So now the Day before Pay Day and doing better on expenses than last Month and maybe June will be better
If for once I could only hit the Lotto 'Big One' and pay off all my acounts I wouldn't have to go to Heaven, I would be there!
So off to the Price Chopper to search for my Pot of Gold, and did find a couple Grains... a $55 Win
I had traded in a $15 Win for that so that looks like a profit of $40 don't it? Well close anyway
Back down to the other Beds, new Cantaloupe Seeds not germinating yet, ones planted earlier going slowly
Next in the Tomato Bed, one nice big Tomato in a race with one out front to see who ripens first
The Neighbor's 'Roma' doing OK in there, the Onion 'Nubs' doing good too, a few more Beets getting bigger
Then, the Pepper Bed, Swiss Chard finally beginning to show some nice Growth, Cucumbers in there Climbing the End netting
The Peppers and Eggplant not doing so great... And the Beet Tape I planted in back doing nothing yet
Last the Cucumber Bed, the Cukes doing fine, the Radishes just so-so, the Onions in there still just showing green 'hairs'
On the way back in, noticed the 'Red Stemmed' Rhubarb was ooking better than ever, more Pie son, maybe
Then, 11:30 a.m. Sun came out nice and bright, was Cloudy all morning, now if it would just stay that way and wake up my Garden
The Weather was fine for outside doings but there wasn't anything that needed doing except snipping old Rose Buds
But I wasn't in the mnood for that, would like to mow some in back but still too wet
So it was just another long Afternoon to laze around and be bored with the Politics on TV
I made a Sandwich for Lunch using a lot of My Kitchen Lettuce, will be down to one Garden Producing soon
Garden One is now empty and Garden Three soon will be, but Garden Four is still full of new Lettuce
Made some fresh Potato Salad for Dinner, then hotted up some more of those Last Smoked Ribs, very tasty stuff
Then another old Movie to finish off the Day, now off to another Doctor on Wednesday...
But first up the Hill in back to check the Crops and about the same as on Sunday, most looking good
The Water in the 'Creek' was somewhat less than the Day before and up at the Pumpkins the seepage had stopped
And the Pumpkins up there not doing much of anything since Friday, too wet I guess
Back down to the Garden Beds, I helped a few Cucumber Vines find the Trellis, they need to grow nice and straight
And the Onion 'Nubs' I planted are growing more and looking OK too, a couple Tomatoes in the Tomato Bed really looking nice
Than back in the House, on the way noticed the Sweet Potato had grown quite a bit, last I measured it was 30 Inches
So I got some Twine, went up on the Deck, tied on the Cords, then to the Trellis, showing the Vines where to go
Then it was on to a not much going on Day, heard some Thunder and it clouded up around 2 p.m.
But we only got a slight sprinkle and the Sun came out for the rest of the Afternoon
I did go back to try to win a little bit better, traded in that $15 of Wins for a $15 Win back... even up
Then it was on to Cocktail, TV, Dinner and Ta Ta and Good Night again.... On to Tuesday
Then at the Minit Mart, I filled up my Tank and went in to trade for one more $5 Ticket
And that one was a no-go... Phooey! Well, I still had a $40 Profit for the Day
Then... they said mostly Cloudy but it was Sunny Bright all Morning, so back out on that Gorgeous Day
Thought I would trot back and check my Crops again, water still running down the 'Creek' back there
First way up to check the Pumpkins, nothing much new there, except water coming out of the ground
Looks like a new Spring in the Ground up there under the Pumpkin Patch, I don't think they like all this Water
Then back down to the Garden Beds, not much to report there either, most looking OK
And as most always... No plans for Sunday but... another Project for the Afternoon... Yeah
I have been checking the Beets, I wanted to pickle some, and at the right size, you don't want them too big
I like to Pickle them whole, maybe spit the larger ones, so some looked about right so I started pulling
I felt around the Bulbs to see if they were OK, and a lot were, actually more ready than not
So, what ya think? Look at all those Greens to Freeze for later and Beets to Boil, Peel and Pickle, let's get at it
And so I got right at it... Clipped off the Greens, triple washed them them snipped them and into a Baggy
The Beet Greens into the Freezer, then mixed the Pickling Brine, Sugar, Vinegar, Salt and Pickling Spice
The Brine into a Pot to heat, the Beets into a Pot to simmer until they softened a bit, then off wih the Tops and Roots
Rubbed off the Skins and then into the Jar to wait for the Brine, when it waa boiling, poured over the Beets in the Jar... Finito!
So that was the project for the Day on Sunday, then on to the Usual afternoon and evening, find something to eat
Not hard around here, that Freezer is most always stuffed, this time took a big Burger Bun out of the Freezer
And some chunks of Rib Meat cut off the Bone to made a Sandwich, KC Masterpiece Sauce and chopped Onions on that
Some Tater Chips and a Glass of Vino Tinto and more TV and that was all for Sunday
Tried another good Grow Light, no go, so I was thinking the little 'Brain' inside was dead
Well all it does is turn the Lights and Bubbler on, then notify you when Nutrient is needed
I bypassed the Bubbler with that Air Pump, now thought I could bypass the Timer and wire it direct
Then I would have to turn the Lights on and off manually, like I do the Air Pump, but it might still produce
And that was about 10:30 a.m. and time to get the Ribs into the Smoker, fired it up, put in a Hickory Hunk
Brought the Ribs out and laid them in the Smoker... we were on the way to Memorial Day BBQ Time!
