~ You are my Sunshine ~

The other night dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken, so I hung my head and cried

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away

So let the sun shine in, face it with a grin... Smilers never lose and frowners never win
So let the sun shine in, face it with a grin, open up your heart and let the sun shine in

My mommy told me something That little girls should know
It's all about the devil and I've learned to hate him so
I know he'll be unhappy cause I'll never wear a frown
Maybe if we keep on smiling He'll get tired of hangin' round

So let the sun shine in, face it with a grin... Smilers never lose and frowners never win
So let the sun shine in, face it with a grin, open up your heart and let the sun shine in

So let the sun shine in, face it with a grin... Smilers never lose and frowners never win
So let the sun shine in, face it with a grin, open up your heart and let the sun shine in

~ Great Weather Day Again! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Waiting for the Eye Doctor ~ That's not Me Sigi ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Off to see Susan at 8 am. and in dense FOG out there... But I made it again in good time, too good 15 Minutes early
So the usual Sign In and wait, then the Eye Check and wait again for the real Doctor... the Oothalmogist
Anyone can run the Eye Test Machine, but I wanted to see the one that can fix your Eyes if they are broke
She is the one that operated on my Eyelids and Cataracts then stuck in the Implants which fixed most everything

So another wait and I was ushered into Rer room, another Clerk first catching up the Computer Records
Then Doctor Susan came in, more checking around, a new Lens prescription and back out into the Fog

And foggier still, she diluted my Eyses then... hard to see for half a day after... But the Fog actually helped some
Bright sun popping out when I got back to Parkville and warming fast, needed to get out in that
Set a few Plants out Front for the Sun first, hope the sun is not too strong for them yet
Three more Pumpkin Seedlings popped up, now 9 Seedlings in there, Sweet Potato growing nicely too
Then a late Breakfast, took a few Tools and headed out back around Noon at 57 Degrees...

~ Pumpkins ~ Sweet Tater, Swiss Chard and more Chard ~ ~

Only 63 Degrees and in a T-Shirt but that bright Sun warmed me up, had some Netting to staple on the Cucumber Bed
Got that finished and that was enough for the First time, maybe out later, back in to rest up for the Next attempt

But that was the last outing, thought about going back to finish that Netting but felt better inside
And Garden time outside is getting closer but still plenty of time to finish a few things
So I was doing a little research on planting times online... Now some doubts emerge
I was lookig at PUmpkins and they said that they do not taske well to transplanting seedlings
And that is what I was planning... Well I'll try anyway... I can direct sow later if it doesn't work...
I didn't see much about transplanting Cucumbers either and I am planning Seed Starting for those too

Anyway again that was about it for Monday, a not very productive Day but ya can't win 'em all
So what on Tuesday? Missouri Primary Day and I'll head down this Morning sometime to save the World
Not much hope for doing that but I'll do what I can while I can... Off I go again...

~ The PUMPKINS are Coming! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ The First Pumpkin Popped up Friday ~ And More Saturday and Sunday ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Cool and Damp and Cloudy on Sunday Morning... I want some SUN! So do the Crops, maybe later in the Day
I didn't post that Photo of the First Pumpkin to pop up Friday, more on Saturday and more today
I hope we can get some Weather warm enough to put them outside before they get too spindly
Pumpkins like it warm and Sunny... and no Deer to eat the new Plants

Then out in that Cloudy cool Day to go out back to check the Radishes and they are growing every Day
Like to have some Sun to see what they do, I didn't get much of a Crop last year, hoping for better
And I do like those big white Icicle Radishes.. yum... the Price Chopper didn't have any last year

~ Back out to check the Radishes ~ Looking Good! ~

And Checking that Sweet Potato on the Kitchen Table... Is that a Sprout there I see, have to keep an eye on that
I want to get it back into the Pot soon... And with that... that was about it for the Gardening for Sunday

~ Sweet Potato may have a Sprout Starting ~

So it warmed up a little, the Sun almost shining... Out front about 1 p.m. to tackle that mess next Door
So I spent somer tme Snipping underlayment and raking Pebbles and got it looking some better
But really almost all the front area of the Unit needs another load of Pebbles to spread around

~ Needed to Rake the Pebbles from under the Underlayment ~ Then spread back on Top ~

~ Then after about 25 Minutes on Sunday ~ Looking a bit Better ~

Then again to the Afternoon, more Politics on TV, getting a bit tiresome... Where's the World News?
Nothing special the rest of the Day... the usual winding down, finishng off with more Corned Beef and Cabbage
What for Monday now? First thing off to the Opthalmologist to see Susan and get my eyes checked
And then who knows what the rest of the Day will bring... So we shall see...

~ More Activity again Saturday ~
~ Had to rehang my Gazebo Feeder ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ My Bad? ~ The Gazebo Feeder on the Ground after Hanging it on Thursday ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Well maybe I could have fastened the Hook better on the Limb... But I think there was help knocking it down
Either a Squirrel tried to climb out on it to feed or the Wind was strong enough to blow it off
A Squirrel did knock it off once before but I thought I had that problem fixed last Year
So this time it also broke a piece out of the Roof of the Feeder, had to fix that
Then wired the Hook on better and rehung the Feeder.. better luck this time?

