peppers on it and at 29 Inches, taller than the one inside at 24 Inches
But the one inside has Eight Peppers on it and they are larger, but it got a better start

And so the Morning beginning to slip by, I started on this BLOG for Sunday, heard drips and looked out the Window
Hey! Looked dark as Night out there! And then I heard more pitter patter and the Rains Came and Heavy
And continued with some Thunder and then got all quiet, but still raining... And I had just watered real good out back

~ A Downpour at 9 a.m. on Sunday ~

And so the day moves on and slowly, no projects in sight, cooking or otherwise... Ho Hum...
The Rain stopped, the Sky brightened up, nothing to do outside on this damp Day
Ok lets take a Photo of my Pickle Products so far... Three Pints in that large Jar the others One Pint each
Going to have to find something else to do with my Cucumbers, that's enough Pickles to last me a long time

~ Nine Pints of Bread and Butter Pickles ~

And that Cloudy Day kept on most all Day with some occasional short periods of hazy Sun, those Tomatoes should like that
And thinking of Pickles again... I did make some earlier and used some Brine I had in the Fridge
So I took out a small Jar of those and had a taste... They Taste like DILL PICKLES! Wonder what that Brine was used for?

~ The First Pickles I made this Season ~

I did make some Pickled Beets but they don't taste like Dill, I looked through my old BLOGS to see what
But I can't find what I used that Brine for.. unless it was the Pickled Beets back in May
Anyway those 'Dill' Pickles taste good and will go good on Burgers

I can't remember anything special the rest of the Day to bother anyone with so I guess this is all she wrote
And now off to another Monday.. How many more do I have left?

~ Pay Day and Pickle Day ~
~ Not as Busy as Friday ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Top Row Picked Saturday ~ Another Pickle Day Today? ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Well that was a busy Day Friday, don't think it will be as busy Saturday, but ya never know
Starting the Day on a cool note at 67 Degrees but warmed up to 72 by 9 a.m. and then up the Hill
The Tomato Transplants looked pretty good after not being covered on Friday but there wasn't a lot of Sun
Will have to keep an eye on them again although the Temp is forecast to be cooler
And then picked Six more Cucunbers, with the ones I already had it looks like enough for some more Pickles

Off to the Price Chopper, I needed more Jars, Coffee, Baggies, Laundry Detergent and LOTTOS!
Last time I bought Jars I thought that Six Pint ones should be enough, nope, all full now
So this time I sprung for a Dozen Pints, and that should outlast my Pickles I would hope

I was thinking that Three Jars should handle the Day's Pickling so I put them in the Dishwasher
Then I worked my Lottos, a good start, won two $15 Tickets, will try not to buy any more until Sunday
And then I started on the Pickle Brine, will use it after the Cucumbers rest in Salt and Ice for Two Hours

So, Pickle Brine made and heated to dissolve the Sugar, Cucumbers sliced and into the Bowl with Salt and Ice
Waited those Two hours, then heated the Brine to Boiling, slipped in the Cuke Slices to heat and then into the Jars

~ Third Batch of El Pato Bread and Butter Pickles ~

Now I have Nine Pints of Bread and Butter Pickles in the Fridge, looks like I better be giving some away
Up to 88 Degrees at 4 p.m. and looking cloudy out there, are we going to get some Rain? Would be nice
Be running around quite a bit latey just keeping most everything Watered up... Would like to skip a couple Days

The Pickling done for the Day, time for a Margarita and think of something good for Dinner
I still have most of that Potato Salad I made on Friday, maybe a Burger would go good with some of that
So back out to the Kitchen to put out a Bun and a Lotto Prize Burger to thaw

And with that Dinner and a little more TV then an Andrew Rieu Concert in Germany on You Tube on the TV
That was the Finale for a Pleasant Saturday

~ Ever Onward and Upward! ~

~ First Mexibell Harvest? ~ Nope, Pepper Fell Off ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

OK, Ended my Friday Morning BLOG at 10 a.m. That was a lot of Drivel in just 5 Hours from 5 to 10 a.m.
And I started ny Afternoon then about 10:30 when I headed to the Price Chopper for Milk and Juice and Lottos
And then, back at the Ranchito, I only won a Dinky $5 win... But at least had my Milk and Apple Juice

OK, I had received an Email earlier from a guy in Carolina that I used to Chat with in the Yahoo Kitchen Chat
After Yahoo Chat closed we talked on Yahoo Messenger for sometime, then had a slight Tiff and quit talking
Seems like about two years ago, time do fly don't it? Anyway a nice friendly Email so I amswered it

Then... I wasn't satisfied losing $15 on my Morning Gamble so I went back to try some more, that $5 Win and $8 more
This time I only won another $5... Where's my Winners? Shall I go back and trade that $5 one?

Well the Weather did what I wanted until about 1 p.m. in the 80s and hazy sun, not so bright as to bother the Transplants
The Sun came out bright at 1 p.m. so I took a walk out back to see how the Tomatoes were handling it
It was still only 81 Degrees and the Tomatoes looked OK, the sun was still popping in and out so I didn't cover them

Then, thinking ahead, 'What's for Dinner?' Still some BBQ Ribs in the Freezer, how about some Tater Salad, started on that
And I had the Ribs in the Oven and Tater Salad in the Fridge at 2:30 p.m. Time for a Margarita and TV
While I was sitting there... HUH? I saw that a little Mexibell Pepper had fallen off, what's going on?
I got a quick Photo, took that to the Kitchen, what to do with it, sure don't want to waste my First Mexibell

And then... I finished that Margarita then hooked up the Hose again and headed out front to help out the Plants there
I took own my sweet time and watered everything out front, the Sun was back out and it was kinda Warm
I saw that the Dahlia I originally had in front of the Office and replaced had new Blooms on it, looking good
So I got a Photo and then after watering everything out there once again and stuff was looking good, back inside

~ Daliah Plant decided to Bloom again ~

Back inside for the Day, decided on a Salad and included that little Pepper, so... Tomato, Pepper, Onion and Cucumber
Yep, that little Mexibell had a touch of heat in it, added a little zip to the Salad
Then the Finale for that busy busy Day, BBQ Ribs and fresh made Potato Salad

