And then... Wanted a look up the Hill, unplugged my Zapper in case I might accidently touch it
Checked everything out, looking good, just might get some Swiss Chard after all
Those Pumpkins? May be a little late in the Season for them to mature...
But the Tomatoes are looking good! and some more Peppers getting ready to Harvest
Then I thought it was about time to try to get a Video of my Plantings and all
And that View from my Garden Bench up on the Hill too, so I started out next Door
This Video will have to go by Stages to get the Best Lighting for each area so it might take a few Days
Then I can Edit the Video and get everything in the order I want, the final cut starting in front
Wednesday Morning I started in with the Plants I planted at the Next Buiding for Boss Bob
Then I set up the Tripod at the bottom of the Hill to get a Panoramic View of the Back Area
Next up the Hill to get some Video of the Garden Beds, front and back, that was all for the first try
Well, I didn't stop there, I went back out and got more Video on each trip, even with the uneven lighting
And I actually got it finished, Edited and Uploaded, made a DVD and this Morning posted on Facebook
Well, it could have come out better but pretty much shows everything to date this Season so far
Anyway, another late start, I have been going to bed later and getting up later recently
I finally got going and headed to the Price Chopper, needed a couple items and got my Lottos there
No winners to write Home about or even mention for that matter, not doing so hot this month... yet
So then I just puttered around until the UPS man showed up about Noon or so, time to hit the Hill
No assembly needed on this Item for a change just a little black Box with a Cord to plug in
So I unpacked it, loaded up my Tools and Wire and headed up the Hill, an easy job after my Prep work
I hung the Charger on the end of the Tomato Bed with Wire, then hooked up the Ground Wire
Then ran a length of Wire from the Hot Terminal to the Fence Wiring I had fastened to the Bed Ends
Finally ran the Power Cord from my Kitchen Window up the Hill to the Charger and plugged it in
On through a pleasant Afternoon then, just wonderful Weather we have been having this Summer
Then, I wanted to see if I could get a Wireless Connection to my Laptop up on the Hill
So I mixed my afternoon Manhattan and trotted up the Hill with my Laptop, fired it up
And I got a great Signal up there, got on the Internet, played around, talked to Sigi on Messenger
Tried my Web Cam for Sigi but he was on his Phone (I think) and couldn't see it
I wanted to show him the View from up there on that beautiful afternoon, I'll have to get some Video sometime
And then back down the Hill and inside for my TV Session, catch up on the News
The Mowers are due every Tuesday and my Electric Cord was in the way, So I watched for them
I thought I heard them coming so I headed up the Hill to unplug and pull my Cord out of the way
Then when they left I went back to plug it in again, stretch the Cord from the Garden Bed to my back Window
But then forgot to plug it in back in inside so all my Varmint Protection effort was wasted for the night
So, plugged it in early this Morning when I made my Coffee, hope for the Best after all that effort back there
And now, Half Way through the Working Week as they used to day, on to better things!
I checked the Beds, everything looking good, noticed a Cucumber Blooming, one of the recovering Plants
And then I picked the four Tomatoes I have been watching the last few days, that makes about ten so far
And headed back in, around the far side of the building, wanted to check my Beefy Boy Tonato Plant
And the biggest Tomato had turned a nice bright Red, I picked it, then tossed it out back
This is the third one that developed blossom end Rot, like some Tomatoes do
So far this Plant is not living up to what I read, no good Tomatoes yet, a few more Green ones on there
I lost three to the Wind blowing the Pot over, a couple to Squirrels and then more from end Rot
Oh well, 'What's for Dinner?'... I have Swai in the Freezer, how about some Fish and Chips again
I set out a Filet of Swai to thaw and my Fry Daddy out of the Fridge to warm up the oil
Then mixed my Manhattan and started on this BLOG... Oiling up the 'Press' as it were?
And later, Fish and Chips and Cole Slaw and off to bed after watching an old Alfred Hitchcock program
And now today, first thing, an email saying my Fence Charger will be here today
So if and when, that is the project for the Day
I really haven't had much of a problem with them until this year, nothing bothered the Pumpkins last year
One year something ate my new Tomato Plants in the Side Bed before I added the Cage
But nothing had bothered the Cucumbers there until I moved that Bed up the Hill for this Year
I had the Pumpkins cooped up in the new Bed I built last year but they Escaped and did grow four Pumpkins
This year I thought it might be better to try to grow something on the Hill back of the beds
Ok done with the Outside work, I thought, thinking of 'What's for Dinner'... Some of that Grilled Chicken?