So I had an AeroGarden Project for Saturday, unplugged AeroGarden 1, looked like the Lettuce was on the way out
So I clipped it all off, put it in a Baggy for later, tossed the Pods, emptied the Grow Bowl
Then started taking the bottom off the Garden, six tiny screws, took off the bottom, yeah an Electronic Board
I clipped the Power Wires from the Electonic Board, wired them direct from the Power Cord to the Grow Light
Then soldered the connections, taped up and put the Bottom back on, plugged in the Cord... VOILA! it works!
OK then, Garden One is back in business but nothimg to plant in it for the Moment, have to think of something
And I have that big Lettuce Harvest to do something with, What? Salad or more Wilted Lettuce maybe
I'll think of something before Dinner Time, have the Lettuce I snipped on Friday still in the Fridge
And, I was thinking of Wilted Lettucs with that fresh picked Crop, and I have three Green Onions to go with it
So, I clipped off the Ends and put the Onions back in the Fridge then headed back up the Hill about 1:45 p.m.
Bright Sun and very Warm, and the Crops looking Great! I planted the Three new Nubbins behind the last Four in the Tomato Bed
Now I have Thirteen Green Onions growing back there, the Six I planted a few Days ago are really growing
Then I saw 0ne of my Cucumber Plants with its First Bloom, so Purdy doncha know, and the Garlic in front of it looking good too
Then back inside at 2 p.m. Time to take the Ribs out of the Smoker, end of Step Three, just read online about that
I have been Smokin Meats for Thirty Years or more and still learning, thought I would try the 'Three, Two, One' Method
Smoke the Ribs in the Smoker for Three Hours, Step Two, Apple Juice on top, Wrap in Foil, into the Oven for Two Hours
Then finally Step One, if you think they need it, unwrap and back in the Smoker for one more Hour
And Ribs all done about 6 p.m. Time for a Sample, Sliced off a hunk, on a Plate, boiled up some Dressing for the Lettuce
Then the hot Dressing poured over the Lettuce and Onion, the Ribs, Lettuce and a Hunk of Bread back to the TV
To then finish up 'The Battle of the Bulge' and a much better Day... Yeah!
Those Onion 'Nubbins' I planted a couple Days ago still growing nicely, I dug a furrow and planted Four more
I bet they will pop up through the Soil tomorrow... already on the way in the Baggy
On the way back in, Boss Bob stopped by for a Morning Greeting, told him about the Onion nubs
Then he saw the Tomatoes in the Pot out front, he got out of his Truck to get a photo for his wife
One there is much larger than the first 'Big Boys' Tomato Plant I planted in the Pot last year
Wehn it ripens I plan to give it to my Sanctuary Friend Lewis, he says Big Boys Tomatoes are better than Better Boys
I gave him the first 'Big Boy' Tomato from that pot last year, let him see how this one compares
While I was up there checking the Beds I saw one 'Hill' of Cantaloupes didn't look too good
At first they looked better than the other Hill, now it the other Hill looks good and the first one looks bad
So what to do about that? Still time to replant that Hill maybe... so off to Lowes for Potting Soil
And I got a new 'Snipper Tool' and Trowel, somehow I lost my other one, can't find it anywhere
OK, back at el Ranchito, filled a Bucket half full of Potting Soil, then out back to dig up the failing Plants
Dug the old Garden Soil out of the Hole and filled it back with Potting Soil, then new Seeds and back on with the Cage
Now another wait to see if that will get that Hill going again, would be nice to get a nice Cantaloupe or Ten
Turned out to be a Beautiful day after all, after planting the new Cantaloupe Seeds I decided to get a jump start on Memorial Day
So I put my Flags out front, holdng off on the Flag Fans, I want to smoke Ribs and one hangs over the Smoker
I sure don't want a Smoke smudged Flag Fan to hang out for the Holidays... Thinking of smoking the ribs Saturday
Back in for the Afternoon TV and Cocktail Break, and What's for Dinner, put out a big Lotto Prize Bratwurst to thaw
While waiting for that I unwrapped my Ribs and trimmed them of excess Fat, dusted with BBQ Rub and back in the Fridge
So later I grilled up that Big Bratwurst, on a Brat Bun with Mustard and Horseradish, some Chips and back to the TV
Then into a very long old War Movie, so long I had to flip on 'Record' and hit the sack, finish it later
Now... Satrday Morning, into the Hliday Weekend, ake tjhose ibe out to warm up to Room Temp
Then fire up the Smoker to perfume the Air for a few Hours... then the Feast! On to a GOOD DAY!
Who's runnng this Show anyway? Mother Nature gets mean at times, anyway, out into the Mist at 9:30 a.m.