Now off to Pay Day on Saturday

~ Ever Onward and Upward! ~

Yesterday I saw the old guy on his Deck next Door, I wandered over there to see what the latest was
He had Three huge Bags of Laundry there, he had called a Taxi to take him to Platte Woods to launder them
I told him next time, just save about a Week's worth and bring them over to my place, save about $30
Then looking back at my place... Oh! Gorgeous View! So I had to take the Photo above, the Photo doesn't do it justice though

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And then Friday Morning and up and at 'em at 5 a.m. as mostly usual, 70 degrees to start and 85 later on, not so bad
Continuimg my exciting daily existence, I set about my Morning routine, pouring my Juice, putting on the Coffee
Placing my Phone on the Charger then checking Online, my Bank Account, Facebook and Email and some of the News
And then finishing up the 'Oh so Interesting' Events of the Day before and then posting my Blog online and then Facebook
I guess if you are over the Hill then Hobbies like Photo, Cooking, Gardening and Computering are plenty to keep an old Man happy

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Walking out the front Door Friday Morning in the Cool 70 Degrees and what a Sight to behold! Beautiful Flowers!
Flowers to the Left, Flowers to the Right, the front Yard looking better this Year than it ever has to Date

~ Flowers Everywhere! ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Anyway, let's start on the Day Friday... Watering the first thing on the Agenda, those Tomato Plants the first priority
Hooked up the Hose at 7:30 and headed out back... Started on the 'Better Boys' Tomato Bed
Noticed in the Photo of the Transplants on Thursday, the Better Boys Plants had a lot of unsightly dead Leaves on them
So I had my Clipper with me, I clipped most all of them and tossed them out, looks a lot neater now

~ Better Boys over 6 Feet ~ Looking Better with the Dead Leaves Clipped ~

Then I watered everything in that Bed really well again, leaving the Shade off the Transplants for a little while
The Morning Sun isn't all that Hot and I want the Plants to get used to having a Sun Bath

~ Golden Harvest Tomatoes doing Ok for Now ~

Then I watered the other Beds, then propped up a couple of wandering Cucumber Vines, they are heading to the Sky!
And I saw the little Eggplant that is doing nothing was leaning over,.. I put in a Stake to prop it up
And then I picked three more nice sized Cucumbers, have a half Dozen in the Fridge now

~ Don't need 'One a Day' Vitamins ~ I have 'Three a Day' Cucumbers ~

And WHAT? All this stuff before 9:30 Friday Morning and a whole Day left... Well this calls for a FIRST
For the First Time... a second BLOG for the Same Day... Now off to the rest of Friday

~ Heading back in after the Morning Watering ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Thursday and the Week is running out, fine with me, Pay Day is Saturday, a little early this Month
Starting my Day at 71 Degrees at 6 a.m. and a bit Cooler day at 89 maybe, that 95 on Wednesday a bit too much
It was nice in the cool out front Wednesday when I did my watering but it didn't last long
First plan of the Day Thursday, head out back to cover the Tomato Transplants again

So, out back and up the Hill on Thursday Morning at 6:30 a.m. and the Transplants were looking a lot better
The Cover on Tuesday and Wednesday and then watering heavily seems to have done the trick

~ Tomato Transplant Tuesday Afternoon ~ And on Thursday Morning ~

I didn't think they needed watering Thursday Morning, maybe more when they go to bed at night when I take the cover off
It sure looks like now they are going to survive quite well if I keep a close eye on their needs

~ Golden Harvest Tomatoes in their new Home ~

And as usual lately, most of the outside Garden work was done in the early Morning, then set off for Lottos
I headed first for the Fast Stop, won some and headed to Minit Mart and then running around chasing more at the Price Chopper
I don't remember what where but I did win a $5, $5, $5, $5, $10, $15, and a nice $25... that's $70 ain't it?
Well it wasn't a $70 profit, I thnk I might have broke even, or made or lost a little
That's not the Name of the Game, for me it is trying to finally, someday... Win that elusive Big One

Done with that... I was checking on Facebook again, saw a Post for 'Mexican Tortlla Casserole'... with their Recipe
That reminded me of 'Stacked Enchiladas' and I sure don't need any Recipe, I make it up as I go along
So I thought that would be a nice change of Menu to make some more of those, hadn't cooked Mexican for awhile

And I had most all the stuff I needed already at Home... but I was all out of Cumin... have to have that
So I got some from the Price Chopper, back home to start on the new Cooking Project
Want the Recipe? HAH... well listen close... I needed Chili, so I made some real quick, I thawed two Lotto Beef Burgers
Then crumbled them, put them in the Skillet to brown, then into the Pot, added some of My chopped Tomatoes I had in the Fridge
Into that I added Garlic Salt, Cumin, Chili Powder, some of my own Basil, Cilantro and Oregano, tasted it... Yeah!

OK, then needed chopped Onions, Grated Colby/Jack Cheese, Picante Sauce, Corn Tortillas, I had all that... Next?
And then assembling the Enchiladas in a Casserole, some of my new Picante Sauce in the Bottom of the Bowl
Then softening a Corn Tortilla in Oil, then placed over the Sauce in the Bowl, grated Cheese and Onions over that
Next repeat that process for a few more Tortillas using up most of the Cheese and Onions, a final Tortilla on top
The finale of Assembly, a layer of Chili on the top Tortilla, finish wth more Cheese and Picante Sauce... AHA!
Then into the Oven to bake for a half hour or whatever looks like needed... Voila! El Pato's Stacked Enchladas!

So on to the rest of the Evening with Cocktail, then Vino Tinto until Dinner time, hotted up a slice of that Casserole
And this latest attempt of Stacked Enchiladas was much better than the last... Always good but sometimes really Tasty!

So a pretty good Day again on Thursday, let's finish up Friday cuz Pay Day is coming Saturday! HOORAY!