So I set out a Thigh to thaw, what tio go with that? OK, Make some fresh Cole Slaw
I did that and now what? Oh, some crispy Fried Eggplant should go good and one was ready to pick
So back up the Hill to pick the largest one, not so large but enough for Dinner for one
While I was there I noticed some Pepper Plants falling over and with Peppers on them
So I took the Eggplant and a couple small Peppers inside and picked up the Twine
Back out to tie up four Pepper Plants, that should help some...
Next... Peeled and sliced and Breaded the Eggplant, in the Fridge to 'set up'
And I sliced up the Smaller Green Pepper and added that to my Cole Slaw.. All set for Dinner then
And so...Oven Fried the Eggplant, Hotted up the Chicken, Dished up the Cole Slaw
And, finished up the Weekend with that modest Feast.. Now on to the New Week
And then what? No plans at all, nothing needed doing outside, just a little Wiring today
So, time for another Foolish Experiment with a full pack of Lottos
How come I can win some $100 tickets at random now and then but NEVER won more than a $40 or $50 Ticket in a pack?
Shows you how rare those big ones are to find, but I keep looking, so, I got a full pack at Price Chopper
And this one was a fast one to work and I got that done in an hour or so, only won $165 this time
Then what? Well I had that Fresh Pineapple in the Fridge and forgot to nibble on it
So why not make a Pie, that sounded good so back to the Price Chopper for Pie Crust
Then defrost the Crust, puree the Pineapple in the Food Processor, mix up the Filling
Fill the Crust and into the Oven for an Hour or so, and Wah Lah... Pineapple Pie!
And then, something else to Cook? I had about half a Slab of Smoked Ribs in the Freezer
Let's make some BBQ Beans, I had picked up three Cans of 'Grillin Beans' at the Price Chopper
I open the Beans and poured the Liquid into a Pot, then chopped up some Onions and Jalapenos
Added that and a minced Clove of Garlic and let that simmer, then cut the Meat from the Ribs
Diced that up and added to the Pot, then the Beans and let that simmer a bit
Now I have that big pot of BBQ Beans that will take forever to use up, but did have some for Dinner
Well, this Morning, I'll head up the Hill to add two more pieces of Wire
I want to connect the End Panels in the Cucumber and Tomato Beds
And then get the Ground Stake and Wire ready to drive in when the Charger gets here
Now... Off to a new Sunday to see what we shall see...
Didn't do much outside on Friday, just up on the Hill a few minutes to drive a couple Stakes
And then check on the Garden, only a couple months left now for that, shut down in October usually
And Saturday (already?) Back up the Hill at 8 a.m. to Wire Up the Pumpkin Patch, already had the Stakes in
That went pretty fast, just ran out of wire as I finished, but need a little more
I want to run a wire from one end of the Bad Netting to the other, Electrify the Beds too
I'll stop in at P&G Hardware for that on the way to pick up today's Lottos
And then, all finished except for driving in the Ground Stake and wiring up the Charger when it comes
And one more look at the Cucumber Bed, still looking better this Mornng, Swiss Chard too
I was about ready to give up after the last Varmint Raid but I might succeed yet
So.. off to the Day, what other Adventures await?
Then to test out my new Saw, I cut the 6 Foot Rods into 2 foot Pieces for the Fence Stakes
And still Cool so I thought I would set the Stakes and string some Wire
Headed up the Hill all ready, drove in a couple Stakes, tried the Hill but it was too Muddy
So I ran some Wire between the Cucumber and Tomato Beds and that was it for that try
Still hazy Sunny and Cool but that Humidity was way too much, I was dripping wet
I put that Project off until that hill dried out a little and start early in the Morning
And then, that was pretty well it for the day, not much going on except clean the Grill
More Afternoon routine, a little Dinner and off to another quiet night
And so, Friday Morning, back up the Hill again, not quite as muddy but no way dry
I drove in a few More Stakes, will run the Wire when the Hill gets Dry
But took a photo for the Cucumber Bed again, now doing great all over
The Damaged plants recovering nicely, and then new ones on the way, might get a Cucumber yet
So now, off to the Day, where to get the Lottos this morning... Hmmm... Price Chopper maybe?