And the Rain had stopped, stopped in at the Price Chopper to trade a $10 win for a $5 loser
Then across the Parking Pot to Walgreens for a Bottle of Mira-Lax the Doctor had advised. (and it works)
And then stopped on the way back for Yesterday's Mail... And hey! My Mexibell Seeds were a Day early
So today, Thursday, I can put a few into 'Grow Sponges', then into Pods and then into Garden 7 to wait and wait
And back home at 10 a.m. and then more Thunder and started Raining again, yeah Weatherman... it looks like 'Partly Sunny'
And so, next a late Breakfast and then started on my constructing my new Pepper Seed Pods, pretty simple
Stick a few Seeds in the top of a Grow Sponge, drop the Sponge into a Pod and put the Pod in the AeroGarden
And then wait wait and wait... The package says some seeds can take 3 to 4 weeks to germinate..
That's darn near a Month, aint it?... So all we have to do is wait and hope for sucess
And... Rain and Storms on and off all Day, sort of a lull around 3:30 p.m. and I headed around back
Most everything looked OK in the Garden Beds, sure got plenty of Water, just about then the Tornado Sirens went off
I kept on poking around with this and that, set another Cucumber up to climb the end Netting of the Pepper Bed
And got a Photo of the First Bloom on one of the Eggplants in that Bed... Plant looks a bit anemic though
Then over to the Tomato Bed where I planted the Green Onion 'nubs' on Tuesday, they popped up through the Soil already
And then Friday Morning I saw the nubs I had cut from my Onions I used in a Salad Thursday were already growing in the baggy
I need to get back up there and find a place to plant them today... That was it for the Inspection, headed back inside
Walked in the Door, flipped on the TV to see a TORNADO WARNING! splashed across the Screen
So then I poured a Glass of Vino Tinto and then watched Mike Thompson, Fox News 4, follow the path of the Tornado for a few Hours
Their Map showee the path of the Storm passing just North of Parkville, one Touchdown up North but no Damage reported
Then the Warning was lifted about 4:30 p.m. And on to the Evening, but the Rains and Booms continued until Bedtime
Then, with the Storms continuing on and off, back to the usual Evening... Grilled up a big Beef Burger
Had that with some of my Tomatoes and Lettuce and Store Onions with Tater Chips on the Side
Finished up an interesting Day with a little more TV and Vino Tinto and off to more Dreams...
And so... We had half a Day of Sun on Tuesday, not enough, my Gardens want some more. not today looks like
Cloudy and dry at 7 a.m. Wednesday Morning but the Forecast saying T-Storms from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
And we sure do not need more of that at this particular time... Rain Rain... Go Away!
The Mowers were up on that wet Hill Tuesday Evening but it hasn't gotten dry enough for me to trim up there
There are some areas they don't mow that I like to have mowed so I do that whenever the weather is right
And only twice has it been OK for me to drag my little Mower up there this Season
Well now, 75 Degrees at 9 a.m. Says Rain but it was cloudy Bright at the moment, still saying T-Storms
The only Indoor Gardening was to add water to some of the Gardens... Clip off the second Tomato Seedling in Garden 5
No action from the Poblano Seeds I got from the Pepper and planted, it's been 10 Days, they say 6 to 12 usually
But the Aerogarden Poblanos took a long time too... Will have new 'Mexibell' Seeds to plant Friday, maybe
Out to check the Gardens at 10:30 a.m. Sunny and 75 Degrees, didn't look like any T-Storms yet
Took a look at the Sweet Potato in the Pot, climbing like it's going somewhere now, at 30 Inches from the Pot
And about halfway up the Trellis, will have to tie some Cords from the Deck soon, five Feet higher
Checking the back beds, Cucumbers and Radishes looking good, no Onions in there yet... if ever
Now the Swiss Chrd is picking up steam in the Second Bed finally, and a Bloom on One Eggplant
Tomatoes looking great in the Third Bed, Beets almost ready to pull any Day now
On up to the Top of the Hill to check the Pumpkins, a lot more Blooms Wednesday but all Males again
Maybe the Lady Blooms are waitng for more Sunshine to Blossom, checking most every Day now
And those last Cherry Tomatoes from Garden 6 harvested on May 20th, most ready for a Sandwich or Salad on Wednesday
Wonder if I'll use the ripe ones up for either Today, Wednesday, well... depends on the Main Course... Huh?
DARN! Raining again at 12:30 p.m. And I wanted to go back and play in the Garden some more...
Tired of playing inside lately, gets so boring in such a short time, what did we ever do in Winter?
But then, Fifteen Minutes later Rain stopped and the Sun came out brighter than before HALLY LOO YAH!
So then I needed a couple things from the Price Chopper so I rolled down the Windows and headed out
Picked up a huge green Pepper, yum, then got some Paper Towels... on Sale, then some Brat Buns
Heading to the Dairy Cases I spotted Pork Spareribs on sale... nice Sale, $1.99 a pound
A Six Pound Slab of Ribs, regular Price $17.18, on Sale for $11.43... Saved $5.75... Love it!