And what else did I leave out for Tuesday, a real busy day but not doing much of anything of interest except to me
Well first, I was expecting a Package from UPS with some new Jeans and a new Jacket, delivered in the Afternoon
I heard a knock, saw the UPS man walking back to his Truck, my package on the Chair out front
Kinda small packiage for two Items, opened it and only my Jeans inside... Where's my Jacket? Oh No!
So I got online to Sears, checked my Orders, the Jeans order... said 'Delivered' the Jacket order said... 'In Transit'
OK... Still on the way then, and then about 6 p.m. same guy shows up, says he overlooked it in the Truck... All OK

And then the afternoon dragged on, Hot again, I took a look out back at my Transplanted Tomatoes
They looked pretty good earlier after I put them in with the other Tomatoes... But now... Oh Oh... Not so good

~ Transplanted Tomatoes not Looking so Good Tuesday Evening ~

Back inside to sip a Glass of wine and eat another Cookie, where's Dinner anyway, then decided to plant again
I took that empty Grow Bowl to the Kitchen to clean it all out, then reassembled and back in the Garden
Then I took a couple of extra Grow Sponges and stuck in the Six Seeds I got from that order from Bulgaria
Then I filled the Grow Bowl with Water and Nutrient, put the Top on, stuck in the Two new Seed Pods

~ New Crop of Mexibells Planted in Garden 5 ~ When do we get a Germination? ~

Ok, that's all I left out of my Tuesday Diatribe, let's get on to Wednesday, like they say... 'Halfway through the Working Week'
Work? What's that... I haven't done any 'Work' since 1987 and back then it really wasn't much Work at IBM
I do what some might call Work out back but I call it Recreation.. so let's get with it

I meant to Water out front and the transplsnts out back on Tuesday but never got around to it
So that was the Order of Business first thing Wednesday, hooked up the Hose, watered evrything out fromt again
Then dragged the Hose out back to Water those Transplants again, hoping to revive then, then put the Shade back up
And back around front, took a look at my Transplant there in the Pot and it is doing Great!
The inside Poblano is now at 24 Inches tall, the one in the Pot outdoing it at 26 Inches and lots of Peppers now

~ Transplanted Poblano now at 26 Inches ~

Then an Afternoon Project, decided to harvest some more Oregano from the Pot out front, lots of small leaves
I planted that Oregano in January, had a really slow start bur I did harvest some in April, then set the pot out front
So I just hit it with some water When I did that out front, finally was ready for some clipping again
So I did it the easy way, brought it in out of that heat, sipped my Manhattan as I clipped and watched TV

~ Oregano to Clip ~ Oregano to Dry ~

Then wasted the rest of the Afternoon watching TV, about 5 p.m. wanted to head out back to water the Tomato Transplants
I had them sahed most of the Day and they looked like they did perk up a little from Wednesday
I'll head back up there first thing this Thursday Morning and cover them again

And that was it for Thursday, grilled me up another Lotto Prize Sausage and finished out the Day with TV

~ A New Pop-Up Project ~
~ Moved the Golden Tomatoes Outside ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Solo Harvest for Tuesday ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

A change in Plans first thing on the Second Pop-Up Project I thought up on Monday
Buying three new Pots and enough Potting Soil for three Tomato Plants not doing much... Not worth the expense
I thought I would just plant them out back in the Cucumber Bed, see if that would work
And so, out back in the Morning breeze at 7 a.m. Had the three rescued Plants in a bucket

~ Tomatoes ready to Plant Outside ~ Some New Tomatoes on those Plants ~

Saw not enough room in the Cucumber Bed but lots of room in the Better Boys Tomato Bed
I dug three deep wide Holes, dropped in the Plants still in the 'Grow Pods'... Covered them with soil
Then I watered them really heavy, they were sitting in Water inside so I gave them plenty outside
Now I'll have to go back out when the Sun gets HOT, and shade them for a few Days until they acclimate

~ Planted in with the Better Boys Plants ~

So then, I was thinking about what to shade them with, that Bed is 8 feet long, don't have an Umbrella that big
How about an old Bed Sheet I don't use any more... I headed out back at 11 a.m. to check, yeah... looking a little wilty
So I wired on the Sheet, pretty well shaded the new Tomatoes, didn't shade the Better Boys in the back

~ Shade for the Transplants ~

And that was that for the Morning, and into the afternoon and what's next? Well, all out of Sugar Cookies
Lessee, had Brown Sugar, Flour, Baking Soda, Salt, Baking Powder, Oats, Eggs, Butter, Vanilla... Ooops, No Raisins
Back to the Price Chopper for Raisins, more Brown Sugar and 'Natures Harvest' Bread for later
Back home then to start on the Cookies, a bit more involved than the Sugar Cookies but I like 'em better

On to the Whisking, Mixing, Creaming, Stirring in the Dry Stuff, adding the Raisins and Oats
Then forming the sticky Balls of Dough, onto the Cookie Sheet, flatten a bit and into the Oven
Then the place starts smelling of Cookies, first Batch of 12 done, out then to Cool
Into the Oven with 12 more to Bake, Ooops, got a little more Dough left, made 4 more
Out with the Second batch and in with the tiny last Batch and finally about 3 p.m. VOILA!

~ Two Dozen of El Pato's Oatmeal Raisin Cookies ~

And I let them there Beauties Cool while I sipped a Margarita and watched more of that Convention Non-News
On to the rest of what had turned out to be a really busy day, not doing much but doing a lot of it
I sampled a Cookie, they will do quite well, watched more TV, did a couple more small chores
And now this Diatribe is getting too long, So on to Wednesday's Blog to finish up with Tuesday Evening

~ Ever Onward and Upward! ~

~ A Bit Cooler Monday Morning ~
~ Made Salsa from my Tomatoes and Jalapenos ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ The Harvest for Monday ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Yeah, a bit cloudy and nice and comfy when I walked out at 8 a.m. to check the Crops in back
Picked ome small Cucumber... a couple more will be ready on Tuesday, then Four Better Boys Tomatoes
Getting another surplus, this time Tomatoes, decided to make some more Salsa Picante
For that you basically need Onions, Tomatoes and Jalapenos, I had my own Tomatoes and Jalapenos
But I was all out of Onions, used the last big one in my Pickles on Sunday

~ Looks Like Salsa Making Time to Me ~

So it was off to the Price Chopper for Onions, more Vinegar, also Milk and Vino Tinto... And Lottos
Back home to scratch off a $10 Winner, didn't lose all anyway, then off to make Salsa... more Fun Time!
Started that off Chopping up Tomatoes Onions and Jalapenos then adding some Seasonings, no Recipe just toss it in

My Home Grown Tomatoes, Jalapenos, Basil and Cilantro... Then the Store stuff, Onions and Garlic Salt
Let simmer a bit and took a Taste... Oh! Oh! A little bit on the HOT side, chopped up a few more Tomatoes
Then let that simmer a bit more to cook down some... Tasted again, seems OK... Then into the Jars

