~ New Years Eve ~

~ Good News from the Radiologist ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And starting off Tuesday with even colder Weather, headed out at 12 Degrees, Brrrrrrrrr
Needed some Apple Juice so I stopped in at the Price Chopper first
Picked that up and headed for the Lotto Machine, got my daily Dose
Then back to have another cuppa Coffee and work off $16 in Winners
Well with that I can go get some more and win some more? HAH! Well Payday is coming

Ok this time I decided to hit the Fast Stop again, I lose track of where I get the good ones
So I got my favorite three Cards and a couple more, cashed in that $16 Win
And then won $15, enough to pay for today's attempt at great Fortune

The rest of the day was pretty quiet again, way too Cold for any fun outside
So I did a little more thinning in my 'Turnip Patch' planter
And then a long afternoon of a lot of TV and with TWO Manhattans!
Then I just put a steak out to thaw, later baked a Potato and made a nice Salad
And finished up the Day and headed for Dreamland... And I DID dream, oh yeah!

So tonight? Party Time?... No, just the 'Same old'... But I'll have a Happy New Year anyway

~ A Trip to Radiation ~
~ And Good News... Sort Of ~ ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Tried a Slice of that Mince Pie ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Monday Morning, kinda Cold out there again, let's get back to those 40s
So, I had $13 worth of Lotto Winners to trade for more, back to Kicks 66 again
And I bought $13 worth of Tickets and headed back to scratch off a $5 Winner
Then I went back to the Price Chopper to trade that and a $10 Bill on more Lottos
And this time I only scratched off a $1 and $3 Winner, is that all for today?

So, an appointment at 1:00 p.m. at the North Kansas City Hospital Radiation Department
Long time to wait til then... And no Food or Drink after Midnight they said
None of my usual first thing Apple Juice, no Coffee, no Breakfast...
So that made the wait that much longer to be hungry and thirsty too

Finally at 12:25 I headed out to North Kansas City, they said arrive at 12:45
That was cutting it close but they always make me wait anyway
And I made it to the Radiation Department right on the dot, checked in and waited

But not a long wait, here comes Jody and walks me back to the Room, then some questions
Then she mixed me up a Coctail, the Doctor came in to explain the process
I get on the Machine, drink the Barium when he says and he watches the result on the Computer

Well, that wasn't so bad, one little cup of some white stuff to start, not bad tasting
Then a sip of that chalky stuff, again not all that bad, then X-Rays front and back
Then the Table lowered and more sips and X-Rays front and back lying down

And then they were done, the Doctor came in and told me what he saw, and good news for me
I Always suspect the worst and then it usually comes out less than I expected
He says I have a Hiatal Hernia, probably as a result of Acid Reflux and I am working on that
Last time I was at the Primary Doctor's Office he gave me a Prescriptiom for Pantoprasole
I took one pill and then no Acid Reflux, and none since I started on the daily Pills

So maybe I will live happily ever after... after all, well maybe a few more days anyway

~ My New Turnip Greens Planting ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And Sunday Mornng, Chilly at 20 Degrees but Sunny and going to 40 plus maybe
So, had my Juice and Coffee, Posted my Saturday BLOG, finished my Morning Routine
And headed again to Kicks 66 for my Daily Lottos, Got $10 Cash back after my Daily Ration
Then back home to scratch off only a $2 and $3 Winner, shall we go try for more?

Then a sample slice of my Holiday Mince Pie, was working on finishing the Strudel first
I put a slice in the M/W for half a minute then some Cool Whip on top
This year's try turned out pretty Tasty but that 'None-Such' Mincemeat is more Raisins than anything
No one seems to put any real Meat in Mincemeat now and not many serve it now anyway

And then a Call from a friend wanting some Computer Assistance, would be nice if I could charge
Anyway I headed over there around Noon or so to see what I could see... Didn't sound difficult

So while waiting I thinned my Seven Top Turnips some more, will still have more to do
I just planted way too many seeds in there, they are so tiny it's hard to keep them separate

Finally I headed out about Noon, stopped in at the Fast Stop to trade my Dinky Lotto Wins
Got more Tickets, then won another $8 and found another $5 Win in my Blazer

And I started in on the Friend's Computer, his main complaint was an expired Anti-Virus Program on a new Laptop
It kept popping up to remind him to buy the Anti-Virus, well, he could get AT&T McAfee for free
That comes with AT&T U-Verse and he has that, so I first deleted the Trial Anti-Virus
Then signed in to AT&T and downloaded McAfee and Installed that... Finito!