OK, 2 p.m. and Cocktail Time, mixed a Manhattan, went out front to absorb that nice Weather and sip my Juice
Noticed a lot of expired Blooms on the Roses, back in for my Snippers and snipped a Bush full of them
Three more Bushes but they can wait, wanted to check out back... The Cucumbers first, they are 'vining' now
So I guided several Plants to the Trellis so they could climb up to catch the Sun and keep the Cukes nice and straight
Next the Pepper Bed, not much needed to be done in there... Then The Tomato Bed, Plants getting taller and needed some Tying
So back in to get my Twine, back out to tie up the Plants so they could climb the Trellis where I wanted them
And then back in to finish the Afternoon, prep for Dinner, catch up on the TV, how about Italian Sausage and Spaghetti again
I had some Marinara Sauce left from the last Spaghetti time, I thawed and grilled a Lotto Prize Italian Sausage
Plopped that into my Sauce to season and heat up, boiled some Spaghetti, then made a Salad
Used my AeroGarden Lettuce and Tomatoes, the Store bought Green Pepper and Onion and Italian Dressing
The Spaghetti on a Plate then the Sauce and Sausage, Parmesan Cheese on top, a slice of Buttered Garlic bread a Glass of Wine
And wasn't that a Dandy Dish to wind up another Dandy Day!
I can do everything on my other Dell and HP that I can do on this newer Dell, all equipped the same
But I wrote a lot of drivel yesterday and had Photos of that stuff and had those files in the dead one
So I didn't want to write all that and take those Photos over again so how you fix that?
Well real easy, all that stuff was on the SSD in that Computer, popped open the hatch, unplugged the SSD
I have a USB Adapter Cable for an SSD... So I plugged it into the other Dell and copied off the Files I needed
Then I finished my BLOG and uploaded then posted it on Facebook... and now, just use Dell One until I fix Dell Two
And then... off to another Doctor Appointment, been having 'balance' problems for some time
But they have gotten quite a bit worse in the last couple Weeks so I thought I better check on it
Waited that long time again, finally called in, the Questions and Tests from the Med Tech
Then the longer wait for the Doctor, he finally came in and he asked his Questions and ran his Tests
So now it looks like a Brain Scan and a Carotid duplex Sonograph... Then maybe some therapy he says
So, get that out of the way and maybe I can climb the Hill in back without falling in the mud... ya spose?
OK... Back to el Ranchito... And what about that Dead Computer? I called Dell to ask what a new Power Supply would Cost?
I had to go through three Agents to get to what I wanted... Finally got there, told him my Problem
But before we got to ordering a new Power Supply he wanted to run some Diagnostics... Ho Hum
So he said to do this and then do that... Said to push the black button next to the Green Light that was not lit
I pushed the Button and the Fan and green light came on... Power supply is OK he said, then I hit the Power Button..
Nothing as before, then I happened to push REAL HARD... And Voila! Computer started to boot... Problem Solved... bad Button
But then he wanted me to run a complete Diagnostic of the Computer and kept trying to sell me a Service Agreement
So I went ahead and ran it and it took forever and a Day and he patiently waited... All done and all OK
Then I had to turn down the Service Agreement, way too much Money, so Thank you and Goodbye
So I know what to do for now and it cost me nothing, I am typing this on that revived Computer now
Next.. at 3:30 p.m. headed out to the back to plant something, guess what? Hang on I'll get a photo...
Well it was still storming and a little Rain early Tuesday Morning, then started to clear up around Noon
Buy then I walked out the Door into Warm Air and Sunshine... So nice... So nice... That's more like we wanted
Took out some Trash and then out back to see what I could see, and some very nice looking Plants
I had something in my Pocket to plant, dug a little Furrow and in they went, now when do we harvest these?
Then back inside, time for a Manhattan and TV and I put out a big Hot Dog and Bun to Thaw
A good Day after all and my Number One Computer is back in Great Shape at no cost!
Who could ask for anything more? Well... I'll think of something
And, checking my 'Mexibell' Pepper order from Amazon, must be coming from a Foreign Seller
Saying Shipping Date June 10 to July 8... That just will not do... Can't waste 20 Days
Well, they have a 'Planters Seed & Spice Co "Best selection in the City for seeds" in the River Market
Maybe I will trot over there and see if they have Mexibell Seeds, they will if anyone has
And so thinking of a trip to Kansas City, I need my semi-annual PSA Test too, have a Doc Appointment June 1
I was planning to do that Tuesday but I can get my Test at the North Kansas City Hospital Lab location
And that is on the Way to the River Market area so I can get my PSA and Pepper Seeds in one trip
So I headed to North Kansas City about 10 a.m. or so, kind pf Cloudy when I set out
Then when I got to Riverside I got a few Sprinkles... then a short heavy Shower and back to sprinkles
Arived at Northland Urology and up to the 5th Floor to check my Appointment, my Card said May 31st
But on my Calender at home I had written June 1st and also had lost my Lab Order Request
Explained to the receptionist, she said yes, it is June 1st and printed out a new Lab Order... Thank you
Then I headed to the Lab about a block away, no one in the Waiting Room, I got right in
Have a seat in Room 2, she came in, checked me into the Computer and then stuck me in the Arm
They are really good at that, just a quick little stick and that's all, a Band-Aid and off to the races
Then on over to the River Market area to the Seed Place... Slow going, hard to find a Parking place
And Really messed up the 'getting around' with the new Street Car Line there, but I found a spot near the Store
A Guy asked if he could help. I said 'looking for Mexibell Peppers', he led off then handed me a packet from the Shelf
I took a quick glance, thought it said 'Mexibell' below Sweet Pepper, paid and headed home
Back home, I wanted more information about the Seeds so I checked Burpee online, said no 'Mexibell' found
HUH? Then I checked the Seed Packet.. says 'MAXIBELL', huge Sweet Peppers, that sure won't do in my AeroGarden
I should take then back and chew the guy out but 16 Miles over there and back? No way Jose
So I got online to Amazon, ordered more Seeds, this time they say Delivery May 27th, I can handle that OK
So on to the Rainy afternoon, forecast then saying T-Storms til 3 p.m. Rain til 4 p.m.