~ El Pato's own Brand of Salsa Picante ~

The main pop-up Project of the Day finished, what else to while out the rest of the Day... Oh Oh...
Another pop-up Project... or is that a fall-over Project? Two Plants in the Aero 5 Garden fell over
Well just those dinky Grow Pods trying to hold up a heavy Plant... So I tied them up some, but what to do?
Well, another Project, head to Lowes on Tuesday, buy some Pots and Soil and transplant them
It worked for the short Pepper Plant, maybe it would rescue the Tomatoes? ...Worth a try, if not the Cost

~ Had to tie up the Tomato Disaster ~

Into the Afternoon, not quite so hot, was in the high 80s, had my Margarita while catching up on TV News
Just thinking about that Thai Basil out front, I had snipped all the Blooms off, hoping for bigger Leaves
Thought I would just go ahead, snip off all the leaves and dump the Plant, an experiment with three Grow Pods
So I went out front, set the pot on my Porch Chair had a seat on another and clipped them all off
Then back inside, turned on the oven, set them in and dried them, Thai Basil experiment complete

~ Thai Basil to Harvest ~ Harvested and ready to Dry and Store ~

Then, it was shady out back about 5 p.m. Plugged in my Electric Cord, went out back and mowed around the Garden Beds
Tuesday coming up, the Mowing Crew will be here to finish the rest of the Yard... Now... on to Tuesday

~ Ever Onward and Upward! ~

~ Harvested more Cucumbers ~
~ Made more Pickles ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Cucumbers Picked Sunday Morning ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Out and up the Hill at 9 a.m. and hot already, and humid! Ya betcha bippy it was and is
I was after the Cucumbers but I wanted a Photo of the big Cantaloupe, and it is now right at 6 Inches long
And the little one next to it doubled in size since Saturday. And lots more little ones popping out now
Then back to the Cucumber Bed and harvested five more, Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large and WOW!

~ The Biggest Melon now at 6 Inches ~

Then back in and played around with the Computer until doggone near Noon before stopping for Breakfast
OK then some Toast and Rhubarb Sauce... Ohh that is soooo good! Then finished my Shower and off to see the Wizard
Well I was getting a surplus of Cucumbers again and thought I would make some more Pickles with them
So I headed to the Price Chopper for Celery Seed, Mustard Seed and Garlic Salt and Canning Jars
Back in that heat, then 95 or so and inside in the Cool to start on the Pickles, kind of fun in a way

~ Lots of Cucumbers from Three Days to slice up and make Pickles ~

The new Jars into the Dishwasher to sterilize, then started on the Cucumbers and Onions and then the Pickling Brine
We've been through this process a few times before, Pickle making is all about all the same way mostly

Sliced the Cucmbers, then sliced the Onions, then into the big Bowl and dumped in the Salt and stirred
Then on with the Ice and the weight Plate and the Jug of Water for the Weight... all set

~ Sliced and Ready for the Brine ~

After a couple hours, drained the Cukes and into the simmering Brine to heat just to boiling
And then into the 'Legacy' Bell Canning Jars, they are a repro of the older style and dark purple
And makes it hard to see the Pickles inside.. Oh well, they were on sale anyway

~ More 'El Pato' Bread and Butter Pickles ~

And after the Pickle episode that was about it for the Day, just Dinner and more TV.. Ho Hum...
Now a New Day, New Week, and a slightly cooler Day ahead, that's welcome after that scorcher Sunday
Let's see what Adventure this new Week Holds besides pay Day on Saturday... Whooopeee!

~ A Special Pause for a Thought ~
~ Why a BLOG for my Daily Drivel? ~

Yes, why does that silly old Man write this stuff almost every Day, who reads it anyway?
Well surprisingly a few Friends and a couple Relatives, keeps them informed? and saves on Postage
Like my Cousin in California, maybe my Nephew in Kansas City, Sigi Wulle (Tom Brock) in Germany, Sir Jock Whyte in England
And several Facebook friends all over the United States and across the World... I know as I get comments from them

It all began way back in the Kitchen Chat Room on Yahoo Chat, Yahoo then started a sort of BLOG they called '360'
And I started my 360 Page, you could post Photos, Videos and Comments, but with limits, could not post certain things
And they started limiting the size of the Videos you could post.. And then for a Finale... They Shut it down
The next move for Yahoo was to discontinue the Chat Rooms altogether, goodbye Chat and Chat friends

Well I still had some of those Chat Friends on Yahoo Messenger, Sigi has been around for Ten Years now
And also to replace my old '360' Page I started writing my own BLOG that I call - donlsmith.net/Page - and added it to my Web Site
The beauty about this Page is that I can post anything I want, but I do try to avoid Sex, Politics and Religion<

Next step, someone (don't remember who) invited me to Facebook, OK tried that, found many old Yahoo Chat Friends there
So I started posting Photos and my BLOG daily to Facebook and started getting many Comments and made many more Friends

And also and important to me, gives me another Hobby and a 'Diary' that proves handy at times
'When did I buy that?' 'When did I do that?' 'When did that Happen?' 'When did I plant that?' 'When did harvest start?'
And the comments I get back are comforting too for the most part... So many advantages for me and some fun(?) for others too

And that is why I spend all this time taking Photos and putting this stuff on my Daily Drivel Page... Thank you

~ Now back to the Daily Diatribe ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Saturday and slow going... Another Hot Day on the way they said... Yeah was 86 at Noon, going on up to 96 later
And no plans and didn't feel like doing much either, just poking around all morning
Took a look at the Poblano in AeroGarden 7, measured it... almost to the Grow Light at 23 Inches
Wondered how tall the one I moved outside was then... Took a photo of the one inside, then outside
The little one I put in the Pot has caught up with the one inside at 23 Inches also and looking great
The one inside had at least Ten Peppers on it, the one outside now has Four, looked like that Idea worked OK

~ Both Poblanos in Garden 7 July 2 ~ One Poblano in Garden 7 July 23 ~

The little Pepper inside had a slow start, the big one was about twice the size when I decided to move the small one
Now the one in the Aerogarden has no where to go, the Grow Light is at its Top, the one outside has no limit

~ Poblano moved to the Pot July 3 ~ Poblano in the Pot July 23 ~

Did my run-around for my Daily Dose of Lottos, won a $5, $5, $10 and a $15 but still no profit...
Anyway got to make a Trip to the Minit Mart and the Price Chopper Twice... Can't win 'em all

So getting hot in a kind of Hazy Sun but I took a hike out back, found a few more things to pick
Two Tomatoes and Four more Cucumbers, got plenty of Cukes in the Fridge and Tomatoes on the Table now
Been using them Daily and giving some away but looks like the Crop is still way ahead of me
But with a surplus of Tomatoes I can always chop them up and freeze for Tomato Sauce later and/or make Salsa...