Next took a little longer, he wanted a ton of Files transfered from the Old Computer
And it is an OLD Computer... Easiest way was just to copy everything off to a DVD
Then copy it back to the HD on the New Computer, and the old DVD drive was SLOW

Finally that was done but the 'MS Word' program he needed was on the Old Box too and that can't be copied
And he didn't want to spend the Money to buy a new Program so I downloaded 'Open Office'
That is a good Program, does about all the 'MS Word' will do and totally Free, can't beat that
So then I fired up the Machine, showed him how the new Program worked
All Missions Accomplished and they all lived happily ever after

~ So Exciting I made the Front Page! ~

Then back home to Mix my Manhattan, catch up to the TV News, have a nice Dinner and hit the Hay

Now, about Noon again, I have to head to North Kansas City Hospital Radiation Dept
And do a 'Barium Swallow' Test to check on my Esophageal irritation...
That shouldn't be too bad an ordeal and then -I- Can live happily ever after too...

On to the New Week and Pay Day and the New Year on Thursday!

~ One Sweet $100.00 Win on Lottos ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I have Chronic Lottoitus. I just can't get enough of those Lotto Scratchers
Well, it is fun when you win and I manage to do that now and then, more thens than nows
So off on a Chilly, Cloudy, Saturday Morning to Kicks 66 for a few Tickets
Back home to scratch off only a dinky $6 Bingo and $3 on a Show Me Cash, that ain't gonna pay the Rent

So, after a nice slice of my Christmas Apple Strudel with Cool Whip, back to the Fast Stop
And cashed in mt $6 Win, added $8 and bought four more Tickets
And then back home to scratch off a $10 Win on the same Card I won the $100 on Friday

Then I arranged the top Grow Light on my Winter Garden Shelf, I had put the Basil Plant up there
The two New Zealand Impatiens sort of gave up on that Shelf, don't know if they will revive or not
And then, oops, looks like I am about out of TP, headed back to the Price Chopper for some

Well I got my TP and of course I had to trade in that $10 win to see if I could do any better
And back to scratch off $30 in Winners! Time to quit for the Day

And so what else for Saturday? Dinner I guess, thawed out another of those Omaha Steaks Sirloins
Then I made a nice Salad, Lettuce, tiny Pear Tomatoes, Green Pepper, a little Onion and a chopped Boiled Egg
Baked an Idaho Russet Potato, Grilled that Steak, Dressed tha Salad, not that the way to top off the Day!>

So what today? Not a clue... Can't even think of any chores that need to be done.. Oh Well
Another Doctor Day on Monday, that will ruin half a Day anyway

~ Another Coffee House Visit with Lewis ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Sweet Basil on Christmas Morning ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And I was about ready to head out for my Lottos when I got a Call from Lewis Jonas
'You gonna be out and about today' he says, 'Just heading out the door' I says
And on down to the Parkville Coffee House... and the Street was deserted and only a few inside
Lewis was at his usual place and we had a chat... a nice long chat about the 'Good Old Days'
Well, I am still having a few Good New Days now and like to have a few more
Then we both headed out about 10 a.m. He had to take his wife somewhere, I needed my Lottos

I got back and had my Coffee and worked my Lottos.. Oh... Lookee there, a $100 Winner!
Yeah, I need that after that $500 repair Bill for my Blazer... And I got another $6 Win to add to that
So back to the Price Chopper to cash in, Took the $100 in Cash and the $6 in Lottos

Then over to Kicks 66 for Gas and Lottos, but the Gas Pumps were not working
Their Credit Machine was acting up and only Cash Sales... So I got a couple Lottos and left
Then back home to work nothing but one lonely $5 win, Oh Well, still $80 or so profit for the day

Then on to a busy puttering around inside day, nothing special just a lot of little chores to do
Was supposed to help a friend with his Computer again but he never called, oh well
So, one of the 'chores' was to thin the new seedings, planted way too thick but the seeds are so tiny
The first thinning was just in clumps, they are so tiny they need more size to thin more sparsely

~ Second Crop of Seven Top Turnips ~

The first crop of Seven Tops is doing nicely and the Basil is really looking good
I could Harvest a few leaves of that now if I needed it for something
But I still have Dried Basil on the Shelf and in the Freezer that I grew a couple years ago

The day finally wound down and I finished it off with another Roasted Duck Dinner
A hunk of juicy dark Duck Breast, some dressing with Gravy and a serving of buttered Roasted Carrots
That was a more sumptious Dinner that the one I dished up for Christmas Day

On to a new Day! Let's get this Show on the road!