Sure put a damper on my outdoor gardening plans, at lest I didn't have to water in my new Beet Seed Tape again
But a little Indoor Gardening was Needed, the new Lettuce getting ahead of me, needed to Harvest some
So I attacked the Crop in Garden 3, lots in garden 1 comimg along too, picked enough for 'Wilted' Lettuce again
OK, harvested Lettuce resting in a Bowl of Cold Water, Green Onions Chopped and waiting in the Fridge
But then what do you do with the Root Ends you chop off? That is the next Question?
Well wait until the Rain ends and I can wade to the Back Yard, then I will show you
And so, the Rain did end... too late to do anything outside... So on to Dinner
I Put some Chicken and Cornbread in the Oven to hot up, put the Dressing for the Lettuce on to boil
When everything was ready I poured the Hot Dressing over the Lettuce and Onions, then back to the TV
As usual a plesant and tasty repast and suitable ending for a dreary Day, off to Tuesday now
Well... I didn't quite finish with the Turnip talk on Saturday, thought I would have then for Dinner then
So I snipped off all the Greens, let them soak in water as I peeled the little Turnips, the size of Radishes
Then I cut them in half and put them in a little Pot with Butter to simmer slowly with a little Salt and Pepper
Then I cut the Stems from the Leaves, sniped the Leaves in pieces and got started on my Turnip Greens
Some Bacon snipped in my big Stainless Skillet, Olive Oil, then Onions and minced Garlic, then in with the Greens to sautee
A little Salt, Fresh ground Black Pepper, a Teaspoon of Sugar and a Teaspoon of Cider Vinegar, let that simmer down
Into a Bowl to hold warm for Dinner... Then Dinner Time... Nuked up a Chicken Thigh, and Buttered Cornbread
Set those tiny Turnips on the Plate, a Bowl of Greens on the Side... Ready to Feast at the TV
The Chicken, some of the best I have Smoked, the Turnips, sweet little morsels and really good, better than big ones
And the Turnip Greens every bit as good if not better than the last Beet Greens I made.. Yeah good Dinner!
Sunday Morning, out and up the Hill to check the Pumpkins again, and no Blooms at all
The Pumpkin Plants don't look all that healthy, maybe because of all the Rain, all dry up there now
Back down to the Pepper Bed then, where I want to plant my Beet Tape, needed some weeding and spading of the Soil
Worked at that for about Twenty Minutes and then back inside to think of something to do
And something to do was get a little Breakfast, some Toast and try that new Rhubarb Sauce...
And so, I had some Buttered Multi-Grain Toast and a Dish of that Rhubarb Sauce... Quite delish!
I made Sauce Twice and Two or Three Rhubarb Pies this Season so far, this is the best Tasting thing I've done yet
And then... Back out again, this time with my Beet Seed Tape... CHARGE! I took off the Back gate and sat in the grass
Then I just worked with my Fingers... Picking out Weeds, making a Furrow, laying in the Tape, covering it witn fine Soil
All done in 15 Minutes... Then went back in for the Watering Can to 'Water In' the new Seeds
Then I went back around to the Front of the Bed to pull out some more Weeds, got to one end and almost pulled up my Garlic
Hey that ain't a Weed!... It's one of my Kookie Experiments, saw the other one at the other end then
So all the Sunday Garden Work was done about Noon-Thirty... Into the long Afternoon to do what... all out of Ideas
I guess the next wait will be for the new Beets to Germinate, the Onions never did much at all
And there are the Two Poblano Pods I am waiting to pop up in Garden 7, then put them in Garden 6 if they do
And there is a lot of new Romaine Lettuce in the Gardens I will have to start using up for this and that
Checking the AeroGardens Saturday Morning, nothing much new, new Poblanos still not Germinated in Garden 6, they take a while
The one Tomato Pod that Germinated in Garden 5 has three plants in that Pod, will have to clip Two when they get a little bigger
Then Sunny and 67 Degrees at 10 a.m. Out back to check things, about the Same as Friday, two new Pumpkin Blossoms, both Male
On the way back in, stopped to Harvest some of the Rhubarb again, the third or fourth time this Season
This time I snipped it, rinsed it and then made Sauce... No Pie, Tastes good with just Buttered Toast
I have been enjoying the View again out the Front Windows since I rehabbed the Gardens 5 and 6
Those 'Towering Tomatoes have been blocking it since January, how long until the Poblanos and New Tomatoes block it again><
Well as slow as they are starting now, looks like it will take some time yet
Warming and Sunning up, had to go back out and get some of that Gorgeous Weather
Checking the Beets again, I want to pick and pickle some Beets... But it will be another Week or so
Checked the Turnips in the back of the Pepper Bed, some cute little ones peeking at me
Well, I planted them too close to the Peppers and they were shading some of the other Plants
So big enough or not to Harvest, I pulled them all, I'll plant a Beet Seed Tape back there next
But, look at all those Green Tops, you can cook Turnip Greens too, I see what I can do with those
And I'll try those little turnips for Dinner... Buttered Turnips? Yeah tasty!