Next around back to check on the Radishes, yeah had a little Rain, that should help
And a lot more Radish pop-ups showing and with more Green on Saturday Morning

~ Radishes popping up on Friday ~ And More on Saturday ~

Then a look at my next Landscape Project next door, I had that looking good a couple Years ago
But the Wind and Rain and People wakling on the Yard messed it up, thought I would fix it some
I pulled the Underlayment back yesterday and raked some pebbles before I saw Pat coming down the hill
So I postoned that, thought I would get back on Saturday but it was misting Rain after I hung the Feeder back up

~ Need to Rake the Pebbles from under the Underlayment ~ Then spread back on Top ~

So, stuck inside and kinda boring again, what else can I mess with? What about that Sweet Potato
Not the way to do it but I just put the whole thing into a Pot, then another one on the Table sprouted
So I cut 1/3rd off that one and planted it, looks like it's doing OK, but the first one doing nothing yet
So I took the first one to the kitchen, took it out of the Pot, little Roots all over it but no Sprouts
So I am just going to let it sit in the pan and see if I get a Sprout, if I do I'll repot it

~ Experimenting again with a previous Experiment ~

And, already it looks like removing that Jalapeno Plant is helping the Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes
The top Leaves are spreading and growing, Blooms all over and lots of tiny Tomatoes popping up
So, next time I plant... only Two of the large growing plants will go in those 7 Pod Beds
You can plant 7 pods of Herbs and Lettuce but just not enough room for the really big Plants

~ New Blooms and tiny Heirloom Tomatoes in Garden 5 ~

Then how about a peek at the Mega Toms in Garden 6, two getting some Color and lots getting bigger every Day
When I plant Tomatoes again, these are the one I will go with, so far growing faster and I like those larger Tomatoes
I hope they taste as good as they are looking now... Maybe Harvest those two next Week?

~ Mega Cherry Tomatoes ripenng in Garden 6 ~

And that was just about it for Saturday, what for today (Sunday) besides setting Clocks?
Well, Cloudy and kinda cool at 55 Degrees at 7 a.m. But going to Partly Sunny and 67 Degrees
Maybe I'll get next door again and do some Landscape rehab on that eyesore there... TALLY HO! We're off!

~ Celebrating Saint Patrick's Day Early ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ My First Saint Patrick's Day Dinner on Thursday ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Who waits for the Day? I get the Specialty on Sale as soon as they put on the Price Tag
Make the Hoiday last a few more Days, Corned Beef on St. Pat's Day, Ham on Easter, BBQ on Memorial Day
More BBQ on Independence Day, and whatever for Labor Day... Turkey on T-Day and Fruitcake for Christmas... Happy Holidays!

And it sure was a busy day around here on Thursday, the Complex Guys working upstairs and me working out front
I gave up outside around 4 p.m. and started my inside Afternoon and Evening, good eats ahead
Put my Potatoes, Carrots and Cabbage into the pot with some of the Corned Beef Cooking Broth
Let that simmer some, then on to the Plate, some Mustard on the Corned Beef, Butter on the Home Baked Rye Bread
Back to the TV to sample that Feast with another Glass of Vino Tinto, yeah we eat Good around here!

OK then on Friday, the usual Morning runaround getting started on the Day, first a peek at the Tomatoes
Finally a couple more tiny 'Heirloom' Cherry Tomatoes in Garden 5, it took long enough
But those two Plants were shaded and crowded by the faster growing Jalapeno Plant... Now gone
The 'Mega' Cherry Tomatoes in Garden 6 have done a lot better, only the two Plants in that Garden
The Tomato/Jalapeno pod Kit comes with those three Plants that were in Garden 5, I planted them as they said
I won't try that again, just two Tomato or Pepper Plants per Garden and no more 'Heirloom' Tomatoes
The 'Megas' were planted 19 Days after the 'Heirlooms' and have done much better, I'll stick with those

~ 'Heirlooms' planted in Garden 5 ~ Nineteen Days before the 'Megas' in Garden 6 ~

I needed a few Housekeeping and Grocery Items and decided to run up to Walmart for those
They have some good prices on some of that Stuff, even better than the Price Chopper... so away I went
I got my Cartful and headed out, just at the end of the Parking Lot a guy waved me down, hey I need a jump
So for my good deed of the Day I pulled beside him, he hooked up and got started and was very grateful
Well, I helped the old guy at Lowes lift his heavy Bag into his Car a few days ago... Might as well help when you can

So I got a call from Pat on the way to Walmart, said she wanted to drop by to check on things that afternoon
OK, see ya then and back home to unload and start playing with Gardens and stuff... Like... look at that Lettuce again.. WOW!
Again after the last Harvest it came back stronger that ever, needed to snip that again

~ Another big Garden 7 Lettuce Crop ~ Snipped and ready to Wilt for Dinner ~

So then back outside, took some garden trash off the porch to the Dumpster, then saw my Neighbor outside
Walked down there to check the stuff I planted out front last year and chat a bit, he asked for a Favor
He wanted a ride to the Garage to take his Tire in for repair, I said I could after my Friend showed up

Back up to my place to wait for Pat, took a walk out back, saw my Radishes beginning pop up already
On the way in I saw some exposed underlaynent next door, started on fixing that with my Rake
Then saw Pat coming down the Hill, when she got here I said come on back, want to show you something
I says lookee there at them there Radishes, just planted Monday, up in three days!