~ Christmas Day ~
~ Sampled my Apple Strudel Again ~
~ A Sunny Morning ~ No White Christmas ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ My Christmas Bounty ~ I Really Made out this Year! ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Christmas Morning, Bright and Sunny, Just the way I like it
And, I had another sample of that Christmas Apple Strudel, I wasn't impressed Wednesday Night
I wrapped up the rest and put it in the Fridge overnight, sliced off a hunk for Breakfast
It had kind of a funny taste The first try, only out of the oven a short time then
I thought I may have put a bit too much Nutmeg in it, Sigi says you don't put Nutmeg in Strudel
But I usually add a bit to my Apple Pie so in it went, and after the flavors melded now, it is quite good
The Puff Pastry is a little Chewey but I like it, so this wasn't a bad try after all

Then, off to Kicks 66, only a couple cars there, well it was Christmas Morning
And then back through 'Parkville Commons' and the Price Chopper parking lot
All the stores were deserted and looked totally desolate, well only one day a year it looks like that

Back home then to scratch off a Nice $20 Win on a $3 Ticket and then a $3 Win on a $3 Ticket
That Win doubled what my Tickets Cost so I headed back the the Fast Stop to trade
And I buzzed down to the Fast Stop, had a little Chat with the guy from India who works there
Traded for some more tickets and headed back to scratch off another $20 and a $5 Win
Hey... that's a nice modest profit so far... Price Chopper is closed so back again to Kicks 66

And got my Lottos at Kicks again, shudda stayed home, got four Duds this time
But still some profit for the Day... Ole!

So what else for Christmas Day? Just a quiet afternoon and a good Dinner
I had a lot of Duck Meat that just fell off the Thigh Bones into pieces
And I had a lot of that Dressing I made for the Duck so I put them together
So I had kind of a Duck Hash then to try, and it was really good! That duck meat is excellent!
And that finished off a better than usual Christmas Day for me

So what for the Day after the Day? Looks like another Computer rescue party
I have a friend that is an excellent Auto Mechanic, General Motors factory trained
But he has no idea what is making that Laptop of his run, this time no problem
Just a little software adjustment will get him settled down I believe
So that will probably be the big (?) Project to keep me busy today

~ Christmas Eve ~
~ On the Last Day before Christmas ~
~ It was Snowing and Melting ~

~ Another Gift from Pat ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Peeked out at 6 a.m. on Wednesday Morning.. All WET out there! And Snowing lightly... but at 35 Degrees
So off to the Races (I wish)... Just to the Price Chopper for my Lottos and I only won $11
And back home to wonder what to do on another Wet, Cloudy and Dreary Day
I was thinking again baking a Stollen like Sigi suggested but not really in the mood
Anyway I like Strudel better, maybe make one of those soon, the last Pie is almost gone
Pie! Now that's an idea, I hadn't made my annual 'Mincemeat Pie' yet
I did bake my annual 'Spice Fruitcake' but that was a couple weeks back and it's gone
So back to the Price Chopper for some Pie Crusts and 'None Such' Mincemeat like Mom used

Got some nice big Jonathan Apples on sale, I like to add an Apple or two to the Mincemeat
And so, on with the Oven to 350 Degrees while I peeled and chopped the Apple
Then add to the Mincemeat and stir in and add a couple ounces of Bourbon to Jazz it up
Lay the Crust in the Pan, in with the Mincemeat, on with the top Crust and into the Oven
And after an Hour or so, feast your eyes on that Beauty of a Christmas Pie there Sigi!