On through the rest of the Afternoon, my Manhattan TV and just kicking back, then attacking the Turnip Harvest
Clipped off all the Turnip Greens and rinsed and trimmed off the Stems, set them aside for later
Then peeled the tiny Turnips, thought I would simmer them in Butter as a side Dish with some smoked Chcken
Later some Dinner, more TV, more Wine and finally off to Dreamland... and that I did do... as usual
What now? Is it Sunday already... let's get at it
A slight shower earlier but all gone and brightening up some at 11 a.m. Time to check out back
So, Crop report for Friday... Cucumbers OK, Radishes, need some Sun, Onions, just 'hairs' where are the Onions?
Second Bed, Swiss Chard, getting there slowly, Peppers, a couple Plants have Blooms, some nice Turnips forming Bulbs
Eggplants, not doing much... Third Bed, One Tomato getting bigger, some small bulbs on the Beets
Cantaloupe Cage, growing a little, long way to go... Then on up to the Pumpkin Patch next
And another Handsome Male Blossom... Need a Beautiful Female to Pollinate with it but no go as yet
Back inside, no more to do outside on a cool cloudy Day and what to do? Getting bored again with no Project
AHA! Checking the new Golden Harvest Cherry Pods in Garden 5... One beginning to Germinate and another close behind
Ok, that gives me a Project, a little early to start on that but I always jump in ahead of time if I can
Decided to harvest the Eight Mega Cherry Tomatoes in Garden 6, some turning color already
Then clean that Garden up for the new Crop of Poblanos I hope to Germinate, put that lettuce pod in Garden 5 in there too
And so I dove into that Afternoon Project, I like having a Project to do, this one was kind of involved
And I got it all accomplished by 3 p.m. Then a Manhattan and wrote this much up for the Day
Next... On to a TV Catchup and Something prepped for Dinner and a full recap of the Friday Project on Saturday Morning... Tally HO!
So... back to el Ranchito to try to find something to do, went back to check the Pumpkins
A bright new Flower but it was a Male, no pumpkin possible there, have to keep checking
Checked the other Garden Beds but nothing new to mention so back around front
And I thought, the new Roses in Pots would look better closer to the Street, can't see them good where they were
So I moved them out front some and they do look better, I keep trying to make that Building look as good as mine
And on the way down the Driveway and back to my Place I got a Photo of everything out front there
I have been planting things over there for Years now, this year looks the best of all
And the Lady that lives in a Unit there has her Veggie Crops out front too, planted an extra Tomato in my Bed out back
And then on to a just fiddling around Day again, no other 'Breaking News' to report on my Gardens
Had that Chicken and Cornbread and Beet Greens I had planned for Wednesday and Postponed
And those 'modified' Greens, enhanced with more Fresh Picked Greens, were some better than the first try
Was just a bit too generous with the Cider Vinegar the first try, will know better next time
Now Friday Mornning, Cloudy bright out there, saying some Sun later and a little warmer... I hope
Then a nicer Saturday in store and the next week with much better Temps forecast... Great!
Then back to check the rest, Cucumbers looking Good, Second Crop of Radishes OK so far
But the Onion Seeds I planted in that Bed are sure slow coming up, just a few green 'hairs' in that row
Next Bed, Thing sort of OK there but we need a few more sunny Days I think, the Peppers and Eggplant could do better
Best looking Crop back there are the Tomatoes and Beets in the third Bed, need to snip a few more Beet Greens
The Beet Greens I already cooked were pretty tasty but I added just bit too much Vinegar
So I thought I would snip some more Leaves and Stems and add to what was left of the first Batch
So I went in back in for my Shears and a Bowl and snipped a bowlful, then headed on up the Hill
Wanted to check the Pumpkin Patch again, got that Pic of that nice Male Bloom up on top there
And then another Photo of the Rest of the Pumpkin Plants, not quite to the 'Vining' Stage yet
Then back inside to wash and rinse the Beet Greens then snip and into a Pot with Salt and Pepper and Olive Oil
I let them Sautee until wilted, then added what was left of the first batch, that should temper down the Vinegar some
I got the Beet Greens all ready for Dinner but then decided to do a Burger Instead, maybe do the Greens Thursday
All done in the Kitchen, back to the TV, news and then MOcie and then Beddy Bye time... and what DREAMS!