~ Radishes on Friday ~ I'll check again Today, Saturday ~

After getting a quick Photo, back inside for a Margarita for me and a Negro Modelo Cervesa for Pat
And into a pleasant afternoon of TV, Computer stuff and general Chat, we never stop talking
A knock on the door later, the Guy next door had his tire off and ready... Excuse me a few Minutes
Pat watched some more TV while I ran the Neighbor to the Shop, they said couldn't be repaired, back home then
So, no success on that but another Good Deed for the Day and we resumed our chat meeting
So then more looking around with the Computer Screen on the TV and more chat and then Pat had to go tend her Animal Family

And for me the late Afternoon and Evening wind down, another busy Day and good Deeds and good Chat... Nice!
Off to another good Day for Friday, the Day I win the BIG ONE... (yeah)

~ More Wednesday Comment ~ Another Busy Day Thursday ~
~ Pot Cleaning Out Time ~ And other Stuff ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ The End of the Jalapeno Harvest ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

A few more comments I did not make on Wednesday's Drivel report... The Jalapeno plant is Gone!
It was a really busy Day and I got a lot done and some I didn't get on the Page.... and so
At TV time and while my Corned Beef was Crock Potting I checked out the indoor Gardens
There was one large Jalapeno on the Plant and six smaller ones and I popped off the Big one
And Noticed that plant was crowding and Shading the two Tomato plants in there, they weren't doing much

So, I have plenty of Jalapenos in the Fridge so I decided to remove that Jalapeno Plant from the Garden
I sawed off the thick Stem and took the plant off the Garden and picked off the last 6 Jalapenos

~ The End of the Garden 5 Jalapeno Plant ~

Then I tied up the Tomato plants that were being shaded and crowded by the larger Jalapeno Plant
There are a lot of Blooms on those plants, only picked off three small Tomatoes so far, now maybe more
Then I took the Seven Jalapenos, pickled them and added to the Jar in the Fridge, have plenty for now

And then what else? Well that Corned Beef, the Crock Pot finally finished, too late for a St. Pat's Dinner
I already had another Dinner working, maybe do that CB&C Dinner for Thursday... no hurry...
Now the Corned Beef is waiting for that in the Fridge... and I now think that was all of that busy Wednesday

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Now on to Thursday, what Adventure awaits, what good Fortune is in store? Always looking 'Onward and Upward'
Off to see the Lotto... Won nothing... Back homwe for a little Breakfast... Now what?
Put the Dishes in the Dishwasher, started that up... a little Water in Garden 6, bored at 10 a.m.
Then decided to slice up the Corned Beef, some for Dinner and the rest to store in the Freezer for later
Then I peeled up a Potato and a couple Carrots, sliced off a wedge of Cabbage, into a Baggy and in the Fridge
Put out some Rye Bread to thaw with all that for my first St Pat's Dinner Thursday Evening

Still bored at 11 a.m. and headed out on the Veranda into 60 Degrees and Sunny, took the Trash up to the Dumpster
Then... look at all those Pots full of Canna Roots, needed to do something about that, where's my Trowel?
So I started in, I thought I would get more Cannas for this Year... But after digging in those Roots, not so sure
The Roots had formed one big ball and Corms and hard to dig out from the Top, I flipped over the Pot
Then I dumped the Soil from around the Roots and Corms and dug out the Soil to put in an empty Pot
I got one big Pot finished and started on another, came in for a Break then a little after 12 Noon

~ Working on those Canna Pots ~ And Now all Cleaned Out ~

Back out for another Try, got all the Canna Pots cleaned out, and into a busy afternoon, but taking it easy
The Complex guys were here working on the Unit above me, some chat with Boss Bob, Tom and the Painter
Makes things go easy with someone to say Hi to now and then, back to the Out Front Chores then
Oh yes, that one big Pot I just cleaned out... Going to put my new Sweet Potato Seedlings in there
I filled the pot up with Soil. stuck the Trellis in, npw the Sweet Potato when it is time to Plant

~ Sweet Potato Vine July 2014 ~ Watch for this One! ~

OK, Next project... They cut the Limbs off the Tree where I hung my Bird Feeders and Brdhouse, need to fix that
I got my little Ladder out, found the Stake I used for my Tomato Plant in the Pot last year
Found a place I could use to prop up the Stake in the Tree from side to side, cut it to length, up the Ladder to tie it in
Then I hung the Feeder Gazebo, filled it sith Seed, then hung the two empty Hummingbird Feeders
No need to fill them now, the Hummingbirds don't show up until around April 15th here

~ New Branch added ~ Gazebo Feeder and Hummingbird Feeders ~

One project left, that big Bird House for the other Tree, just for looks, the Birds haven't used it much
Out with my little ladder, hung a wire Hook in the Tree, hung on the Bird House, that's enough outside work for Thursday

~ Big Bird House in the Tree Next Door ~ Ready for Visitors ~

And then I adjourned the Projects of the Day and on to my usual Routine for the Afternoon and Evening
I mixed a Margarita, then off to the TV and Kitchen and Bedtime, I'll post this on Friday Morning
And resume the rest of Thurdays Evening then... And now... off to the new Day