~ My Latest 'Masterpiece' Mincemeat Pie! ~

And then what? Apple Strudel? That should be easy... Easier than Stollen anyway
But I needed a couple more Apples and some Puff Pastry, so back to the Price Chopper
Back to the Ranch, the Mincemeat Pie out of the Oven to Cool, on with the Strudel
Put the Puff Pastry out to thaw, peeled three Apples... Minced one, sliced Two
Into a Bowl with the Apples, a Cup of Brown Sugar, a Cup of Golden Raisins
Then a Teaspoon of Cinnamon and a Teaspoon of Nutmeg, Two Ounces of Bourbon
Stir it all up good, then fill a sheet of Puff Pastry, seal and brush with Egg Wash
Into the Oven for 45 Minutes then, easy enough and WAH LAH!... Look at that!

~ Schau dir meine schönen Apfelstrudel! ~

On through the Afternoon, TV, Manhattan and the some of Pat's Chianti, quite Tasty!
Finished off that Christmas Eve with one of those Omaha Sirloin Steaks and French Fries
And a hunk of that Strudel... Hmmm... a bit too much Nutmeg but lots of Apples and Raisins
And so... On to Christmas Day we god!

Twas the Night before Christmas and all through my House
Not a Creature was stirring, Boss Bob sprayed for the Mouse

No Stockings were hung by the Chimney with care
As really there is... no Fireplace there

No need to hang Stockings anyway, that should be clear
As Santa Claus doesn't Visit Me here

And so, now on to my Happy Saturnalia and to the Rest of you...
Merry Christmas to all... And to all a Good Night!

When is New Years Day anyway?

~ On the Second Day before Christmas ~
~ A Visit with Lewis ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Some of Pat's Cranberry Bread ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And a bright Start on Tuesday, Sunny and 40 Degrees... very Nize...
I posted my BLOG and then headed down to the Coffee House for a Chat... and no one there
I called Lewis on my Funny Fone... 'No Coffee today?' 'Just having a little Breakfast' he says
'Be there in five minutes', so I got a Cup of Coffee and checked my Facebook and Email
Then a Message to Sigi on Yahoo Messenger ( He didn't answer) and Lewis came in to get his Coffee
So then we had a nice Chat about this, that and the Other, Lewis had to leave about 9:30 so we headed out
And I went to Kicks 66 for my Lottos, not a bad haul, won $23 worth, a slight profit

Oh Oh, out of Marischino Cherries for my afternoon Manhattan, so back to the Price Chopper
Got my Cherries and traded my winner Lottos for what? Back home to work them over
And I won another $19, continuing with a few small Winners

And so, my Doctor had sent a new Prescription to Walmart for me, decided to run up and get it
In and out pretty quick, got my Pills and headed back, stopped by the Price Chopper
Traded my $19 worth of Winners for $14 worth of Losers, that ate up my Profit for the day
And on into what was then a cloudy dreary looking afternoon, waiting for the UPS Man again

I had decided to trade in some of my Lottos Loser Points for some more 'Omaha' Steaks and Burgers
And about 2 p.m. a big Truck showed up, not UPS or FedX, truck said 'Budget' on the side
The guy carred a big Box to an Apartment upstairs, then dropped my Package on my Porch
And then I checked out another shipment of Loot from the Missouri Lottery
Six Beef Burgers and Four Sirloin Steaks, that will make a few Cook-outs for me

~ My Latest 'Prize' for Losing Lotto Tickets ~

Then try to see if even more stuff would fit into my stuffed Freezer, I could have waited to order
I sure didn't need any more Food to store in there at Present
Well I did find a corner in there I could stuff that stuff in, not a lot of bulk there after all
Then I took my Trash up to the Dumpster, I saw that Tom had spread Salt all over the Street with his little Tractor
What does he know that I do not? The Forecast for Wednesday says Cloudy and 37 Degrees, no hint of snow

And later I saw on the Telly that we could expect some light now with probably little accumulation
Now this Wednesday Morning I peeked out to see a very light snow falling but the trees are drippy wet
The Temps are in the upper 30s and will stay that way all day so no slipping and sliding
Will get cold tonight but then Warm for Christmas Day near 50...

So I am wishing you a Warm Christmas and a Happy Saturnalia!