I am GONE >>>>
Then I was thinking, more netting or try an ELectric Fence? Looked online for one
And I found a nice Weatherproof looking one and ordered that
I am Spending a lot of money just to raise a couple Pumpkins but it is the Idea of the thing
Can get all the Pumpkin I need in a Can at the Price Chopper for a couple Dollars
Or buy a nice big fresh one for the same, or get a free one from the Nature Sanctuary
But it is the Fun Idea of growing my own.. and defeating the Varmints doing so
Anyway, I headed out to Walmart for a few things, new Sheets and Pillow and Pillowcase
And I found some 6 foot Plastic Coated Steel Rods to use in making my Electric Fence
I have some Wire that will work, and can get more at P&G Hardware if I need it
So while waiting for the Charger I can saw the Rods to length and wire up the Fence
And on back home, stopped by KIcks 66 for my Lottos, then my Price Chopper
I saw they had whole Chckens on sale for 99 Cents a pound so I got a nice one
I just Grilled eight Chicken Thighs a couple Days ago and have seven in the Freezer
But I couldn't pass up Chicken at that price and I can freeze that too
So then I made up my Bed with the New Sheets, Pillow and Pillow Case, nice and bright
I was wondering though, if I could get to sleep with those loud Colors. well, I did have a good night
And then that Chicken... Finally got that on the Grill kind of late in the Afternoon
I Rinsed and Trimmed and split that Chicken in Half, then Sprinkled with Garlic Salt and Black Pepper
Then fired the Grill, plopped on the Chicken and off to the TV until the first Flip
I saw on the local News that we were do for some heavy rain pretty soon
And at the time for the first Chicken flipover it was raining lightly, the Porch still dry
But when I went out for the second flip it was really pouring down even under the Deck
And I got drenched pretty good, headed back in to duy off and change my Shirt
For the third flip it was still coming down good and I put on my Garden Hat and Raincoat
That time I stayed nice and dry and by the last flip time the Rain had tapered off
So in with the Grilled Chicken, let it cool a bit, then cut into servng pieces
Finished out another pretty good day with TV Movies and nibbling on chicken
And a real nice heavy rain for the Garden, that should wake things up on the Hill
And then a look at the Cucumber Bed, now more new Leaves on the damaged Plants
And the new Seeds I planted are popping up some, a little late in the Season for them though
Also, a few of the Swiss Chard Plants survived and are making a struggle to grow
And that was about it for Tuesday, just some running around Treasure Hunting and finding no Treasure
And today, no plans except some more Pumpkin Netting and a run to Walmart for some new Bed Sheets
Finally wearing out the ones I bought maybe 10 years ago, besides a new color would be nice
And... Wednesday? Halfway through the Working Week... But I sure do not Work! 27 and 1/2 Years of Retirement now
Somehow the talk got around to Computers, then IBM and then to the Mayor's IBM Selectric Typewriter
And he headed out the door to get it, he lives just at the top of Main Street there
And he lugged that heavy thing all the way back, I tried to lift it, Ooooooh I don't remember it being that heavy!
But then that was 27 years ago when I worked on them and I was only a child of 55 years
So I looked it over, typed a little, saw the Carrier Return was not returning all the way
He said yes, that just started happening... So? I popped the Cover off, saw the problem and fixed it
No tools and no Parts, I guess I still haven't lost that Golden Touch that got me to Retirement in 1987
But I did take thousands of Service Calls on that Machine from 1961 to 1987!
And then on to more Chat, Parkville Alderman Jim Werner had joined the Party, and it WAS a party
Then the Celebrities left and I stayed to chat with Lewis until past 11 a.m. so much to talk about the 'Good Old Days'
I headed then to the Fast Stop for my Lottos, only a solitary $5 win.. Oh well, still $120 of Sunday wins in my pocket
And then stopped back by the Office on the way to Pay my rent and chat with Boss Bob some
Was complaining that the nice girls next door were leaving... But he said he had already rented it to a nice Lady
So looks like I lucked out again, nice middle aged Lady with a nice Car, sure to be quiet and friendly
And then off to a really BIZZY afternoon, not a lot going on but I did keep busy til Dinner time
First off after getting back home, thought I would like some grilled Chicken again
So I headed back to the Price Chopper, picked up a nice pack of 8 Chicken Thighs
Back at the Ranchito... Rinsed and trimmed the Thighs, Seasoned them and fired up the Grill
On the Grill at 3 p.m. and off the Grill at about 4 p.m. lookin'good!
Set them aside to cool bit, made some COle Skaw and BBQ Beans and then the Feast!