~ Ever Onward and Upward! ~

~ New Pods Planted in Garden 4 ~
~ A Sweet Potato Planted in a Pot ~

~ Harvested the rest of the Swiss Chard ~ Planted Chives, Oregano and Thyme ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Started the Gardening out early on Wednesday... Garden 6 wanted Water... Basil touching the Light again... Needs Clipping
All the big Swiss Chard Stems had been snipped in Garden 4 so I snipped the rest and planted three new Pods
When I went to the Kitchen for the new Seed Pods I noticed the Sweet Potato on the Table had sprouted
The one that I had planted in a Pot earlier hasn't done anything I can see yet, but will I think...
So I cut off 1/3rd of the Potato and planted it, the rest looked fine, I wrapped it and will bake it later

~ Sweet Potato Sprouting ~ Planted in a Pot Wednesday ~

I am in a hurry to start my Cucumbers in the Seed Starting Kit that came with Pat's replacement Aerogarden
I will plant that Kit in Garden 3 after I take the Thai Basil out, plannng to plant the Kit on March 20
They say do not transplant in the Ground until two weeks afer the last Frost (March 31), I hate to wait that long

~ Aerogarden Seed Starting Kit ~

Did someone say Saint Patrick's Day? Oh yeah, that's when Corned Beef goes on Sale... Let's go get one
Off to the Price Chopper, we need some Cabbage, Carrots and Onions, then back to the Meat Counter
'Boyle's Famous Kansas City Corned Beef' on sale for $4.99 a Pound, best ever but expensive too
Well, maybe we can make do wth that other kind for $2.99 a Pound, looks pretty good

~ Corned Beef Time Again ~

And back home to unload and plug in the Crock Pot, a little Water in the Crock Pot, then the Corned Beef
Spread the Seasoning Packet over the Top, set it on High and away we go for about Six Hours

~ Soil Project for Wednesday ~ View from my Garden Bench ~

And then, we start on the Garden Soil renewal again, Sunny and around 60 Degrees, very nice
Just one Bed to finish, the Pepper/Eggplant Bed, had some weeds growing and Compost to till under
So I took off the back Gate and started there, tilling was easy, the Soil was real loose, raked it smooth
Then around front, same thing rake out the Weeds, till the Compost under, rake it smooth

Next add the new Soil, I set that heavy bag upright but couldn't lift it into the Bed
So I layed it down flat, slit it down the middle and used the Shovel to start tossing it into the Bed
Halfway through, Owner/Manager Boss Bob yelled from the Window in the Unit above mine where he was working
Says 'What are you doing in my Garden Bed'... 'Not much I says, slow going'... 'You want some Help?'
I said no but he said he would be out in a sec... He came back, grabbed the rest of the Bag and tossed it in the Bed
Then some Chat, he went back in and I finished raking the new Soil nice and smooth, looks great now

~ Soil Project Completed for this Year ~

And then that was that for the outside work, back inside to finish out the rest of the Afternoon and Evening
Some more Kitchen and Indoor Gardening doings... but I'll post this much and catch that up on the next Diatribe

~ Planted Pat's Gift Radishes on Monday ~
~ Planted Beets and Pumpkins on Tuesday? ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ A Garden Gift from Pat ~ My Favorite White Radishes ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The last thing I did on Monday Afternoon was to trot back up the Hill to plant Pat's Radishes
Seems a bit early but those in the know say you can plant them three weeks before the last Frost
And here in North Missouri that is usally March 31... And so, they are planted
What for Tuesday... Maybe get that Pepper and Eggplant Bed tilled and topped with new Soil

But first off to the Price Chopper for my Lottos and came back to scratch off $40, best in several Days
Then a sumptious Breakfast of a cocoction of leftover Mashed Potato, with Ham, Eggs and Onion
And some of those Jalapeno Pickled Mighty Mini Tomatoes I had in the fridge, quite tangy!
In whole a rather surprisingly good Breakfast with simple ingredients and so easy to do

And then what for the Rest of the Day, Cloudy and glum but warm in the 60s, off to Lowes again
I wanted to get my Beets and Pumpkins started, some Swiss Chard for later, headed there for Seeds
Picked up those and then selected a new Hummingbird Feeder, my old one got moldy and I tossed it

~ Beets ~ Pumpkin ~ Swiss Chard for my 2016 Crops ~

And next? 66 Degrees at 1 p.m. Let's go plant Beets, back to the Hill to plant that Beet Packet of Seeds
I won't plant Tomatoes in there until April, so those Beets go in the Front part of the Tomato Bed
I have the Radishes planted in the Cucumber Bed, after Harvesting them.. in goes the Swiss Chard

~ Beets in the Tomato Bed in 2012 ~

Back inside to mix a Margarita and plant the Pumpkins in the little pots, they say to soak the Seeds first
So I had set the Seeds in a little water, dumped it when I came in and then Planted the Seeds in the Pots
Now the countdown... When will we see the first Pumpkin Seedlings pop up?

~ Pumpkins Planted ~ Keep an Eye on These ~

And then back to the Indoor Gardens, a few more Swiss Chard stems to clip, I did that... now enough to Saute for Dinner
The Plants are still growing some but not many new Stems and a new Crop will take over soon in that Garden

~ Swiss Chard Harvested from February 20 to March 01 ~ And Frozen ~

So how do I saute Swiss Chard... The way I do most Greens, a little Butter and Olive Oil in the Skillet
Add some diced Bacon or Ham, sliced Onions, simmer that a bit to soften, add the Chard, Salt and Pepper, a tad of Vinegar
And in just a few Minutes some tasty and healthful Greens from my own Inside Garden... Whooopeee!
Add a Grilled Pork Chop to that, a Baked Potato... Oh yeah... another Dandy Dish to set before the King!