Into the Hot afternoon and with a cool Margarita... watched some TV, then got up my courage and hooked up the Hose
Then out in the afternoon shade in front, dragged the Hose over to the next Buiiding to water the Plants
I saw the Neighbor's veggies in her Pots on the Porch were dry and wilty looking and watered them all
Then I waters all the Plants that I had plabted over there for Boss Bob... then around back
On the way watered my Rhubarb Patch and the little Rose I had transplanted, doing Ok now

And on to my Garden Beds, and watered them all very thoroughly, looks like more Cucumbers ready for Sunday
And at the last bed, the Cantaloupe Cage, that big one even bigger, sure hope the bugs don't get at it
Last dragged the Hose up to the Pumpkin Patch, looks like they aren't going to anything at all... again!

And that was it for Saturday... Some hotted up Dinner and more TV Movies and beddy bye

~ More Tomatoes for Lewis ~
~ Another Doctor Appoinment ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ A Catch Up Photo of the Sweet Potato Vines ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Friday Morning 5:30 a.m. and just posted my BLOG on Facebook, next worked my Crossword and then what?
Well what... was head out back at 7 a.m. and 82 Degrees, warm already, to check the Gardens
The Neighbor's little Romas were showing Color so I picked them, nothing else ready out back
Out front Three more 'Better Boys' Tomatoes in the pot looked about ready so I picked them too

~ Neighbor's Romas and my Onions ~ Three of my Better Boys ~ Three of the Neighbor's Romas ~

Got up a bit too early so it was a long time until clean up and start out time, at 9 a.m. first to the Coffee Shop
Lewis was there chatting with the Chief of Police, I gave Lewis his Tomatoes, he was pleased with the size
Gave him the Three biggest ones I had... then off to see the ENT Doctor... Got there early as usual...

Did the Paper work and then got in rather quickly, then a few Hearing tests... Then the Doctor
He did a couple peeks and checks and then said get a Hearing Aid... And then go back to the Therapist
And he gave me a couple drawings of exercises I could do to maybe help out my balance problem

Got some scratchers on the way back, didn't win much, took them back to trade and did win a nice $40 one
Then I got a call from my friend Pat, she said it was too hot and boring to be working outide
Wanted to come over and finish watching the old movie 'Psycho' we had started last time
So she walked over and down the Hill and we finished the last Hour of that Movie

Then... I have every episode of the several Seasons of the take off from that Movie called 'Bates Motel'
So I put on the first episode of that Series to show her how they sort of adapted the theme to the new TV series
And the afternoon wore on and she finished her Dos Equis and I fnished my Margarita and she took off up the Hill

And then... Not quite as hot as the Day before but the plants out front needed more Water, I tended to that
That was about it for the Day, hotted up some Dinner and had a glass of Vino and some more TV and then Beddy bye

Now Saturday, 80 degrees at 6 a.m. Heading to 97 again... Happy weekend to me... I hope

~ More Morning Harvests ~
~ One More Windows 10 Insider Update ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Mexibells really Getting with It Now ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

First thing when the Lights came on in the Aerogardens at 5 a.m. a quick check... Aha...
Three nice Mexibell Peppers now in the AeroGarden 6, growing fast and getting some size
Seem to be getting bigger faster then the Poblanos, maybe catch up and pass them up?

And then AGAIN! I fired up Dell Two Desktop and it says again "Restart Required'... Did that just two Days ago
I got another Windows 10 Insider update on Tuesday, now another one on Thursday
So I got that Update started on Dell One Desktop and went to work on my Photos and Blog on Dell Two

A slow start Thursday Mornng, just poking around on the Computers, then decided to check those Cantaloupes again
So I headed out back about 9 a.m. to check things... Yeah Two more Melons hiding under the Leaves
These a couple of Inches long... and several more little ones starting, just hope the Bugs don't get started too

~ Two More Nice Cantaloupes Starts ~

And what's this, since Wednesday Morning more Tomatoes needed picking, one a little Green but it fell off picking another
Then on the way back to the Other Beds, one more nice Cucumber was ready, Friday it might be too big

~ Harvest for Thursday Morning ~

So now I have a Table top full of Tomatoes in various stages of ripeness, what to do with all those?
Well, more Salads, Sandwiches, maybe some to the Neighbors.. and always can chop and freeze for Sauce

~ What to do with all those Tomatoes Now? ~

And, when I saw my next door Neighbor pull in after work, I gave her Two Tomatoes and a Cucumber, Two gone
And Friday Morning I planned to take the best Three down to the Coffee Shop for Lewis, Three more gone
Really hot on Thursday, nothing going on for me outside and just boring Politics on the TV inside
At least it was cool inside... No cooking projects, just a Burger and Fries for Dinner
And with a big slice of Tomato on the Burger, One more gone... and that was about it for Thursday

So what's for Friday? Run down to the Coffee House and give Lewis his Tomatoes
And then, I have an appointment finally with an ENT Doctor, see if he can fix my balance problem
No one so far had any clue to what's going on, I think the ENT guy should have been the first Doctor
If this guy can't do it... I guess it is just old age and only One way to fix that and I ain't quite ready

~ I don't Pray ~ I Spray ~ For the Bugs ~
~ More Goodies from the Garden ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Hooked up the Sprayer to do Business ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Well as I told Sigi about the Preacher and what he said when he found Termites in the Pulpit
And what might that have been? 'Let us Spray'... And that is what I did on Wednesday Morning
At 7 a.m. Wednesday, still comfy at 78 Degrees, hooked up the Hose and Sprayer and headed out to do Battle

Started at the Cucumber Bed and worked along spraying all the Plants in all the Beds
I saw a few Cucumbers in the Cucumber Bed getting some size, maybe pick more on Thursday or Friday
Then noticed two fat little Cucumbers hiding in the Vines I put in the Pepper bed, picked those

~ Two More Cute little Cukes ~

Then over to the Cantaloupe Cage. I wanted to get a catch up Photo of the first Cantaloupe I saw in there
Well that one has grown a little but Surprize! I found another about Five Inches longer! Hooray
And a new little one next to that, looks like I might get some Melons if the Bugs don't get them first