~ Brownie Brittle for Snacks on Saturday and Sunday ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

What a Christmasy Weekend that was and three more days to Celebrate... And then New Years to whoop up!
Well, actually I sort of Celebrate every Day that I can have some fun and there are lots of Days like that
Of course my sense of fun is rather simple and I am easy to please
Just some Cooking, some Gardening, some Photographing and Computer Time is all fun for me

And Off to a new Day and New Week, Where to go for my Lottos on Monday... Hah! To the 'Fast Stop'
But first a couple slices of that Cranberry Bread that Pat baked, see how that goes
And the Cranberry Bread was quite a tasty Treat, as all her gifts that have been sampled so far were

Then off to get my Lottos at the Fast Stop, only won a $3 Ticket this time
So I went back, told my friend there from Nepal, you will have to do better
And this time back to scratch off only a $5 Win, so no profit for Monday

So on to the day, not much else going on, I did finish carving my Duck
And really that Duck was not such a bargain, really tasty but not a lot of meat
Seems from that five pound Duck there were two pounds of Meat and three pounds of Bones and Fat
But a real nice change for the Usual Turkey or Ham for the Holiday

Starting off Tuesday sayng clear today, been kind of rainy the last couple days
Good thing the Temps have been in the upper 30s and then 40s or we would have had Snow and Ice
And what today? Thinking of heading first back down to the Coffee Shop to brag a little to Lewis
And only two more days til Christmas... Like George Bush said.. "Bring it On!"

~ On the Fourth Day before Christmas ~
~ I Roasted my 'Pato' ~
~ Christmas Dinner all Prepared Four Days Early ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ Sampled Pat's Nut Bread on Saturday ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

So I am into sampling my Christmas Gifts... I make the Season several days of Celebrating
I started Saturday with some of Pat's Nut Bread, quite Tasty! Then some of the 'Brownie Brittle'
It went very well at TV Snack Time with a glass of one of her fine Red Wine Gifts, Oh yeah!
And then Sunday Morning a sample of the Gourmet Coffee that came with all the Goodies

~ Sampled the Colombia Supremo Coffee Gift ~

After my Coffee and Morning Routine, off to the Price Chopper for the Items I forgot Saturday
And trade in the single $9 Winner for more tries at the Big One, it has to be waiting for me somewhere
And I picked up what I thought I needed and got four Lottos and a Show Me Cash
Back to unload and then scratch off $22 in Scratch Wins and $2 on the Show me Cash, a $10 profit

Then I checked again online for Temps and Times to Roast the Duck, then in the Oven at 9:30 a.m.
I decided on the Low Temp for Three Hours and finish at High for 45 Minutes
I can only remember maybe roasting three Ducks and this way sounded good

So then, I had hit the Price Chopper about 9 a.m and needed Vino Tinto and they can't sell until 10 a.m. Sunday
And I thought of several more Items I needed and didn't get the first time
So I headed back, picked them up and traded my $22 Win for more lottos and $11 Cash
I only won $9 back, so only an $8 Win for the Day
And then... back to the Kitchen to make some Dressing to go with the Duck

This time I got a Box of that Prepared Dressing in the Box but I always jazz it up a little
It says just add Water and Butter and away we go, that ain't the way I do it
I melted a half stick of Butter in the Pot, then added sliced Onions and Celery
Then the Duck Giblets and Neck Meat I had simmered, when that was all Sauteed nicely...
I added in the Duck Broth I simmered the Giblets in, brought to a nice Boil
Then stirred in the Dressing Mix, let it stand a few minutes and then into a Casserole

And then it was about time to take the Duck out of the Oven, was looking real good

~ Roasted 'Pato' for the Christmas Days ~

So with the Duck out of the Oven and Photographed... In with the Dressing to bake a half hour or so
Now... How does that look? Maybe good enough to eat? You bet your bippy there, Maynard

~ A Nice Side Dish to go along with my Roasted 'Duck à l'orange' ~

Yeah, the Dressing looked good after that Bake in the Oven, then to sample some
Let's not get greedy, just a couple Duck Legs and some Dressing on the Side, some Cranberry Sauce too?
So Christmas Dinner a bit early... Mom says 'Just wait'... I start early and make the Season last... Oh yeah!

And then, the Finale, the end to a fun Cooking Day and long Weekend
I dished up a pre-Christmas Dinner, a Roasted Duck Leg, serving of aromatic Dressing, dish of Cranberry Sauce
And that Duck was far better tasting than my last Turkey, maybe time to switch festive Birdies?
Now I have all the rest of that 'Duck à l'orange' to do away with
From the way the first sample tasted... I don't think I will need to store any
It won't last that long.... it is Dee Luscious!