~ Swiss Card out of the Freezer ~ And Sauteed for Dinner on March 08 ~

Well now, that Dish of Swiss Chard doesn't look all that delish but greens all look about the same after Sauteeing
And a lot of different types of Greens just about all taste like Greens, but I do like some better than others
Swiss Chard is actually a 'Beet' but without a Bulb, just eat the Leaves and Stems and kind of like 'Beet Greens' too
They call Swiss Chard 'Summer Spinach'... Spinach grows best only in Spring but Swiss Chard grows all Summer long
But guess what, last night.. the first biyt of that Chard and my taste says SPINACH! Tasted just like it

Well that's more than enough of Tuesday's Gardening, what's happening Wednesday? Let's get at it

~ Ever Onward and Upward! ~

~ Dumped the New Soil in the Garden Beds ~
~ Spring is slipping in Early ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Ready to Dump New Soil in the Garden Beds ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another nice Day ahead Monday, 67 Degrees to start and going to 70 later, more Gardening Time
I had done some fixing on the Cucumber Bed on Sunday, didn't try to add the new Soil after that
So that was the order of the Day on Monday, I backed the Blazer up the Parking Area next Door
That gave a level way to Cart the Soil to the back to the new Garden Site without the Hill on the other side
And those Bags were way too heavy for me, but I has wrestled one bag into the Cart and toted it back
Before I got back for the next one Tom, the Maintence man working next Door, came out to carry them back for me
I couldn't even lift one but he carried three of them back to the Beds in his arms for me like a baby
Do I get good service at thie Complex or what!

So, I started on the Bag I had toted around to the Cucumber Bed, the smallest, I just slit the Bag
Then pulled the Bag from under the Soil then shoveled it into the Bed, raked it smooth, now all ready to plant
I'll plant Pat's Radishes first, they are an early Crop, have to warm up some before planting the Cucumbers

Then over to again wrestle a Bag in front of the Tomato Bed, tilt it in, slit the top and dump in the Soil
I thought it would take two Bags there but one filled it nicely... Then raked smoothed and ready to plant
Again way too early for the Tomatoes, have to decide what early Crop to plant there

~ Cucumber Bed ~ Ready to plant my Radishes in Front ~ Tomato Bed ~ What to Plant in Front Here? ~

Then the third Pepper Bed, that one needs to have the Compost that Pat brought tilled under, then add the Soil
That will be a project all by itself and can wait until I get all rested up
I usually have planted my Jalapenos, Sweet Peppers and Eggplants in that one

The last Bed, where I usually plant Peppers and Eggplants still had Compost layng on top and needed to be Tilled under
And I had enough already, getting the other two beds in shape.. That's a project for later, maybe Tuesday
So I suspended my outside Projects for the Day, back inside for a pleasant Afternoon and Evening
Spring is now creeping in with more things to get ready every Day... But these busy Day are fun

~ Working Outside on the Gardens Again ~
~ New Soil for the Garden Beds ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ More Soil headed to the Pots and Garden Beds ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another nice weather forecast but first, up to the Price Chopper for Lottos and only won $5
Back home for a late Breakfast and then off to Lowes Garden Center for Soil and Pots
Pat had been there earlier and said they had some nice big Pots on a good sale, wanted to check that out
They have a couple hundred kinds and Colors of Pots, finally way in the back I saw the ones she mentioned
Nice Pots for a nice Price but bigger than I wanted and I didn't like the bright Colors
So I kept looking, found some about the right size, good price, not to happy with those Colors either
So the Dark Purple or the Dark Blue? I chose a couple dark Blue ones, then off to get the Soil
I asked the Clerk if I could get some help loading, they were BIG Bags, she said for sure
So I bought Four big Bags of Scotts Garden Soil and Two big Bags of Scotts Potting soil
Then this BIG strong guy laaded them on a Cart and trundled them to my Blazer and flipped them in the back
Looked easy enough for him... But then I am older than Dirt and not up to lifting 40 Pound Bags of Soil

Back home, backed up to the Curb, got my little Aerocart and slipped the Two Bags of Potting Soil in
That was easy enough to slide them out into the Cart, then I set them on the Front Porch for later
I had to do a little more prep work on the Cucumber Bed so I went back to start on that
Needed to chop up some of the Compost and then hang some Screening on the Trellis for the Cukes to climb
Worked about an Hour on that then back in for a little rest up, that's tiring working on that Hill

That was it for the rest of the Day outside, doesn't take much to wear me out up on that Hill
Now Monday, it is 64 Degrees at 6 a.m. and going to 70, but Cloudy, should be fine for working up there again
I have Four Bags of Garden Soil to spread in the Beds and my Seed Packet says I can plant my Radishes in March
I'll dump in that new Soil, spread it out, water it good then maybe plant in a Day or three?

Off to Monday... I am READY!