Sometimes I get a lot busier in my Dreams than I do in the Day Time, they wear me out...
Anyway, let's go see what happens Thursday...
And yeah... More Rain on Tuesday Morning, light but steady, RAIN GO AWAY! and what to do Today?
Well, I picked that Red Ripe Tomato in Garden 6, now Eight Green ones still on that Plant...
And... nothing much else to so, I started entering loser Lotto Draw Tickets again, I have over 4,700 Points
And I am reaching the limit of Points I can enter in a Month, maybe less than 300 more
I worked on that for maybe a half hour, then bored with that, needed something interesting to do<
So, Cooking is fun for me, what can I cook up? How about all those Sausages in the Freezer?
There are some Italian Sausages in there, maybe brown one and use it in some Spaghetti Sauce
So I started on my Famous El Gringo Maranara Sauce, would you like the Recipe for that
It seems to taste a bit dfferent every time but always super good! Here's the Recipe I concocted
Some Diced Tomatoes, some Tomato Sauce, Chopped Onions, Chopped Garlic, Salt, Black Pepper
Just a little Sugar... Some Oregano, some Basil, a little Cumin... What else?
Sautee the Onions a little in Olive Oil, then add the Tomatoes and Sauce, the Onions and Garlic
Then the Spices, last the browned Sausage and let that simmer on low for quite while
At Dinner Time, boil up some Spaghetti, put that Sausage on top and pour on the Sauce...
Some grated Parmesan Cheese over all and VOILA! Super Spaghetti!
While I was Chopping Onions and Garlic I saw these two cloves wth a Sprout on top, hmmmmm
Wonder if I can plant them and get more free Garlic... Doesn't cost much anyway but free is good
I read online about planting Garlic, says OK but don't use Store Garlic... and leave on the papery Husk
Well I'll take a chance on the Store Garlic and I already took off the Husk, planted them anyway in the Pepper Bed
Then the Morning Rain had stopped and Sun peeped out some after 3 p.m. Nice to see that brighter Weather
And then a Phone Call... From Pat my Friend and Neighbor, "Are you receiving Guests this afternoon", "Why Shore"
Twenty Minutes later here she came down the Hill and bearing Home Baked Goodies
A loaf of her Home Baked 'Strawberry Bread' made with her Home Grown Strawberries, that's Breakfast for Wednesday!
Then a Dos Equis Cervesa for She and a Manhattan for Me and a pleasant afternoon Visit
Catching up on the News, Politics, TV, Music, Smart Phones, Computers, and Photos and Web Pages... Yeah
On to past 4 p,m, and she headed back up the Hill to her Manse and Menagerie and Evening
And I to the Kitchen to dish up some of that Spaghetti to finish off another 'at least half' nice Day
It is Wednesday now? I hope it is a Sunnier and Warmer Day, we have had enough of wet and gloom for a good while
I headed this time to the Minit Mart and came home with only a $5 Win, now what to on this drab Day
And bored out of my Gourd at 8 a.m. Oh Woe is me with an active Mind and nothing to do that I want to do
And it rained lightly all day, about all I could find to do was to enter loser Missouri Lotto Draw Tickets
Rion, a Clerk at the Price Chopper gives me old Loser Tickets that people try to cash in
You can check if they are Winners on a Reader there at the Counter but some are too dumb to do that
They hand their unchecked Tickets to the Clerk and waste his time with him checking them
Anyway... got tired of that, just piddled around all day doing this and that and the other
On into the Afternoon and I mixed a Manhattan around 2 p.m. Sipping that and Catching up on the non-News
Was watching TV and then saw the Mail Truck across the Street, Hah! My Tomato Pods should be here
So I finished my Cocktail and headed up to the Mail Boxes about 3 p.m. Checked my Box.. NO SEEDS!
Then I checked Amazon online, said 'Delivered, Left In Mail Box'... So what Now? DAYUM!
Well I headed on to the Post Office, waited patiently in Line, told the Clerk my Problem
He said he would get the Supervisor, waited some more, out she came, I explained my Problem
What's the Tracking Number? I showed her on my Phone, just a minute she says and disappeared
Back again, she said yes, the Man had a package for me and he would be back at my Box in Ten Minutes
So back to the Ranch, I waited by the Mailbox and he showed up right on time, out to check the Boxes
Says you are 9014...right? Yeah, Oh here it is in 9016, the Box below mine, he was quite apologetic
Handed me the package, ssid 'Sorry' and shook my hand, "No Problema Grande' I says, he is a nice old Guy and off I went
And then back down the Hill, opened the Box, stuck the Pods in Garden 5 and that was the big Garden Event of the Day
Now Most everything is up to Date in the AeroGardens, everything planted for Now... One experiment pending
Have Twelve Pods of Lettuce Growing in the Kitchen, One producing in Garden 6 and one growing in Garden 5
The Poblano Peppers now growing in Garden 6, Golden Cherry Tomatoes just starting in Garden 5
Well, then on to Dinner later, and another Experiment, I stuffed that Poblano Pepper I bought for the Seeds
Used one of my Lotto Prize Sausages, browned the Meat, Stuffed the skinned Pepper, added some Parmesan Cheese
Roasted that in the Oven Thirty Minutes or so... and it was quite spicy and surprizingly Tasty... Yeah!