~ Saturday ~ December 20, 2014 ~
~ Off to the Doctor at 8 a.m. ~
~ Sampled Pat's Holiday Cake ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ My First and Best Holiday Gift ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

So, Saturday Morning I sampled one of the Holiday Nut Breads that Pat brought me on Friday afternoon
And half of that good sized Tasty Morsel made a quite adequate Breakfast... I have that other half for later
And another little Loaf waiting that might make Breakfast for another Two Days, good stuff there Maynard!

Then off to my Primary Doctor's Office at 8 a.m. There at 8:15 And then into the little Room
The Nurse started her Tests and Questions, decided I needed an EKG and X-Ray, don't they always?
Quite a lot of questions and Computer entering and finally the Doctor came in
And lots more questions before we got around to the reason I went in the first place
Anyway I received a renewal of my Usual Prescriptions and a new one for a Drug for Acid Reflux
And two more Speciaist Appointments to keep the ball rolling as usual
One to do a Barium swallow X-ray examination to study the Pharynx and Esophagus
And to a Neuropathologist to check for any early signs of Alzheimer's disease
Not that I have any, wants to check to see if I do and get early treatment
Then the Finale, a Pneumonia Shot, what? Something new now to poke you with?

And then out of there and headed back to Kicks 66 to trade in my $10 Lotto, only won back a $5
So then what to do, all out of projects for the moment, go back for more Lottos?
That's my dangerous spending time, when I get bored and start looking for ways to spend Money

So back to the Price Chopper to do just that, traded in my $5 Winner, it was NOT a Winner...BAH!
And I bought some more Lottos and won a $9 to offset that loss, by losing more
Next... Donald bought a Duck on the Fifth Day before Christmas... Roast that Ducky Today! (Sunday)

~ A Five Pound 'Pato' to Roast for Christmas ~

An Indoor Gardening note for Friday, that Radish Planter was empty and I couldn't let that idle
So I planted another crop of those "Seven Top" Turnips for Greens, the first planting doing OK so far

So... What to wind up that kinda busy Saturday? I prepped that Ducky for Roasting
Puled ouy the Giblets to simmer, rinsed and trimmed the Duck, then seasoned with Salt and Pepper
And then cut an Orange in segments and stuffed them inside, then in the Fridge overnight
Now about Midday today (Sunday) I'll let it warm up to Room Temp and then into the oven a couple Hours
And maybe on the Fourth Day before Christmas I'll sample my Christmas Dinner

~ Windows 8 on Pat's Laptop ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And so, Friday Morning Pat's Laptop ready to go and waiting for her to visit
Windows 8 is a bit of a Venture at first but with Version 8-1 installed, not so bad
In fact a lot of good stuff on there if you know how to get to it, I don't use the Start Page much
I use my Dell Desktop pretty much as the familar old Desktop Mode and have the funny stuff if I want it
So I wanted to show her the important differences and how to get going like the Windows 7 she is used to

And off to the Price Chopper in late Morning, needed few Items like I always do
I traded in my latest $17 worth of Winners and scratched off another $10 Win
Not winning any nice Big Ones but doing fair the last week or so

And on to the Day, Pat called sometime after 1 p.m. said she would be on the way soon
And here she comes and carrying a big Red Sack of Goodies for ME!
Well I have been helping people with Computer problems for the last 29 years or so
And I do not ask for and never have been paid for my assistance, so this is a Christmas Present
And look at all those Goodies! ...Gourmet Coffee, Two Bottles of fine Wine, my favorite Nuts
A big bag of Brownie Brittle, and two Home Made, fancy wrapped Christmas Breads!

Then on to the Windows 8 Introduction, I didn't say right off that I had installed Windows 8
But I hadn't found any way to do a 'System Recovery' so that was the best way to solve the problem
I had the Laptop set up in front of one of my Desktops so we could refer to my Dell for reference too

~ Our Windows 8 Introduction ~

She sat down and turned it on, and she liked the new Lock Screen, a Photo in the Nature Sanctuary
Then the 'Sign In' Photo of her, and then a Photo of her 'Manor House' Photo the Desktop

And on to the Windows 8 familiarization, not so bad when there is someone to show you the new things
She liked most everything, even that Icon Filled 'Start Screen' that a lot of people do not
Well, there are some good things on that page, just takes a little playing to find them all

So a sucessful and fun time checking out Windows 8, then making some new Folders
And copying and moving her Photos into them, she has worked with Computers on the Job
But they don't get into that kind of thing much at work, it's all arranged for you there

So the lessons completed, we had a nice Chat and then she had to leave to feed her Pet Friends at home
And the Computer Problem solved, some ideas how to arrange her Photos, a nice Chat, a real fun time

Now Saturday Morning, what today? Darn! Another Doctor Appointment at 8 a.m.
And what's wrong now? I don't know.... That's why I am going to the Doctor... HAH!