Saturday Mornng... another Gorgeous Day ahead, cool to start then warming up fast
A quick and losing trip to the Price Chopper, some Spice Cake then some indoor Garden checking
And then about 10 a.m. and in bright Sun and 50 Degrees I headed up the Hill to dig in the Pumpkin Patch
Lots of good Soil under that Bed I moved but I wanted some Compost in there for the Pumpkin Patch
I dug a trench the length of the Pumpkin Cage, to dump in the Compost and then rake the Soil back over
Got a call from Pat at 11:30 a.m. ...Said she was on the way with the loot I wanted

~ Trench Dug ~ Waiting for Compost ~

So I went out back, pushed the AeroCart back around front by the Curb, took the Trash up to the Dunpster
Then I sat out on the Sunny Veranda and waited for Pat to head down the Hill, wasn't long

She parked out front, I pushed the Cart out, then got a Photo of her emptying the Bucket into the Cart

~ Compost Delivered ~ Compost Deposited ~

So she dumped the Compost into the Cart and I started pulling it up the Hill in back
Halfway up the Hill she wanted to take over, she thinks I am old and weak... (Shhhhhhh I am... and 20 years Older)
So then she dumped the stuff into the trench I dug and we headed back down to chat out on the Veranda

She had a Glass of Wine and I sipped a Margarita out in the Sunshine for quite a time chatting
No green stuff much yet anywhere but just a gorgeous early Spring Day

Then she had to leave to take care of her Menagerie up around the corner and get on with her Afternoon
And I headed back up the Hill in back to rake the Soil back over the Compost, now all ready to plant
Oh yeah, she brought me a packet of White Radish Seeds, that will be the first thing to plant in my Cucumber Bed

~ Trench Filled and Raked ~ Waiting for Planting ~

And again... that was all the action for the Day, the rest of the Afternoon and Evening like all the rest
Now Sunday, more Good Weather ahead, thinking of heading to Lowes for some Garden Soil and Pots

~ The Dead Bed is Alive! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Friday Morning 6:30 a.m. 32 Degrees but heading to 66, Spring has Sprung! Well, springing anyway
And what for today? (Friday) My Air Pump should be in the Mail Box and Pat's new Aerogarden is coming
I wanted to get the old one from her and see if I can get some Seeds started in it... Hmmm, what should I Plant?
Later I would like to go to her place and get some Compost too, get that Pumpkin Patch dug up and Composted

OK then, 8:30 a.m. I called Pat, told her the replacement Garden would be delivered later that Day
She said she had the old one back and I asked if I could stop by and pick it up... OK
That I did, got the Garden, on to the Price Chopper for Lottos, back by my Mail Box to pick up the Air Pump
OK, opened the box, read the Instructiona, can't submerge the Pump, need tubing to run to the Water Tank
And so, off to P&G Hardware, had just the tubing I needed, then on to the Auto Parts Store
Needed new Windshield Wipers, picked them up and back to el Ranchito, installed the Wipers

Next, the Old Aerogarden, that looks new... Had a hole in the top of the Tank but had to drill it bigger
I stuck the Tubing in the Hole, just right, then filled the Tank with Water, added Nutrient
Set the Garden on the Shelf, planted Cilantro and Parsley Pods, hooked up the Air Pump
Then plugged in the Light Cord, then the Air Pump Cord.. WAH LAH! It's alive! It's alive!
Now we shall see if my wild idea of reviving that casualty will work as I expect...

On to the Day to wait for Pat's Garden delivery, she also said she would be over to visit
The order said it would be here Friday and by USPS 'Sure Post' so that meant later in the Day
And I went up the Hill three times to check, the guy was late... finally showed up
I waited a little for my Mail, but he was so slow I went on home to sip my Margarita
Back up the Hill at 4:30, my letter Mail was in my Box but no Package Box Key... HUH!

So, back home, sip some more Margarita and catch up with the politicos... BORING!
Pat called, said she was running late, would have to postpone until Saturday, OK

Finally... about 6 p.m. a knock on the Door, the Mail Truck and my Package, he had overlooked it earlier
Brought it in and unpacked, the Aerogarden Box, the Tomato Seed Pods and a 'Seed Starter' Kit
That Kit was an extra they are now adding to an Aerogarden purchase, I want to try starting my Cucumbers in that
That will be several weeks later though, can't set Cucumbers in the Ground too early in Spring
Where to use the Kit though, In the one I fixed or my Garden 3? It has Basil in it but just about finished
Just have to see how the new Planting goes and how the Basil already growing does

Then off to Dinner prep, one of those Pork Chops grilled, a Baked Potato and Napa Cabbage Slaw
What a Dandy Dish to set before the King! Yummy! Fine way to end another pretty fine Day
And now... off to a beautful Warm Sunny Saturday ahead

~ Social Security Check in the Bank ~
~ And another Sunny Nice Day ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Another Loaf of Rye Bread baked Wednesday ~ I like the Chewy Texture ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Thursday a little warmer Morning at 37 Degrees, saying Sunny and going to 51, nothing planned outside though
Another delivery coming though, this time a little Air Pump... And Pat's new Aerogarden coming Friday
She is giving me the defunct Garden, I am going to try to rehab it with an Air Pump and Seed Starter System

So, there's the Rye Bread I baked on Wednesday, went very well, buttered and with my Steak and Tater
Today I need to slice up the rest of the Loaf, Package and freeze it for whenever I need a slice or two