Pretty good stuff there, Maynard! I devoured one nice Chicken Thigh and stored the rest
And so my Freezer is even more stuffed than it was, enough for a couple month's meals in there
And while my Chicken was grilling I trotted up the Hill for another look
Oh NO! My biggest and 'nibbled' Number Three Pumpkin was GONE... Totally! Also that nibbles Numbet One
And the Number Two nibbles one had been knocked off the Vine buy was stil there, not as tasty I guess
And one more thing? Pineapples on sale again at the Price Chopper and I picked out a nice Gold One
So again, while my Chicken was cooking I topped, peeled, sliced and diced that beauty
Then as above... planted it out front in a Pot, the earlier one I planted seems to be doing OK
And so, I hadn't planned it but that Monday turned out to be a really BIZZY Day! Oh yeah
And no plans for Tuesday... But I am sure I can find something to do Maybe an Electric Fence for my Pumpkin Patch? CHARGE!!!
Well run around Winning Lottos, went to Kicks First, then to Price Chopper for one that Kick's didn't have
Won a couple little ones, went back to the Price Chopper for more
I won an $8, $10 and $20 and $3 there and went back to kicks to trade for more
And won a $100 and a $3 from Kicks... Back to cash those in at the Price Chopper
Put the $100 in my Pocket, bought another $3 Ticket and won another $10... Time to quit for the Day
Well the Sun came out nice and bright at Noon but it was still nice and cool
Time to head up the Hill to check the Crops after the Rain, looking good, more leaves now on the Cucumbers
And a peek at the Pumpkins... DAMMIT! Some Varmint took a nibble out of the Best One yet!
Don't know what's doing that, nibbles off the new Leaves and takes a bite out of the Pumpkins
Well, I can't build a Cage big enough for that Pumpkin Patch, just bum another Pumpkin off the Sanctuary for Pies
But then a Ray of Sunshine, Three nice Better Boys Tomatoes nice enough to pick
And a lot more are on those Vines to turn Red and Delicious!
And that was about it for Sunday, pretty nice Day overall, so many Good Days lately
On into a quiet cool and sunny afternoon... The Usual Afternoon, Cocktail and TV
Then in the mood for some more of that Potato, Celery, Onions Soup for a light dinner
A couple more Netflix Videos and then time for a snooze
So, the Beefy Boys Tomato Plant is just at 7 feet tall, only about a foot of Stake to climb now
And about 5 or 6 Tomatoes on it, lost 7 so far, I am sort of diappointed with that Sample of Beefy Boys
So then out back and up the Hill again, a couple small Eggplants there, one Plant doesn't look so good
The Jalapenos have a few small ones on and a couple Pepper Plants have a Pepper or two
The Cucumber Bed isn't doing much, the damaged Plants have just a few leaves, the new Seeds didn't come up
But the Better Boys Tomatoes look GOOD! Several now turning Color, might get a good crop soon
Then to check the Pumpkins, Pumpkin One gave up and now Number Two looks like it's going away too
And I squashed Number Four so that only leaves Number Three and it looks Great! Grew another 1/2 Inch<
So that's the Garden Report for Saturday Morning, I need to get back up there and Water again
And that was what I wrote on Saturday, now Sunday Morning and all wet out there
I was wondering what kind of exciting Life I lead when the biggest things of the day
Are a Photo of a dying Pumpkin, a short Bike Ride and baking a loaf of Bread? WOW!
Anyway I did head down to the Park about Noon, hadn't been the Bike since I got my new Seat
I wanted to adjust that, get the bolts tightened and maybe get in s short ride
But first I had to get the chain back on and adjusted, that came off loading or unloading
And I did get in a very short ride, was 86 degrees, nice and warm, new Seat very nice
About the only thing the rest of te day was to bake another Loaf of Bread and grill a Poke Chop for dinner
Now Sunday Morning, I had planned to trot back up the Hill to water everything back there
I did water everything out front Saturday afternoon with my Sprinkler Can
But then at 7 a.m. this Morning some Thunder Rumbles and a nice steady light rain
Looks like that cancels out the Hose watering upon the Hill today, seems rain works better anyway
And nothing else planned for the day, just see what happens... Oh what an EXCITING EXISTENCE I lead!
So I went to the Price Chopper... Didn't have a Pack of the one I wanted, tried Kicks 66
No go there either, tried Gomer's Liquors next Door, no way, they don't sell many Lottos anyway
Last hope was the Fast Stop and they had one, HAH! Headed back home for some Scratching
Went in, what's that smell? Something baking? OHHHH... Forgot that Pie Crust!