~ The First Melon I found ~ And the Surprize Wednesday ~

That was all the Morning action, and it was Sunny again and getting HOT! What else to do?
Well a run to the Fast Stop for Lottos, only won a dinky $5 Ticket
Then I decided to make Pickles, I had enough Cucumbers, one Big One, one Medium, and those two little Fat ones
A bit large for making Pickles but they would work OK, started in by mixing up the Pickle Brine
Then I sliced up all the Cukes, and some Onions, had quite a bowlful of big slices, then the Recipe saya, on with Ice and Salt
After a couple Hours I hotted up the Brine, in with the Cukes and heated just to Boiling
Then into the Jar with the sliced Cucumbers and filled it almost to the top... Oh Oh, not quite enough

Thought I could find another One out back so out into that 99 Degree heat to look
And found Two on the Plants in the Pepper Bed and Two more in the Cucumber Bed and all I needed was one
Back in to slice up one more Cuke, into the Brine to hot up and then filled the Jar... VOILA!

~ More Cukes picked Wednesday ~ Cukes in the Pickle Brine ~

Then I let the Jar cool, later rinsed it off and dried it for the Label for the Facebook Friends
Some of the people on there get a kick out of Me and my goofy Photos, so I got on the Computer and Printed one
I used two Programs, 'Photoscape' and 'Paint.net' to make the Label, can't do quite all I wanted on just One

~ El Pato's Bread and Butter Pickles ~ Like Mother Made ~

And that was about all the Day Wednesday except for the usual Afternoon and Evening... Now what's for Thursday?

~ Biggest Tomato Harvest so Far ~
~ Made Salsa Preparada Picante ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Garden 7 Poblano Pepper ~ Garden 6 Mexibell Pepper ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

First thing Tuesday Morning, a peek at the Peppers in the Inside Gardens, doing very well
At least Ten Poblanos spotted so far in Garden 7, and a couple Mexibells in Garden 6, they sneak in on me
A nice cool 76 Degrees at 7 a.m. but going to 95 in the Afternoon, no plans except to try to stay cool
My Air Conditioner did a great Job after the Fan Replacement on Monday, first AC problem in 15 years here

I saw yesterday that my Neighbor's Tomato Plant in my Tomato Bed out back had a ripe Tomato on it
Thought I would run out and pick it this Morning and put it into a Bag and hang it on her Door
She goes to work early, I don't see her much outside and I don't want to knock and maybe wake her

And so. out back, picked that single little Roma Tomato and saw lots of mine getting ready
The biggest Fat one had fallen off the Vine, and those Vines are loaded with others now... a Bumper Crop coming
So I picked the Eight most ripe ones, will have to watch them close now, and I now have a Table top full

~ Eight more great 'Better Boys' Tomatoes ~

Not quite full ripe yet but best to pick them before they split or a Varmint takes a bite, they ripen quick off the Vine
The Neighbor'e Roma Plant has two more little Tomatoes on it, one almost ready to pick

~ My Neighbor's First ripe 'Roma' Tomato ~

I had the Bag I was going to put the Neighbor's Tomato in and loaded all mine in too
I took them all back in, took out my Tomatoes, left one nice Big one in the Bag as a Gift, then took the Bag next Door
Hung the Bag on the Door Knob, heading back in I saw my transplanted Poblano in the Pot had a Pepper on it
I had to cover it from the Sun the first few Days but it has adapted now and doing better than it was inside

~ Poblano in the Pot looking Good ~ First little Pepper to Pop Up ~

Back in to edit the Photo of the Poblano then I saw my Dell Two Desktop said 'Restart Required' ...another Windows 10 Update
So I got that one going and installed on Dell Two then got it started on Dell One, then the HP...
Again, it seems like just about a new Update every Week with some slight addition

And about Mid Day, hooked up the Hose again and back out front to water everything real well, Hot Days ahead
That done, back inside to find sothing interesting to do in the Afternoon, any Cooking Projects?
Well now... I had a Box of little Red Pear Tomatoes on the Table a few Days old, not using very fast
No need for them much with all the fresh picked big home grown Tomatoes so what to do with them?
Well... make some Salsa Picante, started on that, chopped up all the little Tomatoes, added a few of mine
Then some chopped Sweet Onion, some of my inside grown Jalapeno Peppers, Garlic Salt, Cumin and Basil
Let that simmer an hour or two in the Pot, then into the Food Processor and into the Bottle
Tastes pretty good and spicy, not too hot, then let cool and into the Fridge, will be better after a few Days

~ Salsa Preparada ~ En la Botella ~

So another Margarita, more Garden Salad in the Afternoon and another big Burger with a slice of my Tomato for later
Now what? Is it Wednesday already? time do fly... Do it not? On to another Day!

~ Up and Running at 11 a.m. Monday! ~

~ Cucumbers Picked Monday ~ Garden Salad on the Way ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Monday Morning, 7 a.m. and 77 Degrees Outside and 80 degrees Inside... Something wrong here
Sunday Night wasn't too bad... No A/C but I had the Ceiling Fan running all night as usual, have to have that air
Since the A/C quit Sunday Afternoon the inside Temp has been holding at 80 Degrees, but they are saying 94 outside later
I needed to break the bad News to Boss Bob, see how long it would take to fix my Air Conditioner

And so, I needed Stamps, headed on down to the Post Office at 10 a.m. Stopped the Office to tell Boss Bob
He said he would get Tom on it, and I went on down for my Stamps and then to the Fast Stop for Lottos
Tom's Truck was in front when I got back at 10:30... He stopped in and said a Fan outside was not working
And he had one across the Street in the Work Shop, headed over to get it, started installing it

~ Tom Fixing my Air Conditioner 30 Minutes after Reporting to Boss Bob ~

I headed on back to the Gardens and picked three nice Cucumbers, he was putting the top on the A/C Unit already
Then Boss Bob came inside to see if it was working at 11:00 a.m and guess what! it WAS!
Didn't I tell you we get good Service around here? And I am first on the List

So, more Cucumbers than needed for the Moment, the big One a Perfect 'Straight Eight' the type I prefer
I like the smaller size to Marinate and put in Salads and make Pickles, the larger size has more Seeds
But they are good for about anything you want a Cucumber for, fresh and crisp and so Tasty!