And off again to the Price Chopper, needed Sandwich Stuff, Chicken Gizzards for the Cat and my Lottos
Hit the Snail Mail Box on the way back for junk Mail and Bills, and a letter from someone who needs help
Not the first Letter of that kind but most always able to help out, back to the Price Chopper for a Money Order

Oh, forgot the AeroGarden emergency on Wednesday evening, was watching the Movie quietly when an Alarm went off
And LOUD! And I could not tell where it was coming from, like a Tornado Siren or what! A Screeching Wail!
Checked outside, nope, inside here somewhere, then decided it was coming from the Gardens, which one?
I unplugged them one by one, finally the Screech stopped! Garden 5 but why? They have audible alarms but I hadn't set any
And they are just a small beep not a Fire Engine Screech... So WHAT? Had an idea, got some Water, plugged it back in
The Screech started again and I poured in the Water, then it burped a couple times and then stopped
It took a lot of Water, and the 'Water Me Now' message had not come on, was almost empty and the Pump had gone dry I guess

But back to Thursday, got a note that my new Air Pump would be delivered that afternoon and Pat's new Garden Friday
On to check the Gardens again, the Thai Basil needed clipped again, clipped and dried that batch
Then into the Afternoon, warmed up some, decided to do a little work on the Pumpkin Cage, some side Braces
I measured and sawed them, took them up the Hill and stapled them to the Cage... then thinking ahead
It might be a good idea to go get some more of Pat's compost and till it into that potential Bed

~ Some Side Braces added to my Pumpkin Cage ~

Anything else for Thursday? Nope, just wind down with a Manhattan and warm up some Dinner
And what for Friday? Warmer weather agead, 27 Degrees to start at 6 a.m. but 60 later
In fact the Man says we will have the next Five Days in the 60s... I can handle that quite easily

And, now what do I plant in that Seed Starter Kit that comes today?
And when can I plant something out back on the Hill? Come on Springtime!

~ Raked the Tomato Bed Smooth ~
~ Harvested more Lettuce ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Redo Complete ~ Next, when to Plant? ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And so... Wednesday Morning... The Grow Lights came on to show that Swiss Chard touching the Light again, I raised it
The Lettuce in Garden 7 doing the same thing, how many times have I clipped that Lettuce, I have lost count?
I snip enough for a big bowl of Wilted Lettuce, and again a Week later, here it is again and a bigger Crop each time

~ One more LARGE Lettuce Harvest ~

And at 8 a.m. most all my Morning stuff done, then what... Cloudy and only 29 Degrees out there
But they show the sun coming out a little later and 57 by 2 p.m. Just might get up on that hill later
Well, I had those three little 'Heirloom' Tomatoes... so Ripe and so Red... Thought I would take them down to Lewis
Kind of a running 'joke' taking him the Bounty I raise in my Garden... So they are tiny? So what

Headed down to the Coffee House, none of the Gang was there, on up the Road then to the Price Chopper
Traded for my Lottos, won $15, then back to the Minit Mart, traded again and won another $15...
About then I started thinking of my Wilted Lettuce, what to go with that? How about a Steak and baked Tater?

Back to the Meat Counter at the Price Chopper. Hey Hey! ...Nice Pork Chops on sale for $1.99 a Pound
Picked up a pack of Six for $4.06, saved over $6 on that, then some top Sirloin Steak for $7.99 a Pound
Got a pack of Two for $8.79 then headed back... Then 11 a.m. and 44 degrees and hazy Sun... warming up some

~ Six Nice 'On Sale' Pork Chops ~

Back at el Rancherito, unpacked, then stored the Chops in the Freezer, next on to the Steaks
Pretty good sized so I cut one in half, put those Two pieces in the Freezer, put the larger one in the Fridge for Dinner
So for about $15 I have Nine Dinners worth of Meat, pretty good deal at that, doncha think?

And then.. how about some Home Baked Bread... Rye again, that last Loaf I made was pretty tasty
Got the Bread Maker out of the Pantry, mixed up the Flour and stuff, plugged it in and turned it on

And then... time to harvest that latest Lettuce Crop, Snip Snip and there's a big Bowlful
Layed it out on the Table for a Photo as usual, then into the Fridge for Dinner later

~ Latest Bumper Crop of Lettuce from Garden 7 ~

And then... 1 p.m, Sunny and up to 54 Degrees, Hooray! Put on my long sleeve Shirt and headed out back
Not much left to do, just rake it smooth and put the Gates back on, almost all ready for Spring Planting
I got all the usable Soil down from the old Bed Site, just need to add a few new Bags of Garden Soil

The Afternoon ticked on to evening, the Bread Machine finished up, popped out the Loaf, took off a slice for dinner
Wrapped the rest to slice up and Freeze on Thursday, on to Dinner time then
A nice Baking Potato into the Oven, rinsed and chilled my Lettuce. cut up the Green Onions
Diced those three little Tomatoes and added the Onions and Tomatoes to the Lettuce, simmered up the Dressing
Then all was waiting for the Potato to Bake, Beep Beep and time to Grill the Steak and heat up the Dressing again
The Finale then... Steak on the Plate, the Potato split and Buttered, hot Dressing on the Lettuce
Assembled my Feast in front of the TV and had at it while I watched a rerun of Colombo...

Aaaah yes, another Loverly Day at the Smith Rancherito... HAH!