~ That Snow Thursday Morning ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

An early start on Thursday, got right to the Laptop project, connected to my Network
And I cleaned out a few things but the main Internet problem persisted, I said it would take awhile
I was considering a System Recovery and start over but there was no Recovery Partition on the Drive
And I thought I had 'Recovery' on a Flash Drive but I did not... And no Recovery Disk either
So... Why not just upgrade to Windows 8.1 and catch up with the times? Works great on my Dell Desktop
And I have it on my Dell Laptop also, still have Windows 7 on my HP Desktop, waiting for Windows 10

I was sitting there playing with the Laptop and heard a Truck pull up outside
Took a peek out the Window, hey, where did all that Snow come from, and it was a crew to start shoveling
Well.. time to get it cleared off for my run to get Lottos and the Trip to the Doc later
It was at 30 Degrees and the Snow was soft and fluffy and not frozen to the Windshield
So it was just a quick brushing off with my Broom and away we went to the Price Chopper
Traded in my $20 of Winners for only a $6 Winner, oh well. there are more where those came from
So back to playing around with Computers until 1 p.m. Then time to head out again

~ Turnip Crop Thinned Out ~

Well then, I thinned out the new Turnip Greens Crop in the Sink, had way too many seeds in there
Now there should be room to spread out and grow some Turnip Greens if I am lucky
And about time to do something with that second Radish Experiment, not doing much more lately

And then about 1 p.m. I headed to KC Skin and Cancer Center. not all that long I was called in
Amd the PA was ready to remove the stitches... Oops. she said I had shaved most all off
I didn't think the Electric Shaver would do that, she only had one snippet to remove
Then the Doctor came in, says 'Looks good' and left then I took off for Home
So then I decided to harvest the Radishes and Leaves, they weren't gaining much lately
I got a small handful of Radishes and maybe a Serving of the Leaves for Greens
I ate the Radishes later with a Beef Sandwich and Rinsed and stored the Greens in the Freezer

~ Radishes and Radish Leaves for Greens ~

And then, I worked on Pat's Laptop awhile, got tired of that and finished out the Day with TV
Now this Friday Morning I got up early and finished getting the Laptop ready to go
Working fine and almost all the stuff back on that is needed at present... Off to a new day now

~ Lewis Jonas ~ Bob Fluchel ~ Pat Harris ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Well it was a nice three warm days or so and a chance to do some Outside BBQ Smokin'
So Tuesday Morning it was back down into the 30s and cloudy again, well it is December
I headed down to the Coffee House again, I wanted to tell Lewis how my 'Miracast' worked with my TV
But It was almost 9 a.m. when I got there and if he had been there earlier he ws gone then

So then I headed back up Hiway 9 to stop in at the 'Shear Palace' for my Semi-annual Haircut
Well maybe it is less than Semi-annual but sometimes it seems like that, gets kinda shaggy
Was first in the Door, they just had opened, I got my 'shearing' and headed to Kicks 66
Got my Lottos and headed home to scratch off nothing... Oh Woe... Well, not all bad news
I just got a new Mastercard in the Mail, so I won't starve in case I go broke on the Lottos

So then I went for more Tickets, winning a little, running back for more, winning a little more
Finally Quit after winning a $15 and $2 Lotto, enough milage for one Day

On into another routine afternoon, News Catchup, my afternoon Manhattan, more TV
Then baked up a Frozen Pizza, then into the Evening to finish up the Day with Movies

And this Morning, Wednesday, another try to see if Lewis was at the Coffee House
And he was alone at his usual spot, I sat down to tell him my success with the Belkin 'Miracast"
And then Bob Fluchel joined the Party, we had an impromptu 'Nature Sanctuary Meeting'
And then Pat Harris came in to have a Pastry and Coffee and brighten up the Conversation
We kept on until 10:30 or so and then headed out for wherever to enjoy that Cold Weather... brrrr