So I pulled that out of the Oven, crispy black Pie Crust... more than a trifle overdone
I tossed that one, put another Crust in the Oven and went on to my Scratching
This time I heard the Beep Beep, took out the Crust to cool and later filled it with Lemon Pudding
Then on to my Lottos, I had a Pack of my Favorite Crossword Doubler, I had great luck on that one
I had won several $100 Tickets on that, was hoping for a Big One in this new Pack
But I worked and worked, several hours on that, finally ended up with the biggest Win of only $50
Of all the Packs I have tried I never won a bigger one than a $50, but some Pack has to have a Big One
And on to the Evening, it was a long scratching afternoon, dug out some Smoked Ribs for dinner
Fresh Cole Slaw and Oven French Fries to go with that, finished off with that Lemon Pie... Good!
So... Off to the Weekend, what's to do? I'll find something, take a look out back at least
And, get some more Lottos, at least I have $170 of Winners to trade for more this Month...
But first thing again... Up the Hill in back to Check on the Pumpkins progress again...
Number One looks like it isn't going to make it after that Varmint took a Bite out of it
And Pumpkin Number two might not survive it's Nibble either... But Pumpkin Number Three looks Great!
And of course some Dummy stepped on Number Four and Squashed it, so for the Moment it is up to Number Three for Pies
On to the Video... I had set my U-Verse DVR to record several Thursday evenimg News Programs
Then played them back on the Receiver attached to my Computer WinTV Tuner and recorded them on that
Next copied the Video Recordings to my Video Editor to Edit, Render and Upload to Vimeo
Kind of a roundabout way to get a copy of the News that I could embed on my BLOG pages
And I ended up with a more concise report of all the news on our local TV about all the Hoopla
On into a long afternoon waiting to hear from my Mechanic Friend, Looking for 5 p.m.
And waiting, waiting, waiting, and fnally a phone call at 6 p.m. 'Be over in a little while'
Finally at 6:30 my Blazer came rolling down the Hill, then we talked business... 'How Much?'
Well he says, you will be wanting to sell something some Day... and wanted no Payment!
So then I drove him home, stopped on the way back at the Price Chopper, got my Goodies
And headed back home and lived happily ever after!
And then... what's for dinner... Well sometimes just some Potato Soup was great!
So Chopped up some Celery, Onions and Potates, simmered in Butter, added the Milk and WAH LAH!
Ohhh yeah, sometimes that just hits the Spot... and that it did... Off to Dreamland
Now today... Pay Day! All Monthly Bills paid... Still have the $100 in my Pocket for selling the Computer
And the $150 I was going to pay my Friend for my Brakes Fix... How Sweet it Is!
And now off to the Casino? Nope, sort of gave that up, but I'll go get a few Scratchers!
Then a knock on the Door, Tom the Maintemance Man, came to load up the old super Computer
I sold it to him for a giveaway Price, but I wasn't using it and too good a Box to just sit Idle
Then he noticed my Blazer missing and offered me a ride anywhere I wanted, nope, just for Lottos
And then, I wanted to water the Back Beds again, trying to get some Seeds to sprout
And also Try to rejuvenate the Cucumber and Swiss Chard Bed, does not look promising
So I was busy doing that and noticed a Helicopter flying back and forth above my Place
And also circling what looked like the whole of Parkville, so what's that about anyway?
I got a Photo of it on it's last pass Southeast over the Gully
And then by chance here comes an Email from Bob Fluchel, Nature Sanctuary Director
He sent a Link to KMBC Live Breaking News and I checked it out
Well it was a Video of President Obama visiting Downtown Parkville, Hey! No one invited me
He had visited Kansas City on Tuesday, ate at a local BBQ Joint, made a Speech later
Then spent the Night and was apparently headed North to KCI International and made a stop in Parkville
And he stopped in at Parkville Coffee House, walked around Downtown and up Hiway 9
Stopped to talk to people all over Downtown Parkville as the Cameras followed him
Too bad I wasn't there to get some decent Video and Photos, most of the ones online were not so good
So I was stuck at home all day without my Wheels, so this is like having no Car?
How can anyone (except Sigi Wulle) live like that?, no Bus service around here
Well there is that OATS Service but you have to call and wait forever and I don't like that
I did without my Scratchers for the first day since forever that I can remember, well $20 ahead on that anyway
So I waited through that long afternoon for Bob, my Mechanic friend to get off work
I expected a call about 5:30 p.m. or so but no, and I waited and watched TV until about 9 p.m
I called and asked what's the deal? He had just finally finished but said he would bring the Blazer back today
But that means I have no Vehicle until after 5 p.m. Wonder if I can walk to the Price Chopper and back?
I used to walk downtown every day for the Mail, a mile each way, but that was 15 years ago
Anyway, I'll survive another day... And find some Obama visit Video to post tomorrow
I don't want to show him so much, just the scenes in Parkville