~ New Month ~ New Day ~ And Pay Day ~
~ And Heading Straight into Spring! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Pat's Source of the Compost she brought Me ~ And the Mule She is Housing for her Friend ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And so I left out a couple Items from Monday, kind of another busy Day after all and great Weather!
Earlier I had sold one of my Aerogardens to my friend Pat and then the 'Bubbler' died
That's a little pump embedded in the Base to aerate the Water Tank, a necessary item
She did not have the original Invoice to prove she bought it but I had it in my Computer
So I printed it out, called AeroGro, the Company that makes the AeroGarden, talked to Sarah
All the people there I have talked to are just great and they have great Customer Service

So She asked my Name, checked their file, 'Oh in Parkville Missouri?' Yep that's me
'And what can I do for you today?' and explained the Problem, we will have to send you a new unit she says
The whole thing, yes, the pump is in the Base with the Electronics, so a new one is on the way
She didn't want the Invoice, just said to send a Email Photo which I did and, now it is on it's way

Then on my second foray to trade Lottos I saw Pat out with her Horse and visitor Mule and it's owner
So I pulled in her Driveway to give her the good News and to chat a little and get Photos of the Compost Factory
A little chat about this and that and then headed on to the Price Chopper for goodies and Lottos

And so, Tuesday March 1st... A Happy Day! IBM Pay Day and as usual I was in need of another Cash infusion
Somehow I have a Money leak, have no idea in the World what that might be... (shhhhhhhhhhhh)
Ok, getting my Morning underway and on to a Sunny cool but warming new Day... a peek at the Swiss Chard
A few Leaves clipped at a time, this is the Third small Harvest, but that Freezer stash is growing
Maybe a couple more snippings and I'll have enough to saute for a Serving, those small crisp Leaves are Delish!

~ Third small Swiss Chard Harvest ~

OK, again, what are all those Trucks doing parked all down the Street and in the Gully?
Doing something with the Sewer Line down there I believe, making even more noise than the guys upstairs
Today, steam rising to the Sky and a lot of whooshing to go along with the Steam, guess I should ask Boss Bob
Ansd also... They are atill rehabbing the Unit above me and sawing, pounding and drilling all day the last few Days
The Painter was up there last night way after 6 p.m. irritating me with his banging around

~ Letting off Steam and Noise down in the Gully ~

Stayed too cold all day to get outside to do anything out back, didn't get to the 51 Degrees they predicted
24 Degrees at 6 a.m. Wednesday and now saying going to 60 later, that should do nicely
Just planning on raking the Soil smooth in the Tomato Garden, later a little work on the Pumpkin Cage

Working away at the Afternoon then, slowly, just TV and warmups again, lots of those boring Politics
Have to take a peek at the news this morning, see if Trump won it all like they predicted... Oh well

And then... Off to see what Adventure Wednesday holds for me... Treasure maybe!

~ Money in the Bank Monday Night! ~
~ And February is GONE ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Finally a few Ripe Cherry Tomatoes in Garden 5 ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Yeah, picked those first little Heirloom Tomatoes from Garden 5 on Sunday, only ones I have seen in there
But there ara a lot of bigger ones in Garden 6 planted 20 Days later... Go figger that?

And Monday Morning, the Weather Man says another 70 Degree Day, maybe get back up on the Hill?
Not many more Loads of Soil left now to bring down... And 'Pumpkin Cage' up there to work on a bit later
March starts tomorrow, starting to think of the Summer Gardens now, maybe buy a couple new Pots
And I want to add some new Garden Soil to all three Beds back on the Hill, then what and when to Plant?

And off to find my Fortune and almost found it, well a tad anyway, won $40 worth at the Price Chopper
The another piece of my Spice Cake, then back again to the Minit Mart to try again for the End of the Rainbow
This time won my $20 back plus $15 to buy some stuff at the Price Chopper, Needed Juice, Nuts and Candy

And nice and warm, 50 plus at 10 a.m. On up to 67 Degrees at Noon, time to head back up the Hill again
Tugged my little Cart up to the old Bed Site, filled it with Soil, back down to dump it in the Bed
Then back for three more Loads, a rest on my Garden Bench between loads, then one to go, but needing refreshment
So back inside for a break with a Margarita before going back to finish up for the Day back there
Another peek at the Rhubarb on the way back in, a couple nights below freezing but still growing nicely

~ The Rhubarb Survived the Cold Nights ~ February 21st and 29th Here ~

A sip sip or Three and back up the Hill one more time for the Afternoon, one more load did it
Toted that Load down dumped it in the Bed, will put off raking it smooth until later...
Then I dragged the Pumpkin Cage I made last year over to where the Pepper Bed was, for the new Pumpkin Patch
No Pumpkins at all last year, Deer or other Varmints got them... But try, try again

~ New Project ~ Pumpkin Patch goes Here ~

And again, that was it again for another Gorgeous last Day of February... March just around the Corner
After that Margarita I switched to a Glass of Vino Tinto to while away the afternoon til Chow time
And again.. what to fix for Dinner, so much good stuff out there, well I decided on leftovers
And that was Meatloaf, Mashed Taters, and Green Beans with Ham and Onions... Ohhh that was good!
Sometimes leftovers are just good or so so, but that setup on Monday was just great!

They say it will bw COLDER on Tuesday but it is Pay Day so that will take come of the Chill off
Let's jump head first into the New Month NOW!