Still all wet out there... Oh well... off to Bed again
And as I said Saturday, all my Lettuce pods now working in the Kitchen Gardens plus two Pods in the Living Room
One is the leftover Pod in Garden 7... And yesterday I put the revived failed Pod into Garden 5
That is where I will plant the new Golden Cherry Tomatoes on Monday, it will take some time for them to catch up
I should be able to Harvest Lettuce there until the Tomatoes get big enough to shade the Lettuce
That makes a total of 14 Lettuce Pods producing... That should be way more than enough for awhile
And then my Experiment with my Poblano Seeds, the Pods from AeroGarden are growing now in Garden 7
I seeded two Pods and put them in Garden 7 to see if they will germinate in a Week or so... and then...
The Mega Tomato Cherries are waning some now, if the Poblano Experiment works, I'll take out the Mega Tomato Plants
And plant the two Pods I seeded in that Garden, then maybe I'll have Four Poblano Pepper Plants
I took a walk back to check the Gardens, looking OK, a few really tiny Onion Sprouts now showing up
Then the trek to the top of the Hill to check the Pumpkins, doing OK and two more Mail Blooms
Looks like they are planning to 'Vine' but not quite yet, when they do I'll have to make little Cages
When a Female Bloom shows up on a Vine (if ever) I'll cover it to keep the Deer off
And I got a little Visa Reward Card from AT&T for $10.00, not sure what for, but I needed a couple things
So I headed to the Price Chopper, bought stuff for $9.95... Got 5 Cents left... Then I got my Lottos
Only won a $3 Ticket but I wanted to play some more, bought Three $3 tickets and won $10 back
So I took that $10 back and bought Two $5 Tickets and another $3 Ticket, this time won $10 on the $3 Ticket
And a nice $50 Win on one of the $5 Tickets, so a nice Profit for the Day and the way I like to play the Game
And that was just about it for anther OK Day except the Weather could have been a little warmer
The usual afternoon and Evening routine then... and a Movie and off to bed... now see what a new Monday will bring
Ever since I haven't had to head to work every Monday now I like that Day best, get that draggy Weekend out of the Way
Get things going again, get the Crowds out of the Stores and the Mail delivered... and I am expecting a package on Monday... Yay!
So, I'll post this diatribe and pour my Coffee and work an online Crossword... Let's get at it
Then... I checked on my new Crop of Poblano Peppers, only one Pod Germinated... I was about ready to call for replacement
But EUREKA! It is finally emerging after 17 Days of anticipation... Label says Germinates in 7 to 12 Days
Now just have to watch that the Lettuce I left in that Garden does not shade the little Poblano Plants
And again, more success, the last Lettuce Pod I planted in Garden 4 just coming up, replaced one failed Pod
I harvested a lot of Leaves from Garden 7 on Saturday, now in a Bag in the Fridge to keep a little while
I'll have to use it up in Sandwiches before it starts to wilt, doesn't last long in the Fridge
Now I have Twelve Lettuce Pods working with Romaine Lettuce in Gardens 1, 3 and 4, should be way more than enough
The Morning was moving along fast, had Brunch instead of Breakfast, made a Sandwich with some of that Lettuce
Nice and Crisp after a night in the Fridge, more in there and more growing every Day now
And then, a chilly Day outside but I decided to trim the Weeds around my Garden Beds out back
Hooked up my Electric Trimmer and got with it, all done quickly, maybe twenty minutes or so?
Checked the Beets then, and some bulbs forming and lots of Leaves, well they are edible too
I went in for my big stainless steel Bowl and my Kitchen Shears, snipped a bowlful of leaves
Took those back inside, set it in the Sink and filled with fresh Water to rinse, now I needed Bacon
Back to the Price Chopper for Bacon, on Sale of course... Some Sweet Onions and Garlic too
Then set that aside and mixed my Margarita and a long afernoon of TV again
Later time to get those Beets Greens going, rinsed again then out on a Towel to drain some
Then snipped the Beet Stems and Leaves, sliced Onions, chopped Garlic, snipped the Bacon and into the pan to Crisp
Next the Onions, then the Garlic, and then the Beet Greens, Salt, Red Pepper Flakes, Sugar and Vinegar
And let that sautee slowly for a half hour or so on low heat, looking good then
Dinner Time, Nuked up a Smoked Chicken Leg, and some Buttered Cornbread, a dish of those Greens, a Glass of Vino Tinto
Then back to the TV to enjoy my Feast with a Movie... And GOOD! Did Mom ever make Greens? I can only remember Spinach
Anyway, the Greens were excellent, and more to cook when I harvest the Beets, don't throw away those beet Tops!
Even the ones you buy at the Store, if the Tops are fresh enough, snip them and cook them, good and good for you!
Now Sunday? What are we gonna do on another Sunday? Lemme get at it, I'll find something