Monday Morning and a new Page for the rest of December and the rest of the Year, this one went fast
And so far the warm Weather is holding on for a short time but the BBQ Day is Over
And the plan for the day after getting back from the Coffee House is to Carve and Store the Brisket

Headed downtown about 8 a.m. Lewis Jonas and Dean Jernigan were at the usual Table
Last Friday I gave Lewis my Belkin 'MiraCast' Blue Tooth TV Adapter to try
I called him Sunday to check, he said he could not get it to work, so I said bring it down Monday
The Blue Tooth from his Computer is probably OK but he has an earlier TV that probably is not capable
Anyway, it works (sort of) for me from my Laptop and I want to try it with my Phone this time

So I took a peek at my latest Indoor Crop and saw a lot of little Shoots emerging after three days
Hard to see in this Photo but a lot of them are popping up, I planted thickly and I'll have to thin these a lot

~ 'Seven Top' Turnip Plants Emerging ~ Planted Friday December 12 ~

~ Close Up ~ Will Have to Thin These ~

And on to the Day... I had that Smoked Brisket to Slice and Store, that will last awhile for sure
Got out my Electric Slicer and sliced away, then some slices in the Fridge, the rest in the Freezer

~ Hey Hey! How Many Sandwiches do We Have Here? ~

And then time to check out that 'Miracast' with my Cell Phone on my TV
So I hooked it up with the skimpy Instructions that came with it, turned it on and it woudn't connect
Well it worked with my Laptop so wassamatta? It gave a Web Link in case you had problems
So I checked that out, lots more detailed Instructions there and for an Android Phone
Aha! Says turn on 'Screen Mirroring' on the Phone settings, I did that and it worked!
And it played my Vidoes without starting and stopping like on my Laptop but not quite as 'Sharp'
So it works, now and another gadget to Play with, can see everything I see on my Phone on my TV now

Then on to the TV and what's for Dinner, I tried out a Smoked Brisket Sandwich with BBQ Beans
And that worked... Lots more BBQ from that hunk of Cow to enjoy until after Christmas!

~ A Warm and Smokin' Day! ~
~ Smoked Beef Brisket ~ Yeah! ~
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Off into a dark, dreary looking Sunday Morning at 7:30 a.m. but nice and Warm at 56 Degrees
And they are still saying we will get to at least 61 this Afternoon, that's Smokin' Weather for sure
So I headed first to the Fast Stop for my Lottos, won two 'Show Me Cash' EZ Matches there the last two days
But no Scratchers for those two days so I tried again, this time two Winners, two $6 Tickets
Almost got all my Money back, well I'll trade them at the Price Chopper, need some Apple Juice too

And back home to fire up the Smoker, whoops, won't light, full Tank, what gives?
Well, try swappig the Regulator/Valve from the little Gas Grill to the Smoker
Try again, AHA! Lit right up, on with some Hickory and got the Smoke started

Then put the Brisket on at 8:30 a.m. And then 6 or 7 hours to go
After a cuppa Coffee and working my Scratchers I headed back up the Hill to the Price Chopper
Got my Apple Juice and traded for three more Scratchers, back then to try for that elusive Big One

And then I scratched off Two more $6 Tickets, $1 profit on that trip

~ Checking that Beef Brisket in the Smoker after Three Hours ~

Kept adding a chunk of Hickory Wood every now and then to keep the Smoke going
Then at about 3 p.m. enough Smoking, time to finish in the Oven, wrapped in Foil
Another two hours at 220 Degrees, that should do it, then out of the Oven, unwrap and let cool

~ Out of the Oven and Ready to Slice ~

I had made a nice big Pot of Potato Soup to serve as a late Lunch, then no room for any Dinner
So a nice Manhattan Cocktail and a couple more Episodes of Breaking Bad
Then to finish out the day I sliced off a small sample of that freshly Smoked Beef Brisket for a Taste
Yeah! And I do believe this one did pass the Taste Test quite well, lots of Smoky and Spicy flavor
And today, Monday, I'll slice it all up nicely and have some for Lunch or Dinner
And then a lot to store away in Fridge and Freezer for many more BBQ samples of my latest Smoked Brisket!