And on into another slow inside Day, into the Afternoon with never ending Politics on TV
Decided to make another Garden Salad, this time with Home Made Italian Dressing, that Store Dressing gets boring
Mixed up some Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Cider Vinegar, Salt, Black Pepper, Garlic Salt, my own Basil and Oregano
Into the Fridge to meld the Flavors until Dinner Time, used my Tomato and Cucumber, added green Pepper and Sweet Onion

~ Fresh Garden Salad ~ Home Made Italian Dressing ~

On to Dinner, added some of that Fresh Italian Dressing to my Fresh Garden Salad, back to the TV to enjoy it
Garden Salad and Snacker Crackers for my Appetizer, then a Grilled Prize Burger for the Entree with my Fresh Tomato
My ideal way to end another pretty good Day, just enough activities to keep me awake all Day

And Sunday Morning and slept in until 6:30 a.m. Real lie-a-bed for a change, usually up and at 'em at 5
A peek at the Weather Forecast, a nice Day like Saturday in store but a little warmer at 94
And then they say at least the next Ten Days it will be in the high 90s, real Summer Weather in store

And the Photo of the Poblano Peppers there, took that sitting in my TV spot on Saturday Evening
The Peppers really taking off now, can see Six in the Photo but there are over Ten on there and more coming

Out into the Bright Morning Sun at 8:30 a.m. to check the Crops out back... Looking good
Looks like maybe three more Cucumbers will be ready on Monday, at least one big One
The little Cantaloupe has gained a bit of size, growing very slowly, the Vines really all over the Cage now
Amd I picked Four nice sized Tomatoes from the Tomato Bed and one from the Pot in front on the way back in

~ 'Better Boys' Tomato Harvest Count up to 15 Now ~

Then the usual, running around chasing the Rainbow, won some, lost some, finally lost them all
So what project for the Day? I had some old Slides of my California Trip, though I would copy them off
Too bad I didn't have my latest Camera back then, might have been some better Photos, but considering it was 1963...
I managed to hit most of the Hot Spots back then on that short trip of just a few Days
Pikes peak on the way out, then in Hollywood, Griffith Observatory, Grauman's Chinese Theater, Hollywood Bowl, the Pacific Cinerama
Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Hollywood Boulevard and what else, only took a few Days to run around out there
Anyway I copied off all I had and worked on editing a few of them before getting bored with that project

~ Griffith Observatory ~ Grauman's Theater ~ Hollywood Bowl ~ Pacific Cinerama ~

And then thinking way ahead to Dinner, I had all that Swiss Chard and Beet Greens stored in the Freezer
How about that with some BBQ Ribs and Cornbread, but I was out of Cornbread... So back to the Chopper for that
I got a couple Boxes of Jiffy Cornbread Muffin mix, that makes pretty good Cornbread and it's so cheap!

First then I got started on simmering the Greens, got a package out of the Freezer, I think it was Swiss Chard
It looks like, and tastes just like Beet Greens and I had both in the Freezer, but I think this was Chard
Diced some Bacon in the Pot, a little Olive Oil, then some Onions, softened them and then added the Greens to Simmer
I had the Ribs in the Oven, hotting up for later, then I mixed the Cornbread, into the Oven and was all set for Dinner

~ Swiss Chard simmering for Dinner ~

And that was about it for Sunday... Except I got a call from Kelly, my long winded Friend wth lots of unneeded advice
Also unheeded advice, he is a loser in life (My opinion) and I am a Winner... and neither need or heed another's advice
But at times he is interesting to talk too even if a bit of a nut... anyway he finally quit talking
(Loser? Well... 40 Years old, no Job, was living with his Mama, and called asking me to buy Tires for his junk Trunk... HAH!)

And then disaster struck! 95 Degrees outside and my Air Conditioner Quit... Always stuff happens on weekends here
No A/C now and the next 10 Days temps Forecast in the high 90s... First thing drop by and tell Boss Bob the Problem
They usually install a Window Unit right away and then get the A/C man to fix it, hope he does it quick
Wasn't too bad overnight, 80 degrees and I had the Ceiling Fan running... Now... off to a very warm Day!

~ Picked Tomatoes and Cucumbers ~
~ Made Pickles ~ Snipped Basil ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Backyard Garden Loot Picked Saturday Morning ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Looked like a Good Day starting out n Saturday Morning, 71 Degrees at 8 a.m. Said Partly Sunny, top of 85, Great!
Headed up the Hill to check the Cucumbers I was watching on Friday, saw two ripe Tomatoes
I picked the Tomatoes, not the best I have harvested so far but usable, then Four little Cucumbers
I have several Cucumbers in the Fridge about the same size, looks like enough for a small Jar of Pickles

On the way back in, what's that in my Tomato Pot out front? AHA! Mushrooms... they sure look good!
Would they be edible, maybe... I don't have a clue and sure not going to try to eat them

~ Mushrooms in the Tomato Pot ~ Edible? ~

So then, 9 a.m. and Computer stuff pretty much done for the Morning, thinking about those Pickles... Well let's go do it
I still had some Pickling Brine already made in the Fridge, checked on the Cucumbers, had more than I thought
So I poured it into a Pot to simmer while I sliced up the Cucumbers, then put the Cucumbers in the Brine
Let them Simmer while I heated up the Jar to put them in, then Into the Jar, topped off with Brine... Done! at 9:30 a.m.
I had enough Cucumbers for one large Jar and more for a smaller one, now... wait a week or so and try them

~ Pickles in the Brine ~ Pickles in the Jar ~

On to the rest of the Morning, chasing Rainbows and finding nothing... Another Trip to the Price Chopper for an Item
They didn't have it so next door to Walgreens and they had it on a good Sale... That fine, it's costly
What is it? Bausch+Lomb 'PreserVision Areds 2' Supposed to help prevent Macular Degeneration... Hope so

So what for the Afternoon? The Plants out front looked a little Thirsty, so I hooked up the Hose
Watered everything out front really well, filled up the Little Fountain, the Birds have been drinking from it

And then... The Genovese Basil in the pot out front had some nice big Leaves on the Plant
Haven't harvested anything from that plant since I put it out front, clipped all the big Leaves
I have plenty of Basil already dried and stored but I'll dry this and add to the rest

~ Basil to Snip ~ Basil to Dry and Store ~

And then, the Thai Basil in the Pot was all Blooms again and small Leaves, I clipped off the Blooms
Supposed to make the Basil taste better, didn't clip off any Leaves, hoping they might get bigger

~ Thai Basil ~ Snipped Blooms ~ Not Leaves ~

So that was all the action for the Day, then it was Margarita and TV Time and then Salad Time with more of my Cucumbers
And then it was Dinner Time with one of those big Lotto Prize Sausages and Gift Pasta Salad
Finally it was Bed Time and three long sessions of action Dreaming, I do more in Dreams than awake

Well now... Is it Sunday again? What can I dream up to do today? Always something it seems

~ Ever Onward and Upward! ~

~ Halfway through July ~
~ Another Nice $50 Lotto Win! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ An Ice Cream Sandwich for Diane on Facebook ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Just posting Photos of my Cookies on Facebook when my California friend Diane posted her Comment
She said they would be good for making an Ice Cream Sandwich, hadn't thought of that
And I had some Black Walnut Ice Cream, my favorite... and decided to make that Sandwich for Dessert
And that was a nice way to wrap up that long dull Thursday afternoon, posted a Photo for her of that Idea

And so, Friday is it? So soon... It was just a week ago we had the last one, anyway... out back first
I wanted to check that Cantaloupe I thought I saw on Thursday, yep, looking good so far, two days old?
And I saw that there were three more Cucumbers, might be ready to pick on Saturday

~ Looks like a nice little Cantaloupe Start ~

And then off to seek my Fortune, this time the Price Chopper again, I buy Lottos there most often
Bought my $20 worth, scratched off three losers and then WHOOOPEE! Another $50 Win, Fourth this Month!
So I had to go back and cash that one in, $30 in my pocker and $20 more for Tickets, this time only a $5 Win

~ Fourth $50 win for July, Lets go get another! ~

So, never satisfied, I still had $35 in Wins, headed to the Minit Mart for ome more try
This time, $15 worth of new Tickets, still had that $20 Win in my Pocket anyway
Back home this time to win only $10, well there's always Tomorrow (maybe)

Then I got a call from the Place that ordered the Windshield for my Mercedes, it was there, how about 1 p.m.?
So I fired it up and drove up there about 12:30 p.m. and let them have the Key, started to walk back...
The guy then asked if I wanted a Ride back, I said it's only a Mile and I am only 84... I might make it
It was a nice sunny Day, not too hot and it was breezy and nice walking back... Stopping in the shade to rest
About a third of the way, Tom, our Maintenance Man, stopped and offered a Ride... Thanks, but doing fine...
And about half way back, the Owner/Manager stopped to offer a Ride... He was headed the other way
Again, thanks but I am doing OK, need the exercise and away he went... Made it back home in 15 minutes...

OK then, nothing to do and I had that last $10 to try again so I headed back to the Price Chopper in my Blazer
On the way out Boss Bob waved me down and asked how I was going to get back for my Mercedes
I told him I would think of something, and he chewed me out and said to call him and he would take me
He thinks I am old or something, I intended to ask him anyway but I tease... Told him OK...
I told him it would be done abut 3 p.m. and since he goes hme at 3:30 usually, that would work

I needed some more stuff at the Price Chopper so I picked that up and then spent that last win on two more Tickets
And then back at el Ranchito I scratched of another $20 Win, back in Business for Saturday
The Afternoon moving on, decided to make a big fresh Salad with some of my Cucumbers and Green Onions
That little fat cuke would be just right, sliced that in a Bowl, then the Green Onions I grew fron nubbins
Next some sliced Green Pepper and finally a few small red Pear Tomatoes I picked up at the Chopper
Ranch Dressing over all and into the Fridge for Dinner later... With a Burger maybe?

~ Nice Big Fresh Salad for Friday ~

And the Finale of the Day, well almost, Dinner was the Finale... I got the call from the Glass place
Called Boss Bob, he said he would pick me up on his way Home, about 3:45 p.m. he showed up
Climbed into his Limousine type Truck, headed to Clarity Glass, picked up my Mercedes and headed home
And the view sure looked better without all those cracks crawling all over the Windshield

And then the 'Final' Finale, started on that huge Salad, got about half put away then finished with a Burger
A good finish to a good day... And then they all lived happily ever after... Now another good one?

~ An Early Check of the Gardens ~
~ Mostly a Nothing Much Day ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Enough of those Sugar Cookies for a Couple Days ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

So what's the Weather for Thursday, starting out Cool, 67 degrees but mostly Cloudy, top of 87
Not much to do in the Gardens, shouldn't need Water for a couple Days, but there was a Cucumber in back I wanted to check
So up the Hill at 7 a.m. And there were THREE... Cucumbers ready to pick, one cute little fat one
And I noticed that my Pepper Plants were leaning over... from the Rain... the Wind?
Well, I had some metal Stakes out there, used four of them to tie up the Peppers, and saw a Pepper on one of them

~ Three More Cucumbers ~

So I picked my three Cucumbers, checked all the Garden Beds, got some Photos, staked the pepper plants

~ Cucumbers in Two Beds Now ~ Pepper Plants Staked ~ Tomato Plants at 6 feet ~

~ Cantaloupes doing Great ~ Saw a tiny Melon in there ~

And then headed back in about 8 a.m. to get my non-activities started for the Day
Made my Morning run for my Lottos, would have been more profitable to stay at Home
Halfway through July and my biggest wins were three $50 Scratches so far, you sure People do win more?

Then I was Bored to the Death by Noon, when I have no projects I am at a loss how to spend all this time
After 29 Years of Vacation I sometmes run out of interesting things to do, today I have an idea though
I saw a Post by a friend on Facebook of his Photo of the Rocky Mountains, reminded me of my trip to Pikes Peak
That was in 1972 and I got a few Photos... Never did copy those slides off, might be an idea for now

And then I started my Afternoon early, Mixed my Margarita before 1 p.m. That's a rare event...
And started on Dinner Fixing early too, only had Cookies all day so far... Sliced up a couple Cucumbers
Put them in my Vinaigrette and into the Fridge for an Appetizer later, and what's for Dinner?

Sipped my Cocktail, got bored wth afternoon TV, hotted up my Dinner early and then got Sleepy too soon
And headed to Bed for a nap, woke up a couple hours later, still sleepy and went on to Bed for the long long Night

So it wasn't my 'Lost Weekend' but maybe I can call it my 'Lost Thursday', sure was pretty much a nothing Day
Anyway I made it to Friday Morning now and what for this Interesting Day ahead? Only that Slide Copy Idea so far
But let's attack the Day and see what happens... HUH?
